Thats is in Tucson, Arizona because I lived there most of my life and A-10 fighter jets fly in the morning for flight training.

Back in the 80's I used to hang out on the Elk River (Chesapeake Bay) and these jocks would drive their A10's down the river so low that you could see them smile and wave as they went by on their way to do training runs at Aberdeen proving grounds. We would be sitting on the boat with our girls in bikini's drinking beer and then BAM a flight of two A10s would come low and slow right by us. Had to be no higher than 100 feet. They would give us a wing wag and slide on down the river.

Wow, almost 1.3 million watches...I shot that video standing at the end of the runway at Bagram AB in (March I think) 2006. Gave it to one A-10 maintainer and it found its way all over. Glad people enjoyed it. Maybe someday I'll post the lengthened version:-)

As a kid, i used to live under the flight path of A10’s

Twice a week two of them would gracefully fly over at altitude unarmed, in a staggered formation, i swear it must have taken them about 5 minutes to pass over. wow I'll never forget that sound or sight. :)

ok, so i was FAC for my company and have directed a lot of airstrikes, with many coalition airforces. i've always given correct grids, i've painted the target correctly. and yet american pilots have still missed by a whole fucking grid square. it never happened with the RAF, the french, the aussies, and the canadians.... am i missing something here?????

@lifeallfun Flew light aircraft then joined Air Force, inspired by Grandpa who flew Spitfires in WW2. I was at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ, and Martin AFB in MD then 2 tours Afghanistan. No longer in the military, now flying 'civilized' aircraft with nice looking hostesses to bring meals, and can use the rest room in flight! Still miss the Hog, as does every pilot who ever flew it. @smudger746 With Close air support it’s always better to have a spotter on the ground, a Joint Tactical Air Controller (JTAC), who can direct you to the target with precision. We often (but not always) used special forces to direct air strikes. Also surveillance aircraft / drones could relay ground targets to us. Their sensors went through cloud, dust etc. The A10's imaging systems could identify targets without JTAC guidance - but there’s no substitute for those guys.

@smudger746 Go on all you like. No A10 pilot flies alone. He’s got dozens of personnel helping the mission. JTAC, Weapons Handlers, Jammers, AWACs etc. In a non perfect world things can and do go wrong. Precision strikes in urban areas was tricky and there was the risk of collateral damage (friendly fire). Sorry if you lost buddies. I did too. The thought that we may have killed innocents always hung heavy. But that's war! Unless you've flown CAS (which I doubt) you have NO idea.

@smudger746 I don't know the circumstances of the desert storm incident as I wasn't n the Air Force then, Re: the incident in 2003 I was told something about the target being incorrectly lit . if you were ground forces / special forces you would know the inherent difficulties there. Put yourself in the pilot's seat just for a minute. A target is tasked, the coordinates are given and you are given a 'go'. And you get fired upon inbound. What do you do? You obey your orders!

one time Ft. Indiantown gap on weekend warrior stuff as radioman i had a couple of these looking for me as practice. i watched them on a ridge top miles across a valley then they disappeared. I was standing on a ridge top looking down a half mile of pipe line to the valley when one of these guys came down the valley cutting the tops of trees off, turned into the pipe line and came up the mountain 6 feet off the ground at 300mph.
