  • CNN’s Fareed Zakaria defends Obama. Says: "Liberals Need to Grow Up’ & Stop Criticizing Him" 8/15/11 Independent journalism? I don't think so.

  • Although he is still re-hashing these same exact points verbatim 3 years later, they are still relevant, vital to understand and excellently composed. A RARE and VALUABLE asset to American media.

  • Problem is, if you DON'T want to participate in this economy, you're virtually homeless (bit of an exaggeration)

  • ummmm he's not anti-caucasian.. you have to read his book. he loves america , and wrote his book "the post-american world" as a wake up call for the american people. Yes, he is critical of how the american people's mindset, but he does have a point.. americans believe that we are born with an inheritance for global domination and take it for granted, and constantly assume that our place in this world is at the pinnacle of global politics. It is not the fall of america, but the rise of the rest

  • What a turd this guy is. I didn't watch the vid but did read his anti-Caucasian CNN blog a few minutes ago. If it were up to me, this foreign-born racist ingrate would be tarred and feathered and then booted unceremoniously out of the country! He can take the "whitey's holding you down" cancer he spreads back with him to the toilet he was born in. Honesty, just kick the scumbag's ass out of here!!

Btw, same for ted koppel; he started this culture of hate-on-whitey, he can go back to England NOW

  • chilling

  • Fareed Zakaria is from India....Indian Muslims are 'moderates' compared to Arabs or Iranians or even the neighbouring Pakistan.

  • @Dolphinatplay Generalizing isn't always wise.

  • 911 ✡ ✈ ▌▌

  • @Invesigator lol

  • dit is de slechtste filmpje ooit zoek leve zakaria

  • Fareed Zakaria is NEOCONS

  • He may be a liberal muslim but he's anti-Pakistani because he's indian. He's too biased when it comes to covering the war on terror in afghanistan/pakistan.

  • @noorkhanuk85

here are some reasons why indians are suspicious of pakistan:

    - the peace process in 2000 was derailed because pervez musharraf decided to go against his prime minister and attack india which started the kargil war.

    - the 2009 mumbai terror attacks - a mentally unstable man was trained by terror camps based in pakistan to infiltrate mumbai and wreak havoc. - at this very moment there are still terror camps in pakistan brainwashing children with anti- indian propaganda.

  • How come Zakaria is not concerned with anything but Mexico and Spain and south american perspectives?

  • Fareed does not know shit about the world, he lives in the CNN world behind a desk reading internet all day.

  • @kammman99

How many countries have you been to?

  • correction: that late historian and sociologist(perhaps democratic socialist too) i forgot to list due to my insomnia is/was Jane Jacobs. my apologies for f ing up. and yeah maybe it was a freudian slip on my part to write socialist. but what good is the public sector if it is not a check and balance against the private sector. a truly beneficent public sector must be socialist by definition.

  • FAREED ZAKARIA: CNN GPS :: NEWSWEEK EDITOR

Why you fear mongering Trilateral inplaced douchebag. Thats quite a coverstory you did on Newsweek. Nuclear detonation. Since when did news become yellow journalism? Since you were inplaced, out of thin air nobody, into frontseat of Newsweek. Check on his own website, he proudly boasts membership on the Trilateral commission. Check on the Trilateral commissions own website, there is Fareed Z. on the member list. Newsweek or National ENQ?

  • he's brilliant! very smart and educated and speaks so much sense

  • Fareed Zakaria!!!

  • Guy is brilliant. We need more Muslim liberals like him.

  • There are many Muslim liberals - they're just not being represented on Western media.

  • yeah, blame the west, what about the middle eastern networks

  • @kurt9876543210

The West is to blame for a lot of things actually.

  • Just a few days ago, this man attended the super-secret Bilderberg conference of 2009. Research the Bilderberg group and their agenda for humanity if you care at all about the future of humanity. Bilderberg is an outside-of-government cabal of elites that undermines the sovereignty of all free nations.

  • setting a global agends is very important for the common growth of all with justice and equality which would give a stabilising effect of others doing well. Those who have started producing and selling want the expansion and opening of trade and markets, which gives a huge win-win situation for all.

  • Yes. Democrats are nuts on trade and Republicans are nuts on Immigration. FREE TRADE AND OPEN BORDERS!

  • I'm with you :D

  • you can't have a welfare state and open borders. See Milton Freedman.

  • Fareed is promoting the "Global Agenda." This means he supports the world banks, supports nation building and Imperialism, but, hey, its all for a good cause. If we didn't have to fight wars and sink countries and individuals into debt, and take away personal liberties (RFID), I would fully support Globalization and a "Global Agenda."

  • Hey, you know, we preached global democracy and at the same time sold weapons to countries all over the world--basically sanctioning wars because we made billions and billions of dollars in profits from it( we brought down IRAQ's democracy in a coup and made it a dictatorship in 1953). Our hypocracy, while sleezy, is the price of our democracy( hey the defense industry as to eat too right?) and now that the world is growing and we are not so important..we can't cope. Yet WE started this!

  • Was it Iraq or Iran in 1953? I thought the CIA stage a coup against Mohammed Mossadeq and installed the Shah. And, when you say "we," you're simply referring to America and it's foreign policies? I didn't vote for Bush, Jr. (the first presidential election I was old enough to vote in), and, ethically, I don't support any of our imperialistic policies. Furthermore, the "who cares how it was started, let's finish it" argument implies the ends justify the means, correct? Were you agreeing with me

  • Although Zakaria initially supported using military force against Iraq, he argued for a United Nations sanctioned operation with a much larger force approximately 400,000 troops. He also called for a Bosnia or Kosovo style occupation that was international in composition

  • The U.S has a shit load of oil that it hasn't even touched in Alaska. They are drilling off shores so that other countries will eventually run out and will have to buy oil from the U.S. If the U.S stops getting oil from other nations and uses its own, it can last over 60 years!

  • oil in Alaska? Read the data. 6-18 months. Then what?

  • I think you should change your screen name to redneck14

  • Now China is drilling off the coast of Florida (50 miles) with Cuba's assistance. Why the hell isn't the U.S. drilling off the coast of Florida?? Also in the Pacific. There is plenty of oil, we need to stop placating enviromentalists and start drilling for our own resources. Along with developing better fuel cells for hybrid cars, this will go a long way to solving our dependence on foreign oil. Also, corn ethanol is not working out so well. Our cars are less fuel efficient on ethanol.

  • China is not drilling off the coast of florida, that was a rumor.

  • That wasn't true.

  • Look up Lindsey Williams and the energy Non-Crisis.

  • Obama is now reading his book, maybe he'll wake up now, the jobs that left the U.S. are not going to come back. Also, if Obama thinks he can tax corporations and the uber wealthy, he's delusional, these people are global players and they can easily leave the U.S. for tax friendlier countries such as Ireland. The U.S. has the second highest tax on business in the world, yet Obama thinks raising their tax rates and capital gains is the answer. He's just wrong.

  • boring. why is this guy even considered worthy to have his views aired so often in the media? this guy has no new insight. btw, this is the guy that said it was a good idea to invade iraq. he said it was the only chance for democracy in the middle east. go back and read his writings from 2002. now he's done a 180.

  • Zakaria is now regurgitating tom friedman.

and the much younger but not smarter parag khanna

I say this NOT AS an ANTI FREE TRADER.

I support globalization, and its benefits for India China Brazil and for USA(and Fuck No for Dubai)

The point is anti zakaria to some extent, in the sense that all his work is nearly 10 years outdated, NEVER intellectualy stimulating and has never told me a fact i did not know about

  • he is so right...to continue to be a global player on the world stage, the US must recognize the growth of other nations and use that as an opportunity...

  • Zakaria is just fantastic

  • great guy, but i wish he had supported edward saids vision more incorporated post 911

and that zaxaria had been stronger for the liberal position

    of orientalism

  • The liberal view on the world economy really cracks me up; They bitch and complain about the poor child working at a factory that makes 3 bucks a day and how we need to improve their life, yet they want to keep all jobs in America. You can't have it both ways! Zakaria is right-the more we resist becoming a player on the world economic stage, the worse off we will be. You can't produce everything and like an earlier post said, the world also consumes rather just produces-it's good for America!

  • Here is the problem with Mr. Zakaris world view. We elect our government officials to look after our "Americans" best interest, not the rest of the worlds. While I recognize the free trade is good for developing economies, I do not see it as good for "Americans" as long as labor costs are so disparative. Trade without consideration of this will result in an ever shrinking middle class and if we lose the middle class we cease to be America because they our the backbone of our economy.

  • The rest of the world doesn't care that our labor costs are disparate, they will produce and trade with each other and we'll be left out of the picture. Unfortunately, that is the reality of the 21st century. There is also a much longer (hour) version of this interview where he goes into much more detail about the world view of America.

  • Ok, I am not claiming to be an exp. on the subject, and my thoughts are as much intuitive as they are based in facts I know. But, Tell me how we could be "left out" as long as we continue to lead the world in INVENTION and INNOVATION!As long as American companies create the next NEW THING,would not these countries continue to buy our products just as they have for at least one century? Also, are we not the still the worlds largest supplier of FOOD? How could the rest of the world freeze us out?

  • Brazil is going to put an armbar on the world.

  • Zakaria's basic idea is that it's *not a zero-sum game* - I just hope Joe Sixpack gets that. The rise of the BRIC countries is not necessarily a bad thing - they are consumers, too, not just producers. And many of them like American technology, products and services. A LOT.

  • Parochial thinking in ALL countries must die! Open and fair trade markets will raise worlwide standards. Thank you for the enlightened perspective, Fareed.

  • As usual, it's easier said than done. =/

  • lol no one wants to live in a CHINESE world...that is what he said. And you know what THAT IS TRUE.

  • It can't be worse than living in Dubai.

  • idk dubai is pretty good on free trade and also doesn't have too many religious restrictions like some of the other middle-eastern countries...it's actually a pretty nice place to live

  • Well why is dubai great ?

dubai doesnt accept immigrants, it wants them and there descendents to be life long PISSexcrtectes.

  • dubai has horrible labor practices. you would not want to be a migrant worker in dubai, you are little more than an indentured servant there.

  • They certainly don't have any union representation at their construction sites.

  • Union jobs? A perfect reason to be inclusive. Unionization doesn't happen when oppressive, closed conditions prevail. Lift them up enough to unionize on their own, just like the US did.

  • I wouldn't mind to be honest. Chinese society may not be the most liberal but at least it's pragmatic which is more than can be said for the rest.

  • Zakari sets up a dichotomy between de-regulated "free" trade on the one hand and "trade wars" on the other; but these are not our only choices. There is such a thing as long-term state-to-state trade agreements, or "fair trade," which are a win-win not so much for global financial traders but for the standard of living and quality of life of average working people on both sides of the trade agreement.

  • So-called "fair trade" initiatives championed by Bono are a narcotic dream- think of an internationalized Great Society that operates without regard to freedom and tyranny. Read a little about Ricardo's economics and you'll see why tariffs and other state-based proscriptions actually REDUCE the net wealth of nations and their people.

  • Fareed Zakaria made very good points..!
