I've read Miss Amphlett's Autobiography, apparently she was banned from her hometown of Geelong as a late teen-early twenty something for being too rebellious! lol
Sydney Town Hall clock (must've been shot from on top of the Woolworths Metro building), the Sharpie's Golf House sign (long since removed), the red neon arrows of the Hoyts cinema (demolished/refurbished in the 90s), Martin Place railway station escalators. Just those few simple images are enough to evoke many memories of my childhood growing up there during that time.
... Darlinghurst 1984! The most Australian Band you can get - ACE! Best song in the world... Sydney when it was still cool! Divinyls will always be the coolest, timeless classic eighties gig scene in the world. With love and thanks. Grace!
At the very end (at 3:14) the festivities party seems to be Mentals As Anything people. See Nzoz's Mentals "Brain".
Besides, this song and this video has a special meaning for me. I came across it only early this year, shortly after my dad had passed away, so this song will always be dedicated to my dad when I listen to it and watch this special video.
I clicked on in memory of Knut the polar bear who died this morning. Now I see in Google street view they've taken away the Golf House neon sign despite, i believe, having a heritage listing. So now I'm double-sad. Sucks to be me :)
Love the band, Love the music, I also like that Mark has on a Confederate States of America uniform on. Did he pick it up on a tour of the southern states? Rebels for the Divinyls!
First time hearing this song. It is Awesome! Catchy. It seems that a lot of bands from the 80's had a "deep" theme like this. I think it is more "artistic" than something done with computer animation as with today. I love it.
NZOZ, thanks for all the AWESOME Aussie music you have loaded up on the Tube. Living in the States, I never get to hear any of this great stuff anymore, except for what I have on my iPod!! It's an awful shame a lot of Aussie music never made it over here, the Yanks really have been ripped off of listening to some truly great music, a true shame. Really appreciate your great taste in music too, thanks!!

I'm trying to analize the lyrics and I think it's about a girl who was sexually abused and I belive this girl is Chrissie. Was Chrissie abused when she was a child?
In her biography, she speaks about her father being an intense and aggressive person and says that many of her angry facial expressions that are seen in her video-clips and live photos, are of her impersonating her father.
Yeah, those were the days, pre ridiculous security, kids being checked with metal detectors & sniffer doggies! I remember seeing Iggy Pop at 13 at the Tivoli (scary!!) & the Divinyls at the Hordern "3 bands for 3 bucks" gigs at around the same age.
Love this song (& Divinyls). Don't know how many times I saw them live in Sydney back in the '80s. Chrissy was (& is) amazing. Such a powerful voice, so gorgeous & feisty. She & Mark lived in Manly when I lived there; they cruised around in a big black hearse. One time they walked into the bank in their full rock star regalia, & everyone in the place stopped in their tracks, spellbound. Talk about presence! Great to see all these old vids again. Amazing live music scene we had back then
ah i miss this band! i looked it up cause the silversun pickup singer (yah, i know it's a guy) sounds sorta like this and i was trying to show my kid how similar the singers sound.
You Australians sure have a lot of great bands that have come along throughout the years!!! Divinyls were and still are excellent!!! One of my favorite bands still after 27 years!!! I loved this song and Christina's distinctive vocal style as well as her sexy sinister looks! Mark's guitar was great on this and the bass hook is great. When "I touch myself" came out some of my friends were like I like this song and that is that band you always liked. I live in Jacksonville Florida, which has always been a big AC/DC fan town. I have been to Perth Australia and thought about moving to Perth. I'd rather say and fight all the problems the "red" states have than run. I hope to revisit Perth 1 day. DIXIE!
I do not know Chrissie Amphlette. I do know a girl whose home was broken into by one of the members of the Divinyls due to a desperate herion fix. That's as close to a personal Divinyls association that I can claim.
As long as my questions are annoying. Why do you waste time of your life answering them?
I am always asking questions because I don't know anything about her. Here in Argentina is UNKNOWN so The only way I have to know about her is by asking here.
Hey, I just remembered another Divinyls story. You might be a little young to hear this, but you have to exposed to this dirty seedy world some day, so here it goes.
My dad and his mate were watching the Divinyls live back in 1982. My dad's mate told my dad that at the end of the night he was going to score with Chrissie Amphlette. At the end of the gig, my dad's mate disappeared, so my dad proceeded to piss off to another pub, where he met an older female.
My dad left the pub and went back to the older female's unit and slept with her. The next morning, my dad's mate shows up and demands to know why my dad is sleeping with his mother!
He just came back from Chrissie's place.
My dad had no idea the older woman was his mate's mother... ouch!
Looking at childhood and teen pictures of her, I'd say her natural colour might have been a light brown, perhaps dark-blonde colour. I don't know if the auburn colour is her natural colour. However, she seems to have been displaying an auburn colour during the past 30 years, so maybe that is her natural colour.
Well... Rage is an Australian music program and probably one of the best in the world, as far as diversity of content is concerned.
Rage had a Divinyls special back in 1991 and I just so happened to have recorded that particularly show that night in 1991 and have kept the tape since. The video you are watching with the 'rage' logo was from that particular night. That's why most of my Divinyls uploads have the 'rage' logo.
R>I>P Aussie Rock - what a great and glorious beast it was in the early 80's. Now what do we have? Nothing captured the moment and the time like this band and the many others around at the time.
The Divinyls were the epitome of Sydney rock 'n' roll in the 1980's. Such a great Sydney band. I have fond memories of seeing them live in their prime at places like The Chevron in the Cross, the Tivoli, Cronulla Workers, Cbah Inn etc. This is one band that Melbourne can't freeload on.
Yes, but the band was quintessentially Sydney with it's brash, glamourous, rocky sound and the band itself was based in Sydney for much of it's life. Plus Chrissie had lots of family in Sydney.
Chrissy's choice of clothing in this clip is interesting. It's seems her choice of white and black, is to mirror the songs name " The Good Die Young."
I love the Divinyls but Mark has a Confederate States of America uniform on. I have the Australian rebel flag at home that I got from a trip to Australia, its blue with a white latin cross and 5 white stars.
She is gorgeous ! Such a true artist and an amazing female voice in Australian rock. She should be higher on the pedistal of women in rock. Divinyl's are truly one of the best rock bands to come out of Australia. She puts a lot of female rock artists to shame in todays music. You rock Chrissy !
It's interesting seeing the large clock in the background display time. It appears 1st at 7.23 pm then 11.50pm.The 3rd and last time is at 11.59 pm. Suggesting " the girl disappears " and dies before the new day dawns.
Mark has on a Confederate States of America uniform on. I am the biggest Divinyls fan in the former Confederate States of America and the decedent of many Confederate soldiers so that is extra cool.
My absolute FAVOURITE track by Divinyls. Perfect intro and such strong melody, chord changes and energy. And I love the video, legendary!... Such a perfect example of an amazing 80's structured track yet so simple.
Why cant we have music like this now.All the music around now is shit with no meaning.Grew up with this band, watching at my local pub, as well as spy vs spy, machinations, midnight oil, radiators, hoodoo gurus. If your not Ozzy, these are great bands and still going, well most any way, cheers ps Chrissy is still hhhhooootttt.
I hated this song as a kid growing up but love looking back at it now...

My dad had no idea the older woman was his mate's mother... ouch!

Now that is a great story!

Which is chrissie's true hair color?
Sherkan1992 2 years ago
Looking at childhood and teen pictures of her, I'd say her natural colour might have been a light brown, perhaps dark-blonde colour. I don't know if the auburn colour is her natural colour. However, she seems to have been displaying an auburn colour during the past 30 years, so maybe that is her natural colour.
Next step... ask Chrissie.

Why all chrissie videos from the 80's has the word "Rage" at the beggining?
Sherkan1992 2 years ago

Melbourne can claim Chrissie - who is, a Melbourne girl.
nzoz1984 3 years ago
Yes, but the band was quintessentially Sydney with it's brash, glamourous, rocky sound and the band itself was based in Sydney for much of it's life. Plus Chrissie had lots of family in Sydney.

I didn't deny the band being from Sydney.. I'm a Sydney sider myself.

Going home from school from Town Hall to Carlingford back in the 80's after night practises i always sat on the train on the left to see it.

When i saw the beginning of this clip,it was spooky seeing the large passenger plane, appear to hit a large city building.

Yea, I noticed that too. We are so scarred from 9/11 I think we will always notice things like that.
