@smalltownfangirl28: Think of John F. Kennedy (or anybody from his neck of the woods) say "turn" and you're almost there. It is a german O Umlaut with a bit of an a at the end to soften it up. Word with a little bit of a at the end of the o will also do.
Aha, so I'm beginning to learn Icelandic, but just one thing: I can't find a definite pronunciation for ö. Some sources say "ah", some say "ur", etc. I don't know. Anyone? ^^'
I wish they would translate this better :( all the lyrics are different than the origonal in English. It's very beautiful, though. But in this one he seems meaner than usual, as if they were slaves. But in the orrigonal, he is convincing them.
@Scarlettwolfy For Disney, translating songs is not only about the meaning. The words gotta fit the lips movements. You can't put any words you want to make an exact translation. But still, I agree that the lyrics are somwhwat far from the originals.
Vocabulary will be easy for you to build because of the great amount of similarities between the languages, but Icelandic grammar is less degraded in comparison to Swedish and the other mainland Scandinavian languages, so you might have quite a bit of difficulty in learning that. Proper pronunciation might be an issue at first as well.
In this song from the Lion King it sounds even more "evil" than german ;-)
This dub seems very well made and the voices fit very well. A very good job job considering the small target audience (only 300.000 people in the world speak Icelandic)
@persy99 I can concede to that. I only said Danish because it reminded me of Dansk, but I haven't really heard any Norwegian so I'll believe it. It makes sense
What amazes me is how violent the lyrics are near the end. Didn't expect that from a kid's movie. Still this version is one of best along with Zulu, Russian and German
I'm impressed by the lipsyncing in this version. Some languages, you can very clearly tell that it was dubbed from another language, but not in this version.
this language in this song in purtular is very cunning and the hyineas should rule the graveyeard insted of the pride lands because it is like soo difrent because they have pride rock witch scar dosent even need or should b e king soo he should be thron with his big bro to
the icelandic j is always like the english y in like "yo". It never has that harsh sound the english j has. And then the icelandic y sounds exactly the same as the icelandic i, the difference is just grammatical :)
Wow! You actually translated what the hyenas were singing. Not many people post those lyrics on their videos. I love the line about eating until they pass out!
You are the only one that translates the hyenas' speech almost at the end. I hadn't even paid attention to that detail. That was nice, Tunfiskurinn!! ;-)
It's easy to explain. Between the 6th and 8th centurey there was a "consonant shift" in the German language. Some consonants are shift to other. So before the shift Germans wrote "Stolt" after the shift the wrote "Stols/Stolz" Other examples are "Water" - Wasser" - "Schipp - Schiff"
Thanks for posting that. The Icelandic language is interesting to me. I'm from America and I have been to Iceland but only for a short while, I just switched planes.
I heard maybe a few German words as well. I've studied German for 4 years and some words sounded familiar to me.
I speak Dutch and German and actually understood a bit of what was said. I personally would love to learn Icelandic, though. It is an amazing language, especially considering how old it is.
From the beginning to 0:42 it sort of sounds like played backwards, and then after that something between Swedish and Russian. I'm Finnish and I've studied Swedish for 6 years and I notice how some of the words resemble Swedish.
Scar's voice is awesome, love the song! Thanks for uploading!
Scar's voice in Icelandic is cool, sexy and sinister! I want to marry an Icelandic guy! I love the part at 0:58, he sounds the best at that part(and the end).
at 0:41 (note that i don't speak icelandic) your word order is kinda messed up, i.e., we never put things like that in english. it should be "when one stands against royalty."
Scar is so cool in this version!!! It's my favorite! He sounds so evil but with like a sarcastic/funny tone in his voice. I love the part when he says "Be prepared to steal the power" in Icelandic. I want to marry an Icelandic guy now.
ehh just to make what i I said a little bit clearer, I'm not confusing Hugo Weaving with Jeremy Irons. It's just that a alot of pepole thiks he's sexy in wierd way. They're amazing actors but not sexy imo.. hmm.. a bit off topic.. well well.. and btw send me all the proposals you want, as long as you speak Icelandic I promise I'll say yes!
What ? you don't like Jeremy's Irons voice? it's sooooo sexy... i know the other actor looks like and he plain nothing close to scary... Jeremy irons actually looks like scar... have you seen house of the spirits... he's ugly... buut still in a way sexy.. :P I'm Icelandic so I think the Icelandic words are rather ... cheesy but oh so poetic... since the english versions was actually written with the song.. it kind of fits better... But he's good off course, and he does a grate scar.. But I have to say my favorite is actually the Finnish one:) But like I said, nothing (in my opinion) is more sexy or beautiful as the Icelandic language :)
One teensy beetsie question here tuna ;) Why'd you change the opening line??? The new one is good, yes, but I though we like the platonic obidience! ^^ Well I'm sure you have your reasons... Now, your new mission is to love Michael Wincott! Hai! Späder then ;)
Því hann var greinilega ekki að segja Andlega Hlýðinn heldur Andlega Hliðin x) Ég fékk mikið um það á gamla myndbandinu svo ég breytti því núna. Og ef þú hlustar vel þá munt þú eflaust heyra það vel líka :)
ég var að taka eftir því að skari og síra tala voða svipað, allavega eins og þegar skari segir tungur og gungur eða e-ð þannig þá er það voða svipað og síra segir. prófið að hlusta á my lullaby á íslensku.
Haha this brings up good memories :P.. must say i am deffinatley not agree with you sefflon.. this is much better in icelandic than in english i must say! awsome :D
HVernig fattaði ég ekki að Jóhann Sigurðsson talar fyrir Skara?!? Hann er einn af mínum uppáhalds... og hvernig í fjandanum fer hann að því að hljóma svona evil? hann er með svo góðlega rödd :Ð
@Scarlettwolfy Thats the point, You can't expect us to translate it perfectly and make it sound good.

But I have to say my favorite is actually the Finnish one:) But like I said, nothing (in my opinion) is more sexy or beautiful as the Icelandic language :)

I love the lyrics, Scar sounds all demanding and treats the Hyena's like slaves instead of allies like in the English version.

One teensy beetsie question here tuna ;) Why'd you change the opening line??? The new one is good, yes, but I though we like the platonic obidience! ^^ Well I'm sure you have your reasons... Now, your new mission is to love Michael Wincott! Hai! Späder then ;)

Því hann var greinilega ekki að segja Andlega Hlýðinn heldur Andlega Hliðin x) Ég fékk mikið um það á gamla myndbandinu svo ég breytti því núna. Og ef þú hlustar vel þá munt þú eflaust heyra það vel líka :)

ég var að taka eftir því að skari og síra tala voða svipað, allavega eins og þegar skari segir tungur og gungur eða e-ð þannig þá er það voða svipað og síra segir. prófið að hlusta á my lullaby á íslensku.
SKARI ER SVO FIINE :)

The lyrics are awesome! So evil! Not the best singer though, his voice isn't as strong as I would like it to be...but that's just my opinion.

HVernig fattaði ég ekki að Jóhann Sigurðsson talar fyrir Skara?!? Hann er einn af mínum uppáhalds... og hvernig í fjandanum fer hann að því að hljóma svona evil? hann er með svo góðlega rödd :Ð
