Most of the songs in this movie were written by Sri.Gopalakrishna Bharathiyar. But this particular song is from Thiruvarutpaa by Vallalar. In Thiruvarutpaa it all ends with "adi" which they have changed here as "avan".
Nandanar who merged in the supreme , and great saint. A sharp and scathing criticism of the caste system. In that realm, the kingdom of God , there is no discrimination. That kingdom of love is within you. That knows no distinction of color caste or race and so on. THANKS
Who understood the purpose of life will certainly won't discuss about caste. Everything is created from "The One goes into "The One (after self realization). One should have the knowledge of soul (i.e Aatma Gnanam). Four order of caste was simply created for people to do their own duty (karma) by following Dharma. No business for comparing status in caste here. It because some people have deviated from this system this sort of discussion exists. The song Metha Kadinum clearly states this.
why does not dandapani desikar dont have a revered place in carnatic music. just because he his not a brahmin. All brahmin artiste put together cannot evoke that level of bhakti what Dandapani Desikar evokes
I am a brahmin but like to share this glorious fact that of 63 nayanmars only 2 were brahmins and remaining were from so called "lower caste". This shows that GOD only sees divinity in a person and nothing else.
You are not Correct. Here is the list of Nayanmar from Brahmin caste. 1-Kunkuliya Kalayar 2-Muruga Nayanar 3-Rutra Pasupathi 4-Chandesurar 5-Appoothi 6-Neelanakkar 7-Naminandhi 8-Sambanthar 9-Somai Maran 10-Sirapuli 11-SiruThondar 12-Gana Nathar 13-Poosalar 14-Sadaiyar 15-Sundharar.
It is quite possible that Dandapani Desikar got the short shrift merely because he was not a Brahmin.
When it comes to discrimination, Brahmins do not spare their own kind either. Chanakya, a Brahmin, played a key role in Chandragupta Maurya, a 'lower-caste' person becoming the emperor of north India. So, the Brahmins completely did away with all of Chanakya's writings. We know of the book Chanakya wrote, Arthasaasthra, only from quotations from ancient Greek and other sources.
Dandapani Desikar's talents might have been limited by contributions to the film line. Whereas his father Muthiah Bhagavatar, a renowned musician in the 20th century, was well-respected by people from all castes. M.S Subbalakshmi, Yesudas, Unnikrishnan, Chowdiah are examples of gems from non-brahmin backgrounds. There are thousands of compositions of alwars and nayanmars from all castes which are respected by all. Please leave music and bhakti out of caste debates. These people are caste-less!
Just because there are a few non-Brahmin musicians who have become famous of late does not mean that caste-based discrimination did not exist.
Talent truly is casteless, but casteism does not recognize that fact. So, when we discuss Brahminical casteism, we cannot just throw about a few counter examples and dismiss the matter. A few counter examples do not disprove a widespread fact.
why always there is someone trigger these sort of issue if it is not language then it is race and or caste or colour.

kodhai tamil vedham anaithukum vithaagum.
The "widespread fact" is within u ...open ur eyes... the day is bright.
All these make good copy, but they don't erase the fact of casteism of the Brahmins. It still exists in many parts of India, though it may have weakened in big cities.
now u r diverting the raised subject over Brahmins dominated Carnatic cum caste discrimination to a general topic on Brahmins casteism.
what is casteism? it is a form fanatism/chauvinism/discrimination differentiating a member/group of a society by means of: race, language, colour, religion, education, socio-economic, heritage..etc) it is every where throughout the world. simply bragging the superiority and patronising the inferiors.
You say "Discrimination is there everywhere in the world, so it is excusable". By that Brahminical logic, it should be OK to murder you or your family because murders occur everywhere.
When any Indian kingdom was invaded, who bled & died defending it? The non-Brahmins.
Who worked in the fields in the sun & rain to produce food? Non-Brahmins.
Who carried the stones to build the temples of the Brahmins? Non-Brahmins.
What did the Brahmins do? They sat on their asses & chanted Sanskrit verses.
You say "Discrimination is there everywhere in the world, so it is excusable". By that Brahminical logic, it should be OK to murder you or your family because murders occur everywhere.
perhaps that is your wrong perception, read it again carefully, I said it is prevalent in different forms globally, in my whole context I didn't or will ever support any sort of discrimination, stereotype..prejudice.
When any Indian kingdom was invaded, who bled & died defending it? The non-Brahmins.
felt sorry for your least knowledge of indian history..(do further readings and research)..subramanya bharathi is a brahmana, rabindra naath tagore is a brahmana...
I thaught u r a decent fellow and u have prove it otherwise, chant it takes hours to complete the hymns, it will knackered to standing for hours thus it is comfortable to sat, by the not only sanskrit, in my congregation(sri vaishnava thenkalai sampradaayam) we sat and chant sanga Tamizh hymns(4000 aalwar paasuram which prominent for us then the satur vedham) for hours atleast the proper version.saattrumurai takes 3 to 4 hours to complete.
The facts are completely against you, so you accuse me of blind racism. Typical Brahmin tactic.
Keep your blessings & brotherly sentiment. Brahmins are the complete opposites of wisdom, enlightenment and God. Indian society never needed Brahmins - for any purpose.
well!! now let see whether the vast majority of Indian society would support your view of needed or not to India, indians civilisation, glory, education-academy, socio-economy needs.
The 'lower' castes formed the vast majority of Indian people & were not even allowed basic education. So Brahmins achieved fame in the past because the table was tilted in their favor. All their philosophy & poems did nothing to benefit the vast majority of Indians, who did not need poems anyway.
Real wisdom is in facing facts even if they hurt your Brahmin ego, not in making lists or quoting poets & claiming to be a Dravida sisu of love.
I think ur ignorant, they are not poets, infact the list comprise of scientist, mathematician, it technologist, philosophers, musicians, sports mans, which India glorifying and claiming royalty, "those lower castes formed the vast majority of indian people..not even allowed basic education was subject to discrimination by other non-brahmins and lower caste nation who are financial well soundable and still taking advantage of the flaw system.

not only limited here, even ssvasan's auvaiyaar (k b sundarambal-non brahmin) till todate we can't imagine anyone else apart of k b sundarambal as our auvaiyaar paatti, ssvasan is brahmin, kothamangalam subbu was a brahmin, we didn't see any sort of discriminations here, further "jathi erandoliya ver...ittaar periyoor..idaataar ilikulathar" was the first hymns included in the movie, ss vasan and kothamangalm subbu came from a poor family they did valued humanity and not casteism or racism
