  • Wow, this is from the time people made real music :-) Best time of my life.

  • About 15 years ago I was in my favorite big-box building materials store and TAWOTWS was playing on the music track. It was a bit ironic to see several stereotypical construction-type guys walking around with a lilt in their step, grooving to the music. I'm not sure they were listening to the words...

  • one of the BEST!

  • @superhanky2 okay. cool.

  • megadeth sucks

  • and so does this

  • How come a complete asshole like Lou Reed could make such a perfect song like this?

  • @rickbandana and 'Perfect Day'

  • @SuperNevile Sure; I forgot it.

  • @rickbandana Just curious.....how exactly is Lou Reed a 'complete asshole'? Using the Lulu thing is too easy, so you'll have to do better than that if that is your reason.

  • @uofm97 Just have a look at any of his interviews.

(What the fuck is "the Lulu thing", by the way?)

  • @rickbandana The album Lou did with Metallica based around a couple of plays Lou likes. You really don't know anything about it? You must not be from the U.S. then because every video that has to do with either of them is full of comments about how much they hate the album. lol

  • When he dies, I am going to play this song over his grave DoDoDoDoDoDoDoDo. Jesus, is there another Artiste who lives and breaths New York City like Lou Reed does? New York City is like this giant APPLE TREE. From afar, it is stunning for its shade, its green and its magnificant Fruit. Only when you get up close do you discover the maggots and worms (or the people Lou Reed always manages to sing about). A New York State of Mind is what it takes!!!

  • That's awesome that you were able to grow up and listen to music like this (even with the cotton candy froth that was out then too!). It sure beats a lot of the popular stuff out today. Just gets worse and worse

  • @Princeboy99 i am so glad that i grew up in the 80s and 90s. they dont make music like they used too. its a shame

  • I loved this when I was too young to understand the lyrics or even care about lyrics. The airwaves in the early '70s were filled with cotton candy froth--then along came this music and scoured the air clean with sophisticated rhythm and a fresh combination of instruments. A turning point for the kind of radio I could get.

  • NYC perverts and urine scented sidewalks

  • Yay 480p version!

  • LIKE MOST THINGS IN LIFE LOU REED GOT IT EXACTLY RIGHT WHEN HE SANG THE LINE "VALIUM WOULD HAVE HELPED THAT FAST...". ALWAYS WORKED FOR ME OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS! STONES CALLED THEM "MOTHERS LITTLE HELPER" - "AND OUTSIDE THE DOOR SHE TOOK FOUR MORE". THAT'S WHAT I COULD USE ABOUT NOW. 4 OR 5 - JUST TO GET ME THROUGH THE NIGHT. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT, I'D LIKE TO KNOW. EXCEPT NOW VALIUM IS BEING REPLACED BY XANAX, ETC. - AND THEY'RE NOT QUITE THE SAME AT ALL.

  • @FNOT4YOU I hear you. Xanax sucks because it makes you forget where the caps lock key is.

  • @FNOT4YOU Is your caps lock key broken?

  • give it up dumbasses, homophobia died out with racism. don't close doors, just fuck everything you can see. as long as it's human. and over 18.

  • @callitacomeb10106 best comment I've ever seen.

  • @callitacomeb10106 when did racism die out ?

  • @MolotovThug RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN AMERIKA---they just sling it between the lines, that's all.

  • Sooo relaxing! Perfect while studying :D

  • Kickass!! Love it..

  • Can I kick it?

  • youtube.com/watch?v=OwVw6x7lzGY

Kinks out of the wardrobe from the misfits album :) Great song...

  • You know you've listened to this song too much when you feel the need to periodically say in conversation "And the covergirls say,"

    Am I right?

  • @emPtysp4ce It's "coloured girls"not "covergirls"

  • this is one snazzy tune about tranny's.

  • Not only are those sophisticated people practicing the very intolerance they preach again, they are ridiculously sterotypical and idiotic.

I believe doing drugs is a choice, as well. DOes this automatically mean I hate drug users and have some irrational fear of them (which is what a phobia is)?

  • The people who whine about intolerance, always seem to be the most intolerant people there are. It seems anyon who disagrees with them, to the simple point of saying "I think it's a choice" are labled as hate mogering, homophobes.

  • @195114sm Well unless you actually "made that choice" in your own life, it's kind of pompous of you to automatically think you know exactly how someone else decides to live their life. I could care less about all that though. Lou Reed kicks ass no matter what he's signing about

  • @195114sm Yeah, this isn't a soapbox moron.

  • @195114sm: You think being hetero or gay is a "choice?" Really?

So when precisely did you "choose" to be heterosexual? Did you wake up one morning when you were 14 years old and say,"Oh, I could go either way, but I think I'll be straight"?

Or did you enter puberty just knowing in your cells to whom you were attracted?

  • @195114sm I don't think you're a hate mogering homophobe. A bigot, probably, but never a hate mogerer.

  • this song rules

  • Watch the dvd "Classic Albums" making of this record. It's full of great stories. Herbie Flowers, the bass player on this song, figured out how he could make double his session fee by doubling his bass part. One electric and one upright accoustic for the slide notes.

  • love it for years

  • The quality of a music seems to be inversely proportional to the number of views on youtube.

  • THIS A GOOOOOOOD ONE ! ! ! ! ! !! ! !

  • WOW, I DO MEAN WOW ON THIS TRIPPY ASS SONG. TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE, BOY THIS SONG BRINGS ME BACK TO THE ARCHIVES. WHEN I WAS A YOUNG BUCK EVERY TIME THIS SONG CAME ON I FELT LIKE I WAS ON ACID MAN. AND THE COLOR GIRLS GO DEW DEWRUT, DEW DEWRUT. WOW WHAT A SONG ILL NEVER FORGET, AND THAT SAX AT THE END , MADE THE SONG. PEACE OUR.

  • love it! so mellow and relaxing, n the lyrics def put a smile on your face, lol ;)

  • @queenkettlehead Yes, Lou Reed certainly has a way with words!

  • @Princeboy99 Lou Reed has his way with everything imo. He's one of those folks in music that payed his dues and gets to relax and enjoy his life. Good for Lou.

  • @queenkettlehead if you like this one....look for Sweet Jane....omg it'll sweep you off your feet!!! ;o)

  • does anyone have sheets for this? for any instrument, i seek it for saxophone, but any other instrument do as well. i have lot of note sheets to give in trade :)

  • The world was so much of a better place back in the days of this song, and hearing this immediately transports me back to those better times. Oh, if only I had a time machine...

  • yeah man....back in the day. Nothing new comes lose........

  • In the time when music was good.

  • "And the colored girls go: Doo Da-do da-do Doo da-do doo" lmao

  • Music for love in Silver discoteque (Girona)

    Good music to remember 70'...

  • is it just me that loves the bass line in this song ?

  • it was great back then.

  • @richard1948benz and now...

  • i love lou

  • @48dodea- Love those without understanding. It's the best way to get to them.

  • @tiborvivi- Some Christian you are. Which stone is in your hand? Jesus doesn't agree with you. Love is the most important thing we possess.

  • Really well done vid. Thanks. It was one of the best ones I've watched today. And of course, it's classic NYC all the way. Nice one. Thanks, again. I just wish I knew to whom he was referring in this song. We once heard him on the radio mentioning all the peeps in the song, but we forgot who they were. lol Hmm. If anyone knows, please pass it along. Peace.

  • i've been on the wild side of the streets and i survived....thank lou

  • OH, MY-MY! i took a Walk on the Wild Side and feel down along the way. now i can't get it up! doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-dah-doo... can you dig that Sugar Punk Fairy, huh?

  • @tiborvivi Have you killed yourself yet, you are late

  • @48dodea no, not yet. I wait until God decides to call me. In fact, I thought u will pass me. Take a walk on the wild side and drop dead similtanously.

  • @tiborvivi Dude if your gonna talk to about people that way, then I think that you are a total waste of space, and should be stuffed in a gas chamber and killed. You are a fucking rude piece of shit and a jackass. wow... i wont even keep going, you are not worth the time it takes to type on here.

  • @tiborvivi And further more, you have enough guts to say that you think God will take someone else first who respects Jews, verses you who hates them. Wow you were dipped in a can of paint thinner when you were born, and then they lit it on fire to dry you off. Really screwed with your head then didnt it?

  • @tiborvivi A comment like this is only gonna get your ass deleted from here. SPEW your hate propaganda somewhere else prick

  • @tiborvivi people like you make me ashamed to be white. that means i have something in common with you. that fact alone makes me want to vomit.

  • @tiborvivi Thanks for the info, 'cause Jewish guys are hot. Maybe I'll vacation in Israel this year. Keep up the good work, 'cause when people like you speak such idiotic twattle it actually helps the gay rights movement. The dumber and more racist you sound, the better we look. Woo hoo!

Nice to see at least one homophobic moron knows it's not a "lifestyle choice" though.

  • I think he was undertakin' a highly difficult & contraversial '¡PR' job :of "Wakin' Up' the 'walkin' ,Zombie Dildos' :who continue to haunt our streets!!!!!!!Give HIM a 'Break'...or 'HIT ME WITH FLOWERS'!!!!!XXXcreashonrebel

  • The Sax is awesome, hi from Fresnillo Mex.

    wat....

  • @busshallplats lol! it's "plucked her eyebrows on the way"

  • This song is fucking spectacular. Perfect for looking into a blue sunny sky. It makes me crave growing up in this time era like no other. Tears come to my eyes for the love of god!

  • Alright people, stop bitching at each other and just enjoy one of the great songs (and some of the catchiest sax playing) of all time.

  • @burf69 Yip i agree with burf SHUUUUUUUUUTUUUUUUUUUP ; )

  • @MonkeYxBoxeR OH I SEE NOW!!! xBOXER??? "THAT", alone says it ALL!!!! HAH HAH HAH!!! (get a REAL System!!! LMFAO!!!!). BUT, come to think of it, X-BOX IS THE "CORRECT" SYSTEM FOR YOU, now that I THOUGHT about it for AWHILE!!!! Maybe, after "MASTERING" that Piece, TAKE IT, A STEP UP!!!!

  • Is there anything that is any fucking cooler than this??

  • It´s a Classic of the Outsiders.

  • And the colored girls go doot doot dooot dooooot do do do

  • Danny La Rue, eat your heart out!!!

  • @tommydhammer I KNOW how you feel( tommydhammer), being a Musician, also!! It is a HARD ROAD out there and TODAY, Any "Exposure " is GOOD " Exposure!!! ( even if it's in the POLICE BLOTTER!!), or some "PRAISE" you received!! Just having your music on YouTube, is better than just, "Sitting on a shelf, DUSTING!" Don't YOU FEEL, the SAME????

  • @MrAlbo420 It sucks it really does, I can't seem to get much exposure but arseholes with crap/ not funny blogs can, I don't understand! If lou Reed was born today, I don't think he'd even get signed such is the way music seems to have changed.

  • @MonkeYxBoxeR fag

  • very good

  • Actually this is very if you don t like stay away.or jump back in your caddie wagon..

  • 2:02 thats Boston not NYC

  • 14 people are colored girls.

  • @SkinnedLynryd That doesn't even make sense. And the uploader put in an annotation that he did that intentionally.

  • it was ALL of his voice that mattered. thank god he didn't hit all the right notes

  • I've always been amazed how Lou Reed could have the balls to sing for money, being as tone deaf as he is. When I hear any of his music, I want to stick ice picks in my ears.

  • @hdsnake33881 PLEASE DO!

  • lol

  • @MonkeYxBoxeR Good. Don't come back here then!

  • ever sucked a chicken off??

  • "YES", please!!! STAY AWAY! We do not need INTOLERANCE, here!!!!! NOR will "WE" put up with it!!!! @ MonkeYxBOXER!!!!

  • @MrAlbo420 Aren't you being intolerant?

  • lou reed invented cool. as a matter of fact the actual word cool was invented when someone spelled the name lou as LOO. by the end of the night, after the heroine set, they had just reversed it and added a C to it in order to explain the presence of lou himself. hence the word COOL.

... sounded good to me anyway

  • My mom thinks this song is hilarious! Because of this song, I will NEVER hear the phrase "Take a walk on the wild side" the same ever again!

  • 3:57 i can assume they r good friends :)

  • This song wasn't controversial when it came out! People didn't pay much attention to the lyrics, they only heard the "Doo doo doo doo" bit.. even the expression "giving head" went unnoticed by the BBC & other broadcasting companies.. it was on the radio all over the place and a hit all over the world! It was the early 1970s, the era of Glam Rock & the sexual revolution.. it wasn't called Glam(orous) Rock for nothing! It wasn't 2011 when even smoking cigarettes is prohibited! Thanks for the post

  • @kidcalabria

I was a teen growing up in France at that time and yes, I do remember it played all over the radios, France Inter even played it for a whole week at the beginning of every hour in a popular evening program. And a song like the Kinks's LOLA, about a transvestite, was also played all over the place, we were all humming it without giving any further attention to the lyrics, nor did the radios.

  • @taiwanelisa so the Frogs love that sick shit -- Quelle surprise?

  • Well, he's amazing. But that idea Metallica had, god awful.

  • Pure classic, just great.

  • very good

  • when i hear this song, i almost get stoned

  • To Princeboy99 - Actually, I think there was a bigger issue with the line "and the colored girls go do" Believe that's why some stations (in my area) took it off the air. Nobody apparently noticed or cared about the "giving head" part. My parent's wouldn't have known what that meant anyway. Back then there was a thing called "a generation gap". Yeah, I believe that may have been the first pc censor ever.

  • Amazing that this song was able to slip under the radar and get played on top-40 radio during the seventies.

  • Lou reminds me of a way milder Lux Interior. Maybe if Lux was on downers. RIP LUX. Love Lou!

  • @00TIDIS00 Which trailer park do you live in?

  • @merdoch good one, but i live in a middle class family my dad's a rocket engineer. sorry that metallica plays music. I can play this boring shit. its almost as bad as music today no singing just him talking over a boring bass line. boring boring boring

  • @00TIDIS00 If you don't like the song, then why the heck get on here and listen to it? Just to argue? Grow up!

  • @greeneyeslinz who is this?

  • Can I kick it?

  • Oh yeah.. finally relax, good night world ;-)

  • i'd never heard anything like this and they actually played it on the radio in new york

  • 1972,the Metallica were to schools, were children, 1972!! Rinse your mouth when you talk about of Lou Reed

  • this song is the shit, period.

  • I alway's liked this song and i'm not gay,, its a good song

  • Comment removed

  • Superbly Produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson (Mott the Hoople)

  • It is not necessarily about "prostitutes" as is written above. Transvestites, gays, and flamboyant sexual and wild behavior but.......not prostitutes. You can be a flaming drag queen and not be a prostitute.

  • @shelleyinthecity 1:49 "Little Joe never once gave it away. Everybody had to pay and pay."

  • @LaBelleParisienne1 That refers to a drug dealer, not a prostitute.

  • Herbie Flowers on bass?

  • Who wants to take a walk on the Wild Side ?

  • @therealplease I'll Wild your side.

  • I AM THE TABLE

  • buffalo springfield

  • pezzo mitico..

  • there should be more LIVE performances of this song!!! SMH

  • nice bass

  • can you dig it? c:

  • The character that this song is based off of, is from a movie called Trash, an andy warhol film. It's a really messed up and hilarious movie.

  • MUITO À FRENTE DO TEMPO ... isto é letra para os dias de HOJE ,,,... AMO

  • princeboy99 i would have done the same thing. im a die hard red sox fan and boston is the best city in the world. fuck the yankees!

  • say what you want about lou but he is a musical genius

  • @themunchdude Agreeed!

  • Great song and memories from growing up! And I still have this '45'....

  • What was eerie was that this song was a glimpse of the sexual climate that ushered in the outbreak of aids in NYC during the early eighties--promiscuity, prostitution, drug abuse and a complete lack of precautionary behavior.

  • @mrsolofeo Well I'll be fucked!

  • What was funny was that this song was being played on mainstream radio and no one had a clue what it was about--even the giving head reference seemed to slip by everyone.

  • @mrsolofeo, the only thing that slipped past this preteen (at the time) was that it was based on Andy Warhol's friends. Not long after I saw much worse on the streets and buses in North Hollywood.

  • Pure decadence!

  • 2 yrs b4 the release of this song "the kinks," perhaps rock and rolls most underrated bands of all time, came out with Lola, another truly great song about the same topic.

  • FUCK boston

  • she said: hey baby, take a walk on the wild side...

  • This classic KICKS ASS!!! Don't make them like that anymore!

  • Download the audio from this song at tubepull doht cohm.
