  • Really enjoyed this little series! Thanks Nick

  • Its good to see a guide for real bikers who ride all year round on older bikes!

  • I have a self diagnosed CCD when it comes to my bike. I'm using the same polish as you but I didn't realise it was abrasive. I'm off out for wax now. Like a few others here I wouldn't put WD40 near my chain.

  • You use the wd40 to clean the chain, then scrub with normal motorcycle cleaner to remove the WD40 residue then lube.

  • Do not use wd 40 on the chain. Use O ring spray or lube.

  • dats a really big bottle of wd40... didnt know they had those...

  • Excellent collection of videos.

    Thanks a bunch.

    5/5

  • doesnt wd40 damage the O rings on the chain?

  • No, BUT it can penetrate the rings and dilute the grease that the rings are sealing in and cause premature wear on the pins. It's fine to wipe down the chain with it on a rag, but I wouldn't saturate the chain with it...

  • man, you must have done some bike cleaning before! lol

  • great. thanks buddy!

  • nick,tx for the ideas...

  • hi nick, could you do all of the stuff you did to your bike on a pit bike? thanks

  • I'd recommend to aplly some more lube to the chain directly after the first ride. The chain will be warm then and the lubricant can move into the chain more easily.

  • Hey Nick,

Got a question for you. I'm riding on a Honda Shadow and there are a lot of chrome parts all over. I loved these videos but I don't know exactly what, if anything, on your bike was chrome? Any tips when it comes to cleaning and polishing, etc.? THanks

  • Hi there

My advice with chrome is never to use an abrasive polish. Cosmetic chrome is very thin and repeated polishing will evetually wear through it. Use a wax instead and apply often for best results.

    Kind regards

  • Thanks for all the vids, theres some good tricks in them =)

i do wonder tho how long you spend riding the bike compared to cleaning it :P

  • It's going to work, probably not quite as well, but you can't spend all your life cleaning a bike can you! You could always get some protective spray ACF-50 for example, and clean it less frequently.

  • Hi there

I would recommend a quick rinse with cold water at the end of the day, the cold water slows the salts reaction and of course washes most of it off. Just in the worst areas, under the mudguards and front of the engine.

    Cheers

    Nick

  • You have good videos, but you didnt say much about lubing the chain. If you dont lube the chain, chain will

wear rapidly and causes bigger power loose.

  • i never seen such big wd40 containers.. great job thanks. btw, i just bought a bike, dont know much.. if it ok to just use car cleaning soap and rub it all over bike, and just hose it down?

  • It's fine to use car shampoo, it's better than washing up liquid because it contains much less salt. You can get WD40 in 5 litre tubs from motor factors and they usually come with spray guns and should cost less than £15. Bargain!

    Cheers

  • What type of oil did you put on the chain?

  • Hi

I always use a wax based chain lube that's O-ring friendly. In this case it was Wurth Chain Wax.

    Regards

    Nick Hine
