I have two MN's and for the life of me can not engage the safety on one of them. I can on the other fine, but on the other one, forget it. I have cleaned it and can pull it back, but not shift it to the left. Any ideas???
@tacoman375 there are a few mods but general NO. for a 100 year old technology it rocks. it is hard to compare to modern weapons, it is like night and day. the funny part is they are so good that they do get compared to modern weapons..
I just purchased a Mosin Nagant M91/30 and it seems my extractor is quite stiff. Is this normal? Because of the stiffness I really have to jam the bolt forward to get it to catch the round and seat properly. Is this normal? Any suggestions? Any help you could give would be awsome, thanks.
Well Ive been working it w/ a dummy round I purchased (as a gift for a very gun loving 8yr old cousin) and it is seeming to work a little bit better. It couldve just been stiff from sitting in storage for so long(idk). Ill be giving it a thorough work through at the range this week. If all else fails, Ill probably just get a new bolt or extractor. Thanks for the help.
@JoeysTheMan54 I see your prices for "fixing" the mosin-nagant. It's funny because let's be honest, The mosin-nagant isn't even $100USD. (Well.. around here it isn't.)
I'm also glad to hear that it's not just my old rifle being stubborn. That's a hell of a spring in there. My Nagant is a nice old Sestroryetsk made M91 dated 1896.
i own an m44 and thought the spring was just really stiff, im glad mine's not the only one, i ended up just getting a trigger lock because even using my thumb and index finger it's still very difficult
Yes I have. I have several that I have converted to sportsers. I used to buy custom rings from guys on ebay but that is over now that ebay banned gun parts. anyone know where to get old parts from now?
hopefully you have heated up the wood before you put any finish on. I had a friend that refinished his, it was really nice. did not sweat out the cosmoline. when he went shooting for the first time it sweated out the pours in the wood ruined the finish and he had to do it all over again. I use a heat gun, some use hairdryers. I have also wrapped it in a towel and left it on the dash of a car. This works great in the summer.
It's not actually pinching your finger, it's pinching the nerve IN your finger (against the bone) from the pressure you need to use to grip the back end of the bolt.
Sorry I may have been unclear before.
And yes, it is difficult to grip it using your fingertips, which is evident from my video (the one you replied to).

I have not had that problem on any of mine. You might try installing another extractor.
TNGUNS(dot)com has mosin parts for sale. a complete bolt is $35 They also sell small bolt pieces.

Man, 3 more days and I'll put mine up. Final sanding today, and then to the clear coat. Still have to wait a few weeks to shoot though.
