I'm a 49er fan and I think Alex Smith has potential because of his accuracy as a passer. I honestly don't know why he hasn't become a pro bowler with his talent. To be honest, I wanted them to draft Braylon Edwards but I was only like 15 when that draft happened ha.
Alex is accurate. It's not fair that half of his interceptions come off receivers ( who are now gone from the team) who can't hold the ball and tip them into the air. Smith was completing 70 percent in college. Of course, he had Urban Meyer mentoring him. Not fair to judge Smith for inconsistency when his coaches change everytime he looks at the sideline.
What I would like to know is after 6 horrible seasons with a QB who shouldnt even be playing in the arena league,how is it we still have die hard Alex Smith fans?honestly how is this possible?do you not watch the games?what is it about him that makes you think hes so great when clearly he is not,and as for the excuses people like to use in his defense, ever stop to think that maybe just maybe all those caoches and cordinaters got fired because he makes them look bad and not the other way around?
Because unlike you LaDay, we see talent and recognize it. Of those 6 seasons you are bitching about, Alex only played in a cumulative 3.5 of them. In all of those seasons, you have 2 coach firings, several offensive coordinators leaving, a horrible offensive line, horrible receivers (in the majority of those years). Take a look at Smith's stats the last 2 seasons and you'll see he's done better than A LOT of quarterbacks.

People were excited about the Jimmy Raye / Alex Smith combo, simply because Raye stayed for a second season for consistency sake? A second year of what?....consistent POS play calling AND QB play

Yeah... a lot of blame placed on the QB, as it usually is when a team is losing, but look how often his pocket collapses just in these highlights. Find highlights of Peyton or Brady and you'll see their protection is much better. Not even trying to compare Smith at all, but I do think he can be a competent NFL starter if he were in a better situation.
I agree. If you look at the sacks and interceptions alex throws. They are all because his pocket collapsed in less than 3 seconds. That 1 extra second to give your receivers time to run their routes is crucial for the quarterback.

If there's one thing Alex needs to work on, it's his nerves in the pocket, he always looks a bit panicked to me, of course, our O line didn't do enough last year to make him feel comfortable enough in the pocket, I feel like, which hopefully is something that our two rookie linemen can do, but I think their development will take some time. I hope to see a bit more patience and poise out of him this year and maybe he'll learn to take snaps behind center as well instead of always lining up shotgun

Alex isn't accurate as those naysayers have been moaning about. He was the most accurate passer under Urban Meyer which is why Mccarthy and Niners picked him over Rodgers. It wasn't fair to throw Alex into the fire and have him get injured and judge him based on those results.
