very interesting documentary, although I always feel like the usual explanation for metal's origins, or at least it's fans, is too simplistic. I'm not from a poor background, I don't live in a rough area, I haven't had family problems, I'm not an angsty, angry individual into evil things etc., which are all cited in this documentary. Those things undoubtedly are true for many, but I'm sure there are many metal fans like me and it would be interesting to know why we like it! I don't really know

Punk NEVER tried to destroy metal! Punk is metal's cousin. Both genres were born out of the angst of bored and angry urban youth. Almost all of the derivations of extreme metal were influenced by hardcore punk. Speed metal, thrash metal, death metal, first waves of black metal, etc. It's 2011, let's leave the stupid "metal vs. punk" feuds in the 80's where they belong.
