No offenese, but the hustle is all about coolness, it's about disco, rebellion, Soul Train, Van McCoy. The couple who could do the hustle ruled the dance floor. What you are doing takes the Soul out of the hustle and makes it just like any other dance. Where's the coolness, the mojo, the soul?? Think John Travolta whenever you do the hustle.
When I learn dance from video I just turn off the sound. No two instructors count the same way even if they do the same thing and to complicate matters there are many different versions of a basic dance some differing only in nuance or where you start. Regard the count here....It seems "and" to musician would be the beat between the beats (e.g. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4) but here it seems "and" could have easily been called "1". Still I'm not sure.
I don't know what the deuce I'm talking about. The dance can be in 3/4 or 4/4, even though the song is in 4/4. Either way is fine... though I get the impression that partner dancing is in 3/4 and line dancing is in 4/4.
Randy and Duke - I did a search on "Hustle music". It said musicians have a hard time adjusting to that 3 AND... thing. With us, we most often treat each beat the same, with the ANDS, like 1 and 2 and 3 and, but "and" only on the 3? Need cup of coffee now! LOL. Like Turkish music - odd meters? OR is it just the counting? There are two styles? They did mention that. Randy, I understand what you mean. I think there are 2 different things going on. Two different styles. One is 3/4, one is 4/4?

You guys are great instructors but I agree with randylyn1, intro redundancy and it's beginning to get in my nerve.
