  • oh cette nostalgie de nos années bonheur avec merci pour toutes vos chansons qui embaume nos coeur

  • Love this ballad, sad song but great

  • Charted or not, this song is brilliant.... Beautiful... Meaningful.... Love it......

  • It's enough to give melodrama a bad name . . .

  • 65 people can't speak english???

  • Was in Paris for New Year Eve...could not get this song out of my head...

  • How can you dislike this?

  • Where have all the ballads gone? Industry execs sucked their true emotions out! Where have all the industry execs gone? Napster youtube music's free! (with apologies to "where have all the flowers gone") I would rather go to a bar with a cover band or do Karaoke than listen to the predigested puerile pap that passes for pop with the latest generation of sheep.

  • Broken English was a wonderful album! Use to have it in the 80's, Thanks!

  • intens mooie stem het doet bijna pijn om haar zo te horen zingen fantasties

  • MI SONO ISCRITTO, GRADIREI LA TUA OPINIONE SUL MIO CANALE NONOSTANTE STIA FACENDO ANCORA LE DOVUTE CANCELLAZIONI DEI BRANI CON L*AUDIO DIFETTOSO, GRAZIE ITALO

  • BELLISSIMA

  • Bravo! Super. Do you ant to see my version of Sylvia mother I have made it befor more of 10 years: sorry, I cant write the link due u tube

  • Is this an allegory of her own experience? Has she not spent much of it trying to roar along through Paris with the warm wind in her hair.

  • They misspelled her name in the video. There should be an extra L in Faithfull.

  • all i can say it is a stunning song since the day it came out

  • best version..

  • le silence, la solitude,l'adieu, le départ, pour se faire entendre,et........

  • ahh so long marianne! of all the dammed ironies, it seems to be funny between us doesnt it mama?

  • this is the third year in a row that i have written about this song in my english essays. obsessed? maybe.

  • It is ALWAYS possible to drive through Paris. In a sportscar. It takes a while. Better would be to simply walk through Paris. There are absolutely better things to look at. Still I love this song, the first computerized song. Hope Jagger likes it.

  • @SelfTubeFreak yeah, hope he did too!

  • this is music

  • This song feel s like a movie when she ,and only she sings it ! Supergood!!

  • This without doubt is my most favourite Marriane song, she sings it great but unfortunatley she experienced the happenings of the song,so she sings it with a passion.

  • x :-)

  • classic song

  • This song's divine, it simply makes me cry...

  • there are certian songs that touch your heart, this is one of them for me.. No matter who is singing it, but Marrianne's version is just awesome..

  • this is the first song of hers i ever heard her sing now i cant get enought

  • sei meravigliosa marianne

  • i paid for those mars bars, jagger still owes me.

  • @beans1308 I bet it went in as sugar based confectionary and came out as a fondue.

  • better to ride through Paris at 37 in victory, than have your head roll into a basket before an angry mob. Poor Marie Antoinette, imagine going from queen to guillotine at age 37. Better luck to all the women who have international jet-setting dreams may your ride through the streets of Paris with the wind through your hair and the one you love nearby be so much better than hers

  • Will i ever get there?...im still unsure, and ever hopeful....

  • Marianne is a legend!!!

  • This is the song that got me to move to Japan. All I could think of was waking up at 37 and wondering why I never even tried....

  • Unrealized dreams. Been there. Done that.

  • I'll be 50 when I do this but I WILL ride in a sports car with the wind in what is left of my hair. When I was 37 I knew I would do it one day and soon I will. And I will do so loving Lucy and Marianne.

    Thank you Lucy.

  • jadore jadore jadore

  • I'm going to Paris on the 29th July, I will be wearing a scarf but unfortunately without the sports car! Lol

  • aaaagggghhhh less then 3 weeks to go to being lucy jordans age................

  • When the time comes, this will be it.

  • Loved this on Ab Fab!!!

  • This song never charted in the U.S.....though it didn't do very well in the U.K.

charts either....But, WHO CARES! This song is couldn't have been sung by anyone

else the way Marianne Faithfull did........This has to be one of the saddest songs I've

ever heard...It's simply beautiful and one of my new all-time favorites....This ballad

has as much emotion as an opera.

  • Another one of this best best song ever.

  • superbe extraordinaire ma chanson preferee et sa voix un delice merci , amities pat

  • so much pain but so beautiful! this song touches me whenever I hear it!

  • Love this song :-)

  • Love this sang :-)

  • MARVELLOUS!!!

  • One of the best songs of all time... Simply anthemic, inspirational and Faithfull!!

  • i see marianne on tv today, i would still give her one even at her age,

  • I have often wondered if Silverstein, the writer, had heard the Irish song Nancy Miles, it's similar in theme and over all composite.

  • doesn't she look and sound like someone that you just want to wrap your arms around and protect from the rest of the world and erase everything that has happened to her?

  • Thumbs up if Thelma and Louise brought you here! :)

  • @idkidgaflol Check out the film "Montenegro." It was made in 1981 and you can find it on youtube. You'll appreciate the beginning a lot...well, the WHOLE film is fantastic and very few people know about it...Worth a look.

  • Ms. Faithful can do no wrong. One of my favorites. Also, the song is very effectively used in the film, "Montenegro," which was released in 1981. Try to find the film, it's a rather twisted black comedy about a depressed suburban housewife who goes a bit mad - to say the least. Love the singer, love the song and love the movie.

  • Broken English is the classic "embittered Catholic female album."

  • Love this song,thanks 4 posting

  • love this women and love this song

  • She was my ideal woman in the 1960's. Listen to Doctor Hook version of this and enjoy.

  • you know how she sings in metallicas"the memory remains"?the part that goes nananananananannananananananana, does she have an original song that the nanana part came from, cause i've heard another song with that, but i can not find it anywhere...please and thank you.ive been looking for years.

  • You know I always loved Marianne but it was not untill tonight that I really understood her music for myself...been to the dentist and am in pain... and her voice is so soothing... - consolence -

  • 56 people are 38 years old and didn't make it

  • Always loved the album "Broken English" remember buyin it when it was released....a classic!

  • EEN SONG VOOR AL DIEGENE TOEN, DIE HUN DROMEN IN DUIGEN ZAGEN VALLEN. TREES

  • Fantastische Stimme, tolles Video !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the fukin koota music back in the day .....

  • LOL Barnicklemusic

You weren't carrying a crate of "screwdrivers" from Nutty Club's French Class in Canada, LMAO

"Vite, vite, ou est mon appareil?" Alma and Louise

  • great song that never really got the airplay from the radio stations that it deserved

  • Will someone explain to me why Marianne Faithful has this cult status!!! I get it when it comes to, Madonna, James Dean, Elton John, Elvis, Twiggy, Lulu, Eminem, The Doors, eg famous people but I have never heard of Marianne Faithfull. I mean what has she seriously ever done to give her such cult status??

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever Hmm... she was Mick Jagger's lover and muse, inspiring and co-writing some of their most recognized songs from Stones' early era. She's also a multifaceted singer/songwriter, active since the 60's, who has collaborated, among others, with Bowie, The Beatles, Beck, PJ Harvey, Metallica and Pink Floyd. Was also romantically linked to Bob Dylan. On top that, she's also an actress, and her great uncle was Sacher-Masoch, who spawned the word "masochism". Does that ring a bell?

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever sorry for your youth, and the fact that you sound american, but there are great singers actors etc with out having to be american, when you put her name with madonna and eminemm u have got to be bloody joking. and btw she is famous..

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever the rolling stones roadies always knew her as the martini girl

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever Dear God! You obviously have access to information. Use it.

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever - I quess you never swa her in Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, or any other venues either. Very talented woman, and yes, she has endured a very different life. She was very under estimated. Yes, she did a lot to help Mick Jagger get where he is today

  • Always makes me cry

  • maske me cry.........................

  • Mariaaane on t'aime !!!!!!!!! :) <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • Je ressens le même émotion chaque fois que je l'écoute. Troublant.

  • Its ironic I really loved Marianne I grew up in a world of men literally. Only music kept me sane.

  • I rode through Paris in a Limo @ the age of 38, does that count ?

  • @Gapples007 nope gotta be a sportscar at 37, sry ;)

  • @E81XvaMn12X1P829

Know what you mean but it was very good experience all the same !

  • @Gapples007 and that's all that counts ;)

  • génial

  • It made my time in Paris more meaningful!

  • Long winded commentary: Part 4

then and only then will you come to realize what so many other fans all ready know, Marianne Faithful is one hell of a singer. I shall now step down from my soap box and let the wind die down. The end.

  • Long winded commentary: Part 3

    making hers one of the most interesting voices around. The voice may be "quirky" to some, but the range of emotion, the phrasing, and the interpretation of lyric, can only be attributed to one who has seen much in her lifetime, which has made her an excellent performer, and interpreter of song. So, to those who think the voice is "shot," open your ears, and give this lady numerous listens;

  • Long winded commentary: Part 2

In comparison to the voice of the young innocent that sang "As Tears Go By," so many years ago, one has to agree her voice back then was thin and weak. The voice, while still pleasant to listen to, was by no means, at that time, able to hold a note to her contemporaries (Dusty Springfiled, Cilla Black, etc.). .Through the years, Faithfull has experienced life, both good and bad, and has matured, and the voice has followed suit,

  • Long windd commentary: Part 1

Just for the sake of clarification, this is not a Dr.Hook song. It was written by the great Shel Silverstein, and originally recorded by Dr. Hook. Faithfull is faithful to the song, and it's lyrics, and her interpretation make it the definitive version. I've read some comments on You Tube, such as, "her voice is shot", etc., - I don't think that's the case. (Commentary continued in next post).

  • Mars Bars and a ROLLING STONE[iminent=9IrRq9gUWfOB]

  • Incredible what Marianne Faithfull & Barry Reynolds could do with a Dr. Hook song

  • i love this women, got the chance to meet the rolling stones but to meet her would be so much better

  • @nothinghumanlovesfor So whats Mick like?

  • @lpride1 he was great, in fact i didnt have vip or anything but some girls were were showing their boobs getting bk stage, and of course my boobs are small so i wasnt going to go there. so as he was singing honky tonk women, i kept screaming at him to get his attention, i do a fantastic mick by the way i can dance exactly like him lol. and he was so amaze by it i got to go bk stage he said for me do like him that much and to dance like him he was moved by it. i would type more it wont let me

  • @nothinghumanlovesforThats a great story. What year was that? Hope you don't mind all the questions but I loved him since I was a kid. And always wondered if I met him would I be disappointed. Ok now you have to upload a video of you dancing like Mick!

  • not epic. not bad.

  • A trip !

  • I rode a taxi from Budapest to Bratislava at the age of 40, with the warm wind in my hair.

  • @nc5sf11 Thats good too!

  • This song is soundtrack of a film "Montenegro" , great film, recommended for everyone to see : - )

  • Great song.

  • Happy 64th Birthday MARiANNE FAiTHFULL ♪♫ (29 Dec 2010)

  • @MERVskilton Shes a Capricorn ? No wonder shes so great and stll ringing the bell !

  • I wish Marianne was my mum.

  • that is me - now i'm 57......

  • she really does sound just like sista otis.

  • @calicojag I just listened to Sista Otis, WTF?? I dont know which song you think sounds like marianne, I listened to a few trying to find a good one but eventually gave up, she would have to be one of the crappest singers I have ever heard lol lol lol.

  • @calicojag Never heard of her before but checked her out since your post. I don't see/hear what you do. But she is interesting and wild. Slight similarity to Janis Joplin. IMO

  • She sounds just like sista otis. listen

  • I drove though Athens in an Air Force Patrol Car at the age of 24...does that count?

  • Not as good as Dr Hook. Still ncie tho=)

  • Best heard watching the openning of Montenegro. . .

  • Thanks for sharing this gem!

  • what are you talking about? the music is remarkable. it gives the song its aesthetic history and is quite moving.

  • i love the movie thelma and luwese and that is where i frist heard this song. wonderful.

  • voice is top, of course but "music" is awful

  • lol, I rode through Paris in a taxi at 36 years old, I made it.

  • @hovis1962 i didnt wanna go to start with, when i got there it was like nothing else, everyone was in love and kissing, the wind was warm and magical and the fashion was all so cool. Loved it thanks.

  • @Barnicklemusic Great!

  • @Barnicklemusic A taxi is not technically a sportscar … :)

  • @zinetube Perhaps not, but when I drove through Paris in it, with the warm wind in my hair, and had my eyes closed and put my head out the window, I believed that it was.

  • @Barnicklemusic lol I'm glad I have a year to go wish me luch lol

  • @TheJennim GoodLuck :) U will do it fine......

  • @Barnicklemusic LUCKY BITCH LOL

  • Great murky video for this fantastic, creepy song. The fact that Lucy Jordan survives and doesn't become a suicide martyr has even greater impact, and heightens the feeling for her.

  • @alfredhitchcock8 - I always assumed she died and the ending was a sort of afterlife or 'what should have been'.

  • This song is beautifully written and like most great songs it reaches out to listener who in turn can find there own meeting. Marianne here is at her best.

  • Goes straight in to my heart

  • This video is useless, because this song is so intimate that you must listen to it in a complete concentration, especially in a dark room with headphones on.

  • @pepsinthegarden I agree. The video doesn't add much to this song.

  • @pepsinthegarden exactly

  • @pepsinthegarden Thats true!

  • I still love you Marianne, and this great song too!

  • superbe, j'adore ! Que de souvenirs sur ce morceau là.......

séquence nostalgie...... Bonne nuit à tous !

  • TOP SONG;; TOP ARTIST! :D

  • Its sad to know your dreams will never be fulfilled. I used to dream of Rhodesia being recreated. Alas all my friends realised the truth Mick went in77 blew his brains out, Joe drove over a landmine in 78, 'spider' blew his brains out rigged up a shotgun to go off when the cops came for him, sitting there in his dress greens wearing his GSM there was no room for him in the new zimbabwe. I think Ill go sit in daddys eazy chair and dream of better days.

  • @ExRhodesian WAT?

  • @ConnieLynchitz wat, this song is about dreams that will never reach fruition. I had dreams too as a young man now they have turned to dust and Im waiting for that white car to take me away to Salisbury to drive in a sports car with the wind in my hair.Maybe then I will see my former comrades. I hope your dreams arent shattered.

  • @ExRhodesian I know what the fucking song is about. But in the end she does ride through Paris in a sports car. Or is that just a metaphor for suicide?

Either way it is fucking sad. But the WAT was directed at your litany of dead people and circumstances, the vague reference to Rhodesia and a new Zimbabwe. You obviously posted expecting a response, as you have a story to tell.

  • @ConnieLynchitz exactly, she jumps from the building, the song tells us just that, we all have a story to tell and if people listened a bit more maybe there would be less people jumping of buildings or pushing people 0ff,. Man my life sucks you thought she got to drive through Paris literally? Of course maybe she does maybe Elvis is in the back seat. Anyhow I have to run I dont have long left to live. Literally

  • The Dr. Hook version is terrible - no soul unlike this version. I cannot understand who this version was not a monster hit if not a number one.

  • @keith904A no promotion

  • I and she

  • I really really really love her voice.

  • This is the first cd that changed how I viewed music, It is no longer in my possession, as it is now in the hands of my ex girlfriend, I hope one day she will sit and listen to it and feel something of a strange closeness that I shared on many a lonely night. I am about to travel around America, Mexico and Canada at the age of 42, this song will accompany me, this is for all the Lucy Jordans out there who dreamed a dream but never had the chance to live.

  • @PureWhiteGodess I hope "at the age of 42 you are riding in a sportscar with the warm wind in your hair" and someday I can do the same. ;)

  • @lpride1 I've done it in a van and a cortina! Not as romantic as a sports car but....

  • @lpride1 Oh that caught my eye. Which you hoping for, the warm wind or the sportscar there, really?

  • @Metalsalt All of it!

  • @lpride1 I hope with 42 i,m still alive!

  • @forsburgers, i think her years in smoky back rooms reflected in her gravely voice speak to experience and hard times, and i might like the latter better than her sweet innocent voice of the 60s. either way, i think she is phenomenal. heard her at town hall in the 80s, and her voice had already taken on that raw timbre.

  • 1 of my mams tunes must say love it myself,

  • I love her voice, reminds me of Bonnie Tyler.

  • i think this is the one..for my very good friend, leah xxx

  • The best of her Tracks by a long way, thank you Marianne.Thank you too for putting this on Youtube,Murray.

  • THIS IS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!! X

  • A shiver down ya, SOMEONE WAKED ON YA' GRAVE , she give ya' type song beyond wor..rrr

  • I'm too lazy to look, so maybe it's come up, but this song was written by Shel Silverstein; I didn't know he wrote songs, too.

  • @DrylyDroll

Shel Silverstein is the lead singer of Dr Hook :)

  • @BrandyRocks Shel Silverstein was NOT the lead singer of Dr Hook, he wasn't even a member. Shel wrote many of their songs, and occasionally joined them on stage or in the studio. Ray Sawyer and Dennis Locorriere were the main singers, but every member of Dr Hook sang at least one song except for the drummer.

  • does she commit suicide at the end of the song (Lucy not Marianne)

  • @ThePeteerd Probably not autobiographical given that it was written by Dr. Hook, though she certainly makes it sound like her own song. But she does the same for Working Class Hero, which may have been autobiographical for John Lennon but certainly wasn't for her.

  • @francisnorton Technically it was written by Shel Silverstein, who wrote many songs for Dr Hook. His songs have also been recorded by Johnny Cash, Bobby Bare, and Kris Kristopherson, just to name a few.

  • @bmorgan2814 Ah - thanks for the catch! I was more of a music snob in those days and took pride in knowing nothing about Dr Hook - probably took myself (and them) too seriously...

  • Terrific: a sadly forgotten artist...tell your friends about Marianne....they'll thank you if you do.

  • scary I'm 37 tomorrow
