@AnonymoussourceL0L Low revs at speed is why it can get well into the 20's for MPG at speed. You'd never use the top 2 or even 3 gears racing, but for everyday driving, having the extra gears really does help with the MPG on it.
In superbikes that I have ridden with, they will have an extremely tall first gear, in order to have close ratios to keep the engine in the meat of its power, but still allow for a high top speed, since you can only fit so many ratios in a bike. With this application of the 8 speed auto, they can have their cake and eat it too. Tons of torque off the line for the weight, but close ratio spacing in the middle of the 'box, and tall cruise gears
this car can accelerate faster in manual mode with sport mode on and most importantly it only has 1000miles on the clock which means the engine still has room to be broken in... i think best performance comes at 4 to 5k miles and above. Mine is at about 6500 and i know caymandiver75 has one too ;) from the forum...
it tops out in 6th gear, 7th and 8th are for fuel economy. The benefit of the 8 speed is not that you utilize 8 speeds on a full speed run, but that you have low gearing for better acceleration, while still having pretty good fuel economy as per the 7th and 8th gears at highway cruising speeds.
top speed in 6th is electronically limited at 170 mph, unlimited in might go another 10mph, which would be top speed in 7th gear. But to answer your question, at 170 mph at top speed in 6th gear, and then shifting to 8th, most likely it would slow down, albeit slightly. Reasoning is at that speed 8th gear is at around 4500 rpm, which is nowhere near peak horsepower, which doesn't give it the power to keep accelerating. 7th gear would keep accelerating though, as its closer to peak power.
thanks for this info... its a lovely car isf i wish lexus would make a more powerful car.. they are stricktly against supercharging and turbocharging!
@doublexl69 Just live your life without having to fuck off everyone possible, you could've just said 'No, there are actually 8' and that would've been a lot nicer thanks. Plus, I didn't even post this comment, my friend did loll
So let me get this straight...the first gen isf is a TT 5.0 v8 with a 6 speed auto...and the 2nd gen is a 5.0 v8 with an 8 speed auto?>
crzygutrsnobrdr 7 months ago
@crzygutrsnobrdr There was no first gen ISF and it never had a 6 spd auto, has always been 8 spd.

Why didnt you use it on manual mode? Its a LOT faster!
Dani01c 1 year ago
Why does it have 8 if it only gets to about 6? unless you want low revs for cruising but that's all I can think of

It's all about ratio spacing

very intelligent engineering with the transmission. getting the most efficiency from the engine/torque/power

You know you can accelerate faster by putting it in manual mode. Impressive either way.
