  • 2:19 are those WHITE BALLS ?

  • I was for mcenroe all the way but hell of a comeback by jimbo! around 1982 and with borg retired, mcenroe and lendl were expected to dominate tennis. They didn't see him coming. Patti Mcgwire is hot.

  • tennis sucked dick back then.

  • cool vid.

  • I seen this Winbelton on the TV live too

  • Jimbo was a great player, no doubt, but his celebrating gestures are the most annoying in the history

  • He trully was a great player, with perfect accuracy and stamina; but McEnroe certainly remains - along with B. Borg - the game's mastermind among "contemporary" players; let alone the endless variety of shots selected in attacking.

  • great

  • the clash of the lefties!

  • Mcenroe looks like murry

  • haha at first I thought "hmm why don't they have plastic water bottles?" Then I realized plastic didn't exist.

  • WTF?? Plastic didn't exist in 1982?

    How is life on Mars?

  • plastic bottles acctually didnt exist in 1982 so i don't know y ur been sarcastic to that guy for......

    how is life on neptune?.

  • "Plastic bottles were first used commercially in 1947 [3], but remained relatively expensive until the early 1960's when high-density Polyethylene was introduced [4]. They quickly became popular with both manufacturers and customers due to their lightweight nature and relatively low production costs compared with glass bottles [5]. The food industry has almost completely replaced glass in many cases with plastic bottles, but wine and beer are still commonly sold in glass bottles."

  • stream2watch com has a great video

  • It was really funny in this match when McEnroe called the umpire a ''Bald Eagle''!

  • john mcenroe > officials

  • if i were the umpire i would have sucker punched mcenroe and knocked him out. i would have been famous and cheered all over the world. spoil asshole.

  • no you wouldn't you would be the most hated in the world and would have went to jail for a long time for hitting an icon. So yea think about what you say moron

  • mcenroe represents everything that the world world hates about usa. cocky, patronizing etc. the day will come when the world will be able to laugh back at usa. usa is on its way down to 2nd world status.

  • What u talking about??? Just shup up if u have nothing to say good....

  • @sonytennis2009 For your information, John Mcenroe has contributed so much to various charities around the world(large and small) most people would have no concept of this reality. In addition, when Bjorn Borg,Jimmy Connors and others decided to ignore the Davis Cup and play exhibition matches for top dollars, John Mcenroe carried the flag for the Cup and kept the competition alive. No i'm not American, but can tell that you are a sheeplike follower and can't think for yourself!

  • As it turns out, that T-2000 racquet is actually quite heavy to wield.

It looks light because it has a small head.

  • @nabeshabu yeah, the T-2000 was a real bitch to use. It was so small and wired tight that you had be near perfect to use it...

  • @goofydog2 Connors has always used unusual racquets.

I am glad that you got to use the T-2000.

  • @UngratefulSwine Saying I got "to use the T-2000" is an utter kindness, because it played me! Terribly, I might add! The sweet spot is barely bigger than a tennis ball, so you have to be perfectly 'on' to get the ball back with any power. I was NOT able to do that...

  • @goofydog2 That is true. Very few people are able to use that racquet effectively. There is very little room for error. I guess that says a lot about Jimbo's accuracy. :)

  • @UngratefulSwine It was quite scary to fully understand what it took for Conners and all the players to actually do what they did prior to the enlarged racquet-heads of the '80's and beyond. They had virtually NO room for error, whatsoever!!! I recall Jimmy attempting to change over to the larger headed racquets in the early '80's. If I remember correctly, he eventually went back to the T-2000 for another year or two, until he finally put the T-2000 in storage forever or on his wall of fame?

  • That is correct. He used a larger framed racquet in 1984 but went back to the T-2000 in '85 and '86.

    "T-2000"... sounds like a Terminator :D

I enjoyed that period in 1982-83 when he regained the #1 ranking. That was even predicted in 1981 in a French tennis magazine.

  • I felt sorry for Connors's humiliation at Wimbledon in 1984. I did not see that match until much later. He was using the T-2000 for that match.

He switched to a more modern racquet for the remainder of that year, if I recall.

McEnroe was near invincible in 1984. He only lost 3 matches.

  • John ran his foul mouth off here in a Sacramento exhibition. I mean, he was like 53 and he still didn't care if there were children in the audience. The entire arena wanted nothing but a DISQUALIFICATION for John and were very upset that the umpire allowed the game to continue. ...I got to see him against Conners here in a late 80's exhibition, Jimbo won! It was a terrific match. One of the best Conners/McEnroe match I saw was right after the 84 slaughter at Wim. Mac was absolutely brilliant!

  • The British broadcasters and the American ones had the equal touch and understanding of this match with their accurate commentary.

BTW, I was happy that Connors won this match.

  • I think that's a wee bit harsh. He was a truly great player and a very intense young man. The two things went together.

I for one feel very privileged to have seen this extraordinary, unique champion in action, regardless of his (entirely forgivable) youthful temper.

If you really do love sport - and tennis particularly - then you should too.

  • John McEnroe and his embarrassing displays of little class was, and continues to be, an embarrassment to this American, to this day.

  • Jimmy Connors was hardly a paragon of decorum, either. Mind you, Sampras was. But no showmen he.

But I still think Mcenroe was a great champion, even if he was a pain in the neck. He wasn't trying to make friends in that aim.

I guess you're proof he succeeded.

  • John McEnroe made Jimmy Connors an altarboy in comparison. I don't care if he wasn't "trying to make friends" or not. He has learned, only later in life, about sportmanship. True champions of any sport are sportsmen, first and last.

  • Fair points, dlpine (well made, too ;)

I'm not condoning Mcenroe's behaviour although I appreciate it might appear that I might be in some way. But if I shouldn't admire his lack of sportsmanship, I can still admire his art - especially from a distance of 25 years!

I will say that I totally agree with your final sentiment, upon reflection. It's what I hope my children have learned, about sport and about life, after all.

    Stay well, sir.

  • haha mcenroe is fucking brilliant!

  • On the other hand, at least he spoke his mind, and didn't try to fake being a nice guy or fake a sense of humility. One thing about McEnroe is that he doesn't pull any punches, so you always know where you stand with him. He won't blow sunshine up your skirt, and some people respect that. He's kind of like Simon Cowell. You can call him an a**hole, but at least you know he's being honest with you, even if he's just giving you his opinion.

  • So happy Connors won, he reminds me of me, and McEnroe as one of my temperment tennis friends.

  • mcenroe looks like andy murray here

  • Jimmy Connors is my favourite player ever too. What a fighter. I also love Agassi and Andy Murray. They all have a street slugger type of gritty intensity and touches of real genius.

  • Well put. That so true. :)

  • What a cool match. I really like the tension that McEnroe builds up in all his games. But Jimmy is my favorite tennis player ever! And I just love his emotions he brings to the court. It makes it so interesting to watch and see what he's going to do next. :)

  • ahahaha one of the related videos is a horny girl striptease

  • Both of them would have to be very thankful that Borg has decided to retire so soon !!! otherwise they had not faced up in the final match !!!

  • After his retire Borg´s competitivines and fierceness was gone. He became almost a coward when lost his No.1 position. I have to be totally disagree with you.

  • The quality of this video is great. I remember watching this live, and it was a great 4th and 5th sets. But the first 3 sets were really kind of off for these two. That sometimes happened when they played each other, their games tended to bother each other enough so that the quality of their tennis took a while to build. still a hell of a match, and a great win for Jimbo.

  • Thank you! Yeah! :D

  • hey anyone know what does Jimmy's racket made out off? It looks shiny

  • Conners played with a Wilson T2000 steel racket, even aftere Wilson quit making them. God knows why.

  • i played with a t2000 the other day and there suprisingly good raquets considering their design

  • Because it was the coolest racket ever built. It might not be a good one, but it sure feels and looks good.

  • Steel.

  • steel

  • Jimmy's racket is a Wilson T-2000. I still have one in my basement, just like many others do.

  • I bought two of them back in the mid eighties for 25 pounds each they were reduced in price because the big head racket was taking over from small head rackets, i was only 15 at the time I played with them for about a month but had to get a new big head racket because they were too heavy and i played crap with them but no one played more better with them than Jimmy Connors they were like a magic wand in his hands.

  • Jimmy etait le plus attachant, le plus intense joueur de tennis de l histoire. Il nous manque à tous. Quels merveilleux souvenirs.

  • That is not entirely true. In the DC-finals of 84 he was a big asshole and throughout his career he didn't earn the same respect from his competitors as Mac and Borg did. But nevertheless I'm a big Jimbo-fan. Saw him live, winning a match as late as in 91. Thanks for the vid.

  • I can agree with you there, but then again, aren't they all a bunch of prima donnas to a degree. I even saw Borg argue once or twice. You do have to admit, he wasn't as bad after he embraced parenthood.

  • Cant disagree with your there. Speaking of Borg - it's hard to believe he (as well as Federer!) was a pain in the ass as a junior player.

  • They all mature eventually, EVEN NASTASE!

  • Once Connors became a father, he settled down and became a fan favorite. He stopped being a bad boy of tennis. The US Open accepted him after 78 when he said, "You may not always like me, but I like you," and after this he won the whole tennis world over.

  • Jimmy was my favorite. I miss him around the game. He was so intense. This was a great nostalgic vid.

  • definetly some derry mucker

"Mon Jimmy Ye Can do it!"

  • Mcenroe when he was young kind of looks like Prince Harry.

  • spectacular athletes both of them

  • jimbo.i was ten when this happened.we played in the street,my mum a huge tennis nut cheered jimbo,i cheered mac.what a final....got a lump in me throat just seeing this

  • I already worshipped Mac at that time, but he was so young, he had so much time, and Jimmy was usually stuck to semi-finals since around 1978... I was clearly for Jimbo that day, I was hysterical when he took the lead and cried when he won. Great memories, great champions.

  • go on jimbo

  • Where have all the the characters gone? I used to play like Connors but with Mac's temperament.

  • mcEnroe the best all history

  • I think so too.

    Great racquet control.

  • Although I did want Jimmy Connors to win this one.

  • hahahaha.

    Except Federer

  • I remember both the American and British commentators saying to this effect : "Jimmy Connors will be serving for the match!"

That was my favourite Connors victory.
