Watch the gain on these mics! They go into digital clipping (harsh quantization grit on your higher frequencies and sibilant sounds like "s") very quickly and you have no meter on the mic to tell you you are clipping. I suggest keep the gain low to normal on the mic and turn up the gain on your recording software for best quality and smoothness. I can hear it a bit even on your test when you get louder.
hi, im tryin to record my own songs at home.. is this a good microphone to start? I also want to start my own blog.. which , microphone you think will work for me?
most people haven't heard "real' music before, so they assume that digital is better than analog, analog doesn't improve or dictate audio, you get the raw feeling of the environment that it was originally played in, a really good phonograph (record player) will trump anycd or mp3 player when playing authentic music from actual instruments..... oh yeah, cool vid.....
I just bought my Yeti Pro microphone, but the sensitivity kinda sucks even with the gain and the recording volumes are maxed out. Is there a way to fix that?
i will say this though, i hear a slight echo on the yeti while watching your movie that wasnt present on the previous. is that a setting? is that normal?
lmao i just had to login just to let you know youre hilarious. there are not many people i like, and especially find funny, but i was watching this whole review with a smirk on my face, but when i heard
"ooh candy, i love it when they include candy, ill save that for later"
@CptnButtBeard I hope your not trying to tell me to compare svga vs hdmi. hdmi wins hands down. but different formats of information are debatable in the analog vs digital debate, for example in cameras digital is way less time consuming and cheaper, but film (analog) is better quality. With audio, the cons of analog are obvious.. clipping of audio, and the interference caused by a lot of other wires and signals. This is why Blue included both on this microphone, for the ease of digital.
well here i'm again this two mic Zoom H2 and H1 they audio record in high quality recording inside themselves by SDcard and they record mp3 at 320 quality max and lower and wawe 96 HZ max so DAT quality and more and the H1 works with only one alcaline AA battery and you can record 12 hours and the H2 works with 2 alcaline AA battery the H1 has many button outside so there is not a weird menu andfor this it is very friendly you can skip from wawe to mp3 by pressing a button and the H2 has a menu
I liked to listen you and if you are closed to a computer yeti pro is a great solution but you never thought about recording good audio far away from a computer and you don't want to use a long cable or may be a very long cable could not be enough sometimes because computer is not around so closed at all so may I suggest you this two mics I bought and I find great and they are Zoom H1 handy recorder the chipper one but very easy to be esed and the Zoom H2 Handy recorder I explain next post
I know it was probably a joke, and younger persons might be tired of hearing this already since there's a chance that their mothers often use to say that but anyway:
when im recording my voice in audacity with blue snowball, my voice is so low that i can barely hear it. but when im on skype, it is good... why cant i record good sound with fraps, audacity and many other recording programs??? please help me!
Do you have usb 3.0 or 2.0 on your computer? btw I'm trying to get my comp to recognize my blue yeti, i bought the pro model and I can't seem to connect it to my comp it keeps saying it failed to install properly when i plugged it in. Also when i plug my headphones into the mic itself and turn up the volume i can hear myself. what am i doing wrong? please recommend me a solution.
This is great :D i just ordered one of the regular mics today and Im so excited to start recording my guitar covers on it! :D one question though... I want to layer different sounds (guitar, vocals, beats) to make one entire cover. Whats a good program to use?
i would just like to say that the original yeti has a builtg in analoge to digital converter so it essentially the same as using the pro and converting it to digital
The XLR on the bottom is XLR 5, it is normally used in DMX lighting system but there are also a lot of audio applications for it! The other XLR is XLR 3 and normally used in audio! Just a tip if you want Mono XLR you should plug it into the White (left channel) not the red (right channel).
P.S. If you eat that candy you might just send yourself to hospital and even die!
I use the Yeti for my acoustic guitar and singing. I use the stereo mode and play totally unpugged. I like the stereo mode for play back on my home stereo speakers. The sound is so good that it looks overdubed, but it is all one take recordings with webcam and yeti. Please check out my channel for the stereo sound, and I encourage that you use headphones or high quality audio.
@mraaronyuppy I haven't got either yet but thinking about it but seeing some comments I would say get the yeti if it's just a hobby there is no need to pay an extra 100 for a pro version unless you really want to but I doubt there be any changed in the voice.
i'm kind of a classical singer, not prof or something but I just love to sing classical songs, not opera btw, just music like "the prayer and that kind of stuff " but is the Blue Jeti Pro a good usb mic for singing that kind of songs ?
Hi this is a great video. Thank you so much. I am having such a hard time with my yeti so far. I record videos on youtube and for our wedding my husband got me the yeti pro for recording and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have gone through the manual and I usually record through imovie but there is crackling that I am experiencing. I have tried messing around with the input but I don't know enough to troubleshoot on my own. I have tried looking online but a lot of people experiencing
i wud be interested to see you recording some music using the yeti pro. like a acoustic guitar or just about anything that the yeti can handle... nice review n thanks!
would this mic be able to use for gaming? for example ps3 and or xbox360?? I know the previous Yeti doesn't work but if they have make Yeti compatible with gaming system that would be awesome.
FYI, everybody: This microphone does the job of several other specialty microphones. That's why the price is higher. Stereo is something many of you apparently don't understand; stereo is the way you hear things in real life. Just about ANY commercial or professional audio or video product will be produced in stereo, which is why they sound as they do. They sound like what your ears expect.
BUT, the Yeti Pro doesn't stop there; it also has omni-direction and bipolar patterns.
Just because it's digital doesn't mean it's good quality, and the same holds true for analog. One thing has nothing to do with the other. The quality of USB digital audio vs. XLR analog audio is only related to the quality of the microphone itself, rather than digital vs. analog. The end result will be digital, regardless.
Do you own the old yeti? One review said the original had knobs that wobbled a little, wondering how firm all the cobtrols feel on the pro? Great video!
So the microphone quality in the pro yeti is exactly the same as the previous version?
I want to get the Yeti pro if the quality is better but if its the same as the other Yeti microphone I might just buy the Yeti. I don't think I'll be needed the benefits of the pro version. Nice video by the way.
@RuinedApple There is an improvement (or so the company says), but whether that improvement is noticeable enough to raise the price $100 is another story. I'd say, if you're going to be using the microphone for professional work, it'd be safe to go with the pro. If the mic is going to be for casual/hobby use, go for the regular Yeti.
how far away can you be from the microphone and still have the audio picked up well? can you have the yeti pro on a table a meter away from you and still sound like your right next to the microphone? can you adjust how sensitive it is when it picks up audio?
@AussieRoadTripper I'd say about 5 feet max, but I wouldn't be surprised if some have gotten it to work with a further distance. Ideally, this should be used for desk work, such as voice overs, video calls, quick recordings and music; things that are all within close distance. Speaking of music, instruments are usually louder than vocals, so it's really easy to record a group of people playing music.
@Schindler78 You've got some sharp ears! I recorded with Garageband and, being a bit clumsy, didn't make sure all effects were off. And so the 'Male Vocals' effect (which automatically opened for vocal recording with Garageband) stuck and by the time I realized it, it was too late to correct. Imagine the audio without any reverb and that's what the Yeti's quality is like (assuming you've got a good imagination). ;)
@TheSwampShinobi Actually, you can. You'll need either a mini to mini or an XLR to mini cable to shoot the audio from the headphones jack to the camera. It doesn't come out with the best quality though. I recorded into Garageband and sync'd it up in Final Cut.
@TheKyle0430 There are several ways you can do it, such as mic to camera, mic to mixer to camera, mic to mixer to computer, or mic to computer. Anything that leads to the camera will automatically be recorded in sync, but if the audio is recorder into a computer, you'll have to sync the audio with the video in your video editing software. I recorded audio to computer using my Mac's Garageband program, exported the audio and synced it up in Final Cut. You need specific cables for mic to camera.

For whatever reason I can't get it to set up in my logic though.
