This is absolutely marvelous. I'm so happy that they played the full song. What kind of suit is he wearing, though? Is that the reason why he's not a fried crisp on the ground? :D
...This makes me want Tesla coils now by the way XD
@CrystalChord2010 It looks like he's wearing a full-body Faraday cage. He's definitely wearing one on his head. Electric charge moves to the exterior surface of a conductor, so yeah--that's the reason he's not hurting.
Yeah, it's like a wearable Faraday Box. He's got a rubber suit underneath and the chain suit hes got on touches ground. The electricity just flows right through the suit and dissipates into the floor
I love the fact that they did the whole song, and knew that the people who'd likely be wanting to see singing lightning bolts would recognise the classic Doctor Who theme!
@thelightguy1 I think he would be suitably impressed, he saw the future of the world in electricity. He made a display at the world fair hes not above public displays using electricity to awe people.
Awesome. Especially considering the story of the original electronic arrangement. Love the guy in the chain mail suit - truly sci-fi looking to have lightning bolts shooting out of his fingers, just to make music!
I think a variation of the original Darbyshire arrangement, with minimal accompanyment would have been better. The disco beat kinda sucks and distracts from the sound from the zaps.
Tee hee, thanks for the kind words! I ended up stopping at a Master's degree so I don't qualify for the Dr. title unless I maybe adopt super villian status. Hmmm...
Solid state coils quite literally rock :-D

I wonder how long it will take for him to be sunburned in the face or get corneal burns from all the UV.
He's probably breathing in a whole lot of ozone and nitrogen oxides too.

This was nothing short of amazing.
What was the music though? I recognise the modern Dr Who theme, but not the rest. It sounds a bit like Chariots of Fire...

it was all doctor who
samm0905 2 years ago
It's actually all Doctor Who. The part you say is like "Chariots of Fire" is the seldom-heard B section of the theme.

If Nicola Tesla were around to witness this, I am not sure how he would react.

he would stare for a few minutes, then think.... how to use it 'practically'....

It is my hope that somewhere, Tesla is looking down at us with a grin. I think that the performer in him would approve.
