hey, i just wanted to say thanks very much for the tutorial! I made it the way you done here but with redbrick and then used double slab for the inner highlights and also inside of the tower i used one fence post 2 gold blocks to make it look there was a church bell inside + with the new updates an enchantment table in the middle looks awesome ^^

James i don't mean to be mean or anything, but you don't explain it very well on how far apart the blocks are for the base. You are flying around kind of high, and its hard to tell how far apart they are, and if you would stop every once and awhile and show what is looks like, that would be very helpful too. Again I'm sorry and i don't mean to be mean, I'm just trying to give you some tips.

Im not too sure about this but i think if the "body bag room" is under the church/cathedral it is a krypt but if it is outside in its own seperate building it is a mausaleum(probably spelt wrong) not too sure but you know.

for the crypt you could use redstone torch its darker and red so also a bit "scary"

i built my altar in the church with two iron blocks on the outside and one red wool in the middle and then just the torches and pressure plate, it looks good like a blanket on the altar

For the altar you could put a lever pointing to the middle for the microphone that they sometimes use

I was going to build a church in survival mode. Problem is, making stone, stone half blocks, and stone halfblock full blocks is quite bothersome. Is there a block that looks similar but easier to obtain in the regular texture?

@HHardC0D there are plenty of texture pack editing tutorials out there, but basically you just extract the texture packs somewhere, then open the terrain.png of both my, and john smiths texture packs in something like photoshop or paint.net. and select the bits you wana copy with the normal selection tool and copy them across to the other one... then when you save it make sure you dont change the name and save as a .PNG... then when you send that whole file to a .zip it will work =]

brillaint church, but, with that crypt thing, u know those other little buildings that u woould find in a graveyard with the big stone doors and it leads into the crypt, could u show us how to make one of them, they are like the size of a small bathroom and there only purpose is to house a staircase leading downwards
