@LewyAlsoDraws nope! it's by J.S. Bach and he's been dead for a while. the music is in the "public domain" meaning no one has any legal claim on it. feel free to use it anywhere for anything!
much better on a piano, rather than a harpsichord or a violin. Wasn't intended for it, but it sounds best on piano. I'm sure Bach would have agreed. If only he had the technology.
@annonymousmaniaciii This is not true. The song that has been sent by NASA is a Bulgarian Folk song. It's name is Излел е Дельо Хайдутин and it is performed by a Bulgarian singer called Valya Balkanska. You should double-check when you write such stuff. :)
This video shows very well how Bach has to be played: not very importance given to the speed, but a very strict and quite scientific rigour. I suggest to hear it to all young players and to consider it as a manifesto of the good studying of this wonderful musician. Very good the way to bring out the four voices in the fugue.
This song was chosen from a select few to represent the human race when NASA launched a satellite beyond our solar system with this song encrypted into it. Deep.
I played this piece as one of two contrasting ones for my piano exam. The music seems so simple, but it's really the emotion and also regularity of the piece that is hard to master.
@SkyHighVB8 I doubt you can master anything at the age of 9. If you record when playing and send it to some PRO, he would still say; You still have a lot to learn...
now the Truth shines on---Matthew Fisher, Repent Walpurgis !!! get in touch if you wish to wander through the garden fence!! (I have intentionally not put forth the name of the group that had this as their 1st album Finale-1967) saltydog321
@TheMentalistin not even close. this song its 400 years old... maybe the writers took clips of this beautiful piece and used it, but that is not where it originated..
This is the best version I have heard - so many pianists play the prelude too fast.
People today say 'Bach is boring' because they don't know any better. There is nothing more to it than that; if they analysed their music properly compared to Bach then they would soon relaise they had been listening to crap and come round to real composers.
We spent two weeks analyzing the prelude portion in my high school theory class. I was completely enraptured by the simultaneous simplicity and complexity of the work. It sounds like a never-ending melody.
I find it so hard to believe that people say that Bach is boring. How can music so beautiful POSSIBLY bore anyone?
Bach's music isn't just music; it's life. Thank you so much for the high-quality recording!
did i really take you two weeks? i mean some of the chords are a bit weird to figure out because of the passing tones but other than that the harmonic analysis is cake (unless you're a beginner in harmony)
@4hm3dimr4n The main reason why it took so long was because we had not yet learned about function chords and key changes, and also because our instructor would leave the work alone for a few days to focus on ear training and creating our own melodies. The two weeks of time include those days. Once we actually understood function and changing keys, it didn't take that long.
@MysticDestroyer13 We could write a manifesto against 'popular' music and expose its harmonic weaknesses.
ALL pop music is based around the chords I, IV, V and VI, to sue their numerical designations. Different keys, but the same four chords. Harmony is not important in pop music. There is no balance, no counterpoint - it's just plain awful. on my channel I've given a fuller explanation of this.
Pop, rock, rap etc is the sort of music Beethoven dismissed as 'cobbler's patch' .
@PhysicalsimForever You're an idiot who hasn't the faintest idea what you are talking about. Here's a hint, actually learn about something before you go spouting your useless drivel.
i dont see how its difficult to believe, i mean we live in a time where music is completely disposable and songs are replaced as soon as something else comes out, if it doesnt have catchy overused and simple tunes and has no lyrics about getting drunk, getting dumped or getting drunk because you got dumped then people dont want to kno
@mambomeek I guess that satisfies most people, but not me. They can keep their Beyonce and Lady Gaga. I'll stick to Bach, Beethoven, and all the rest.
@mambomeek I believe even in those times there were a lot of terrible violin players who created catchy tunes.. but as you can see those haven't lasted throughout the times - only the great stuff does.
@MysticDestroyer13 I believe that music especially the best music is a complete product of intuition. Whatever force that compels people to spend time on something like music to try and perfect it in so much as they can is to a great extent involuntary. About people finding music boring the best way to deal with that is to keep listening I think. Music for me is rooted in memory so when I hear music I tend to access my memory, which is visual--a bit odd I think. Music is life I agree, it is mine
@wcjones451 when people say that God created it, we aren't trying to discredit the composer at all. we are simply acknowledging the fact that God created Bach's brain through which this music was imagined.
@vichogran355 discreting? im sorry i know what you're trying to say. Bach's mother did not create Bach or construct his mind personally and plan every corridor of his imagination. she just bore him.
@unoriginal345 with this code (BWV) have cataloged all the works of Bach. It stands for "Bach Werke Verzeichnis" and means "directory of the works of Bach".
I was needing a music piece idea for a short story and at the time the only composer I could think of was Bach. So I asked a friend for ideas and they suggested this piece. @TheLuaron ... I agree... Bach's face SHOULD be on a monetary note. However, he was born in Eisenach, Germany, so to be on a dollar bill would be a bit ironic, don't you think? And since the Deutsche mark went the way of the Euro, I don't think he'd be too pleased to be on that, either. ;)

@kickalion You do realize that fame is not an indicator of quality, right? Bach himself wasn't particularly famous until near a century after his death. Mahler's work went unappreciated for decades.
