  • Proof, if any more were needed, that I was born into the wrong generation.

  • @OfTheTreeFolk There sure was some great music - but isn't it great to hear a lot of here on yt ? This is from one of my favorite Doris Day albums - Show Time. So happy you enjoyed !!

  • the first time i heard this i was watching the movie annie oakley :D

  • @NIghtRider805 Yes... its from that musical. Great song ... happy you enjoyed !

  • @deanoi5 So happy you enjoyed !! =)

  • You are right DAY. I still have a great memory picture of her and Les Brown. I have been thrilled by her movies and tv appearances and she is still a KNOCKOUT. Tnx

  • @NanBayKid1 She's a special lady. Beautiful on the inside and out !!

  • I saw her live with Les Brown on her first visit back to Cincy, in the mid 40`s. It was at the old CASTLE FARMS. Been lovin her ever since.

  • @NanBayKid1 Oh WOW ... that must have been fantastic ! I can only imagine. What a memory !!

  • Now she was a lady.....She was stunning, with a great voice and class.....a thing you find so rarely these days

  • @Mimifarrell77 She certainly is a wonderful lady ... definitely a talented, classy, caring one ! Too bad we don't have more like her today .. but, she's a hard act to follow !

  • I've been trying to expose some friends to quality music. Thanks for posting this, made it a lot easier.

  • Wow Some loser clicked the wrong button ... wow

  • @Crazyfan610 Awww... well ... they just don't know whats good ... like we do !! lol Happy you enoyed !

  • @Crazyfan610 Why call someone who disagrees and has different tastes a loser? Kinda negative don't you think? Defeats the theme of this great song.

  • @blueberries4ever dude i was kidding ... have some sense of humour huh

  • thanks for uploading :)

  • @LisaGaladriell Thanks for watching ... I'm happy you enjoyed this great song from Doris !!

  • I do like songs about people who can lose everything material....and still rejoice in being alive. From Killing Joke's "Struggle" to Doris doing this...food, family, friendship and fresh air.... and decent toilet paper does a good life make!

  • @Loobs666 hahaha .. I love it. You are so right ! I do like these songs .. kind of remind you to keep it all in perspective !

  • Where did you get the high quality versions?

  • @ihahahayou I have the Bear Family sets - they're really great.

  • What a great song by a great singer. Thanks for posting.

  • @62grossman She gives us one of the best versions of this great song ... so happy you enjoyed it !!

  • She had a show in the late 1960s and the Dukes of Hazzard's Uncle Jessie was in it, too.

  • I love finding an old song as my New Favorite Song. @Dayniac4324..Love this thank you!!!!

  • @EyraManet This is one of my all time favorites also. When I was about 10, I used to drive my parents crazy listening to this album. Love every song on it. So happy you enjoyed too ... it is a great one from Doris !!

  • Doris Rocks! Thank you so much for sharing.....:)

  • @EyraManet Thank you ... so happy you enjoyed this great song from Doris !

  • Who did this first? Betty or Doris?

  • @BSBrando Betty in the 1950 movie version of Annie Get Your Gun. This is from Doris' 1960 Show Time album.

  • @Dayniac4324 Thanks! Its weird, I just watched Annie Get Your Gun last week, and I don't remember this song being in it haha

  • @BSBrando Well... I haven't seen the movie for years.. but I know this song is from that musical ... now maybe it wasn't in the movie. It's definitely from the stage musical though. I need to see that movie again ! I know that Doris and Robert Goulet recorded an album with all the tunes from the musical .. this was on that album also. But its quite different - she does it in character.

You really have me wondering - if this is in the movie !! lol

  • @Dayniac4324 Oh it probably is! I am pretty forgetful

  • @BSBrando lol..... me too ! and it only gets worse the older i get !!

  • Terrific song Toni, great brassy backing, and great sentiment too... the sun and the moon, we should all be grateful... lovely pics, and like your transitions too - they work really well... many stars my friend... manfread, xoxo

  • @manfreadstraw Thank you ... this is one of my most favorite songs. I listened to the Show Time album when I was a kid and knew every word of every song ... love it ! Thank you .... you're the best !! hugs... Toni

  • Love this song, love Doris Day! Thanks for this.

  • @gypcnme Thank you !! I'm really happy you enjoyed !

  • A Great song thats me everything she sang is me love Shirls xx

  • @shirls2 I know that feeling !! Love it all ... thanks .. happy you enjoyed !

  • I am a lucky girl

got the sun in the morning

and got the moon at night !!!

BEAUTIFUL JUST LIKE DORIS DAY AND SUNSHINE OF LIFE !!!

  • Agree .... this is one of my favorite songs .. and Doris does it beautifully.

    So happy you enjoyed !!

    Thanks !

  • anyone know where to see this movie online?

  • With Doris singing - its not in a movie. It's on her Show Time album.

Its from the show - Annie Get Your Gun. It's probably in the Betty Hutton - Howard Keel movie from the 50's.

  • yea i know i wanted to know if anyone knew where to find annie get your gun online

  • Oh -- sorry --- I'm not sure about that !!

  • @Dayniac4324 I am sur that it isthe Betty Hutton - Howard Keel movie from the 50's.

and I am shure because I have on 12 april my 85 birdday

  • @40oldshatterhand It's from the musical Annie Get Your Gun, written by Irving Berlin. And yes, Hutton and Keel starred in the movie. This recording is from Doris' album - Show Time. Hope you have a great birthday !

  • I just love this!

What album did you get it from? It is slower than other versions I've heard and I think I prefer it this way.

  • @madeyemolly This is my all time favorite album. I started listening to my moms record when I was 10 ! Its from her Show Time album. It has many great songs on it. Thanks.. happy you enjoyed !

  • @madeyemolly: On the Annie Get Your Gun album Doris made with Robert Goulet, she sings this song faster. It's also a great performance though I like this one better.

  • @rioamigo I think she is really in character on that album. She sings this in an entirely different style. It just makes me think how wonderful she would have been on the stage - Broadway perhaps. Too bad she hated singing before an audience - I think she would have been an amazing presence onstage.

  • @Dayniac4324 : I understand that her aversion to singing in public dates from the time she made YOUNG MAN WITH A HORN...which gave her unhappy memories of her big band days and her psychopathic first husband.

  • @rioamigo Not sure about that. I just listened to an interview with Doris - she talks about her first time singing in public when she was 6 years old - she had to wait a long time and wet her pants - she says maybe that started her aversion to singing in public. That could do it ! Who knows....but its a shame she disliked it so much. Thank goodness we have her recordings !

  • There is no way not to look at Doris Day and not get perked up! What an angelic voice and such a "toots"! My God she was just the perfect blonde that just exuded health and beauty in the 50s and 60s. Too bad her husband miss- managed her for years and drove her into near bankruptcy. Blessed with so much Grace and Beauty, a yet a victim of those who would take advantage of her. Of course there was also the tragic loss of her son. Today she's pushing 80 something and living a reclusive life.

  • She usually brightens my mood...thats for sure ! As her friend, Jackie Joseph, said - she was victimized but she is not a victim.

She doesn't allow herself to be a victim. Thanks to her husband and lawyer - She was not only broke but owed the govt. back taxes. She did win the largest settlement in CA. at that time. But only received a small portion of it.

  • Today she is living in Carmel - she's 85 or 87 depending on which birth yr. you go with. There have been tabloid stories that she's a recluse - from what I know - that is not true. I think she's sued over some of these stories. On magic63's radio birthday program last year she sounded terrific ..even sang a little. She was talking about the repairs she was doing on her home which I've seen have been in the tabloids lately ..claiming her home is falling down .. not true again !!

  • I think we have to look at all the stories in these tabloids and really wonder if any of them are true. She's living a nice life in Carmel - and seems to be doing very well.

I wrote her recently and just received a card from her....she seems perfectly fine to me ! I hope she's happy - I think you're right - the loss of her son Terry was very difficult - as it would be for any of us. I hope she's happy ... she deserves to be !

Thanks... happy you enjoyed this great song from Doris !!

  • I Love Doris Day!!

  • ME TOO !!!! She's the best !!

  • She is a beautiful young lady. Had a magnificent voice too!!!!!!

  • She's definitely a lovely talented lady !

Thanks - happy you enjoyed !

  • I think her hair looked the cutest in the 50's - short - like in the Pajama Game :) But she would look good any which way of course....

  • Well - I agree with you. To me she was at her best in the mid to late 50's....but then again I love the early 60's too !! So maybe i should say 55 to 64. That kind of takes in a lot of different looks though. Ok - that was pretty confusing !! lol

I like the way she looks most any old time and especially the way she sounds.

Thanks -- happy you enjoyed !

  • I had to sing this last week at a performance and I use this because I never heard this song before... this really helped! Thanks for posting! I love her version! (:

  • I love her version also - one of my favorite albums too. I bet you had fun singing this great tune !!

  • I miss Doris Day. She was truly a class act. Although this arrangement is slowed down, it is imprinted with Doris' style. Sweet.

  • She truely is a class act - you are so right !

I really love this arrangement - but maybe thats because this was my favorite album ( Showtime ) when I was 10 !! lol

Thanks -- so glad you enjoyed !!

  • @mommazcookin Miss her? She's still alive and well, at least as of this writing.

Google this for the audio recording of an hour interview she just did with WNYC Radio music host Jonathan Schwartz:

"Doris Day Opens Up About Her Career and Losing South Pacific Film Role"

  • @madamerotten Didn't she sound wonderful in the interview ?? It was so much fun hearing her again. There's usually an April birthday radio tribute that she calls into. She also has a new website that has a recorded message from her .. dorisdaydotcom. Its mainly about her work with animals but has some info about her too. And a few pictures I had never seen.

  • @Dayniac4324 Doris is one of my most favorite people in the whole world! She is so forthright and honest, and above all, caring.

  • @madamerotten Wow... you said it ! That really describes her ... and thats what I love about her too !!

  • I love it! And, the tempo!

  • I love it too - I've listened to the Showtime album since I was 10. My favorite DD album. Glad you enjoyed it !!

  • i like it but the slower version is kinda annoying but i luv it

  • This arrangement is much, much, too slow, for me at least. I have always preferred this as an up-tempto number.

  • I have to say I love this one !!

  • I love this version, myself, but the version she sings on the "Annie Get Your Gun" album is much faster, and Doris is just as persuasive....although the moods of the two performances are completely different. Hooray for such versatility!

  • I love this version too. I grew up with the Showtime album - so love most the songs on it.

With the Annie Get Your Gun album - to me, she's really "in character". Very different feeling - more in tune with playing the part in the play.

On the Showtime album she does show tunes but not necessarily as they would have been sung in the musicals they came from. She does her own take on them. She does a fantastic version of People Will Say We're In Love.

    Ok - I love the album !!

    Thanks !!

  • YES! 6 of her performances on SHOW TIME go on my 100 Best Performances list. It's an amazing album!

  • Well - I don't know which ones you would choose - but - I LOVE this album. My mom had it and I started listening to it when I was about 9. And I still love it !

(and that's a long time to listen to it !! lol)

  • In order of appearance on the album: I've Got The Sun In The Morning; I Love Paris (which Cole Porter, himself, lauded): People Will Say We're In Love; They Say It's Wonderful; A Wonderful Guy (which Richard Rodgers, himself, lauded; and On The Street Where You Live.

  • I've read that Porter and Rodgers thought her versions were wonderful. I really love People Will Say We're in Love, I've Got The Sun In The Morning and They Say It's Wonderful. Her version of I've Grown Accustomed To His Face is fabulous too.I think those four are my favorites - but the other ones you listed are great too. It really is a solid album - every song is a gem. I think she would have been spectaclar on Broadway. Too bad that never happened.

  • she sang this song back in 1946 for Les Brown and his Orchestra when she used to sing for him. It made the pop charts hitting #10

  • You are so right. I grew up listening to this version and its always been one of my favorites !

  • Does anyone know which dogs are shown in which pictures on this video (individual names, not breeds)?

  • I'm afraid I don't know their names. Sorry !!

  • I'm working on this song with my voice teacher. Doris Day has a fabulous voice! Thanks for posting!
