Exactly @tdickin - raising awareness of these issues doesn't exclude awareness of related concerns, but rather encourages further discussions and dialogue as a result. I think you'll also find that 'feminist issues' actually comprise concerns surrounding all violence, not just violence directed at women. Did you attend this march @MattHXIV? If you'd spoken to any of the people marching, they could have eloquently and passionately explained how this kind of activism has a ripple effect.
That doesn't make sense @MattHXIV. If you can't protest, or exercise activism, on a specific issue, where does it end? If you have to lump together all related issues every message will be the same and it'll be too broad to do something about. Bringing attention to violence against women in no way diminishes the problem of violence against children. Organize a march for that and I bet thousands of people will come out, too.
@MattHXIV One issue or another does not negate the other issue from not being raised. Also it is not to say women are "always" the victims but that there are victimized and unfairly treated women out there. You don't say we should not raise issues about animal abuse because they are Palestinians being illegally cut off for example or that animals are "always" the victims. It's a pointless straw man argument you are using.
You're so welcome, I thoroughly enjoyed making it. Please share with whoever you can, it's the least we can do to document important occasions like this.

@MattHXIV That's what the march is about Matt, to raise the profile of those issues...

@warriorgrrltv but making it a feminist issue ignores that fact that its not just women suffering

@MattHXIV This march is specifically for feminist issues - rather than a march against all sorts of violence.

@warriorgrrltv but why do that? so suffering children are ignored because women are always the victims?

I was there and it was amazing. This is the best personal video of the 2009 march I've seen so far. Inspiring stuff. Thank you. :)
