@surrealIdeal Thanks. i had a basic chord progression idea but the piece is improvisational. It's the kind of thing that can happen when the harp player and the guitarist are intimate friends!
Jon, Very very nice! You play with yourself so well! And, of course, that is safe. Thank you again for showing your students how it CAN be done. VERY inspirational!
Thanks for the feedback Jon.I am slapping my tongue on the roof of my mouth behind my teeth and it sounds like a ta ta sound.Should i be using my tongue further back in my mouth to get the ka sound(the clicking sound)Really couldn't stand wasting my practice time. Thanks again Jon.
Hey thanks--the control comes from my "clicking" technique, like saying "ka." Most harp players play from lips and use too much air. If you aren't practicing the "click", I am not sure you will reach your goals. Practicing wrong is worse than not practicing. So practice your click! Many thanks! Jon
Hehehe, so thats the secret of your playing then, and I thought you where making that vibratto sound from your diafram, thank's for letting me in on the secret Jon, I'm going to get some gunk in my holes now..
I deliberately customize (Gindickize) them that way. Takes months of playing and lots of coffee to give them the character they need. My "curing" room is the floor of my car, with the good ones crushed behind the seat. My vibratto is actually the result of microscopic cracker crumbs flying out of the holes.
Once again...nice jazzy playing there! With so many harpsters playing straight Blues, I would love to learn more of this. I could see playing this at a nice venue, resturant, etc. What key harp are you playing? And do you have any back up info on this video for us aspiring Jazz harp players?
Most of what makes it jazzy is the guitar progression and the chord forms, major 7ths, minor 7ths, all placed in a I-VI-IV-V type of progression (actually two, no three chord progressions) A good way to start in on 12th position is to learn to play Amazing Grace starting from the 4 blow. (See my book, Bluesify Your Melody for tab.) It has NO BENDS on hole 4 and above. You're hear it has difference intervals, a different type of voice, than 1st, and also 2nd position. This gets you started.
F on a C harmonica is naturally the lydian mode IF you play the F scale starting on Draw 5 and ending on draw 9 and not playing any bends or Overblows in between.
Thanks, Chris! For me 12th position is one of those scales, (like 4th position) that seems to work best when I initiate out of the 5th scale degree, so I actually use 1b,4b and 7b as though they were the tonic.
the song really sounds full and complete, it gives you the same feeling as you get form lets say a Jazz trio. i'm gonna try some of that too I think.

It's bad enough you can play and blow at the same time, but blow in 12th!? Do you sing and play drums too?
Seriously, that was one of the first youtube videos I watched all the way through in a long while....

any overblow?

None. That funky interval in the head is a benefit of 12th position.
