  • I can sing to this np, that means its good, Good job man!

  • @MRJARDIM Excellent...thanks for checking it out :)

  • Very clean, profi. Thank you (Спасибо тебе)!

  • Only achieved by Oberheim. Legendary sound synthesis. = )

  • One of my favourit song of Van Halen play with genius by you ! Thk you to play like that !

  • @DaxxetGamehero Thank you so much my friend!

  • @synthartist69 Could this be magic ? Oh yes you are ;) You are the best I ever heard on youtube !

  • please make a lesson

  • This synth will now cost you around $5000.00 or more... because Alesis stop making them. You'll be darn lucky to find one these days, because people are holding on to them.

  • i want ur andromeda!!!!!! Whats uer price????? lol

  • Always loved the synth in this song! Awesome job.

  • Krass, einfach nur Krass!!!

    Super

  • Very nice!! Could you make a video with the drum on the left side and the keys on right!!!? Will be amazing! It's very hard to find a correct version like you did! And sincerely we could use the track to play live in our shows..a virtual jam with you!! If possible... Success!!

  • Yeah Dude, that is a drum machine you are hearing.

  • Comment removed

  • is it full analog?

  • nice playing and a great synth.

  • awesome man : ) this is good music

  • lets say that you have made this sound with your juno....

was it sound better bfor this particular song or the andromeda fits in better?

  • if i wanted to buy my old OBXA back, then. the andromeda would be a fine replacement.

  • This is Amazing!

  • FINALLY some sounds with high attack, damn!

  • excelenttttttttttttttt

  • that's awesome!! excellent playing

  • good video but sorry i need to say something, omnisphere virtual synth and refx nexus sounds better :-)

  • @djiannolsen

just lol A6 is an analogue monster made on 2000

  • banging my head!

  • The AAA 6 is not for this simple 8 bit music. You can play this part with this sound even on Casio,

  • dude, if would be even better if you should a tutorial, or put notes out. If you do, please get a hold of me, any way awesome keep rockin \m/

  • dude, if u made an instructional video on how to play this, it wud be awesome, if u do, hit me up please

  • I like my korg ms2000 has the classic analogue knobs for sound shaping...keyboard is too short though

  • mad props

  • a little of on the sound but soo cool

  • @SynthaholicNH OB-Xa on 1984? Always wondered about this too. I always thought he used an OB8 at least that's what it sounded like to me.

  • He used the OB8 on the next album, 5150.

  • Thanks for the clarification. These units remind me of an Oberheim mixed with a Jupiter and as stated definitely "CS80-ish". In my opinion 3 of the best keyboards to come out of the 80's. When I played this years ago I fell in love with analog all over again. The funnest analog since my old Juno. I am breaking down and buying one this summer. It's amazing 9+ years later they still hold their value. I was hoping they would be below $2500 by now but alas-that's not the case.

  • @synthartist69 You mean Eddie Van Halen, the guitarist for Van Halen?

  • great!!

  • Great playing and great patch too! I love my A6, it can sound very Oberheim-ish, and CS80-ish too! I always thought Eddie used OB-Xa on 1984, not OB-X, because he used a split patch for the track "1984" and the OB-X can't do splits.

  • He did use the OBXA on Jump but I believe 1984 was a Roland JX3p. Thanks for the comment!

  • dude, hell yeah! AMAZING!

  • Thank you!

  • @TheBLAKKROZE nice playin

  • OMG that's just like my little 61 key yamaha- C2 to C7; damn how can u play anything on that?

  • I have a cheap Yamaha keybored with the Perfect Jump sound. It's called 80s BRS

  • perfect would be alittle much if it isnt analog it cant obtain the low freq of a analog synth most non anlog synths normaly are missing that real nasty bass sound under there sounds

  • @isaacrife08 did you watch my video of it; my playing isn't great; it's cold but you can hear the effect; and it didn't even touch my subwoofers. Only two bass notes do in the song. Mine are set to 50 Hz low pass. Lower than yours. Not being a dick just saying they are true-low. The bass notes associated with the longer, low C (right hand) on the synth touched the subs.

  • sounds great - beautiful patch!!

  • GOOD STUFF!!!!

  • Great work, very close to the origianl. Any tips for programming that sound on a OBxa or Andromeda? Basic patch settings would be great. Sounds like two detuned saw waves but not sure of the particulars, LFO's, ASDRS for amp and filter. odulation routings on the OBxa are very limited compared to the A6 so it can't be that intense. Thanks in advance!

  • Hey! You are better than the original. Congrats!

  • For Fantom G owners, check out patch GM#134! Synthartist69, thanks for the vid - I learned how to play this tune by watching your hands. (30 years and I still can't read - drove my music teachers crazy :)

  • Awesome!

  • simply cool , the sound its good too... i wonder what you can do with an OB-X

  • This really flew under the radar. When it came out people we're like what ? Alesis made an analog synth?I would like to here it next to the Prophet 08, or OBX

  • It's a ribbon controller. You can assign expression effects to it, like pitch shifting, which is much more controllable with it than the regular wheel (you can go directly to the pitch you want, without the portamento caused by the wheel).

  • I didn't know the Andromeda sounded so sweet. You did a great job!

  • nice job!!!

  • amazing !!

  • 'kin awesum!!!!

  • stuff like cutoff, modulation, and other cool effects. Drag you finger across it and you can apply cool effects to the sound.

  • WOW!!!!!! you really rock at this song, it is one of my favorites!

  • Thank you! It is one my favorites as well!

  • Sorry to be an old patch geek. I used to play this song on my old Casio CZ3000 back in the day. The thing I hear that's missing from that patch is more filter--essentially the sustain after the decay on the filter envelope should be lower. Also, if you put curve the keyboard so the sustained filter is more on the lower keys than the upper.. I was just glad to remember that years later..

  • Interesting advice.! A casio 3000, isn't that an FM synth?

  • No. It was digital, but had 2 DCOs, DCAs, and DCFs with a ring modulator so you could do some interesting DX like FM sounds using the envelope on the second DCA/DCA/DCF to get the tiney/ringy tones.

  • i would love to know how EVH got that tone for this song...his tone is unbelieveable and very unique on this tune. I think part of it is the amp it was run through...probably his marshall guitar amp.

  • He used an Oberheim OBXA synthesizer, that is how it sounds.

  • yeah i knew that he used an obxa (i hope to get one someday). but i think the obxa on jump is a pretty clean (no effects) tone, whereas on i'l wait it sounds to me like evh is running it thru something to make it sound creepier...i could be wrong though

  • I think that the creepiness that you are hearing is the oscillators slightly out of tune. It is a very unique sound on that song for sure, I love it!

  • oh cool, i didn't know that. guess the obxa is EVEN COOLER than i thought! dude i would love to have an Andromeda...saw Page McConnell from Phish using one. The A6 looks like the control room of the Death Star (in a good way) and sounds awesome!

  • Yeah, I have owned the OBXA and OB8. The Andromeda does look like a space age control panel. The only deal with that is it is way too much, hard to navigate. The OBXA is much easier and sounds better.

  • cool man, thanks for the info...yes it seems that simple is almost always better with music equipment. didn't know the a6 is hard to navigate or that the obxa is relatively easy. sounds like the obxa is the way to go for me. now i just need an extra $1000+!!!

  • I'm almost 100% certain he used OB-X on that album. String/pad sound on 1984 is certainly OB-X. Jump too, sounds like OB-X + guitar amp. Listen to the sound on "i'll wait" that comes in at 3:36. I can guarantee you that is OB-X!! I have an OB-SX; exact same sound as OB-Xa (CEM ICs), and the 1984 album differs from that sound. However, he used OB-Xa on stage. OB-X sounds more pleasant to me; Xa is harsher/grittier. OB-Xa is similar though, and has more features than OB-X.

  • Very cool indeed!

  • VAN HALEN IS AWESOME!!!!!

  • are drums from alesis?

  • I really like your work!, I play too, but it gets rather boring when i cant get it to sound as good as your synth.. or not even close. i have a yamaha dgx200, i guess its to cheap? :P

  • a little fast but awesome

  • u know a cheap piano i can edit to play that song?

  • Yes, a Casio CTK671. They should be well under $100.00 on Ebay.

  • I love that song especially the Synth and Drums.

You did a great job, very cool dude!

  • This was fricking awesome...Very much enjoyed this.

  • Thank you so much!

  • wicked!!!! so crazy!

  • I ENJOEYED THAT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM..... i commend you on everything you might have had to go through in order to learn and finally express to us van halen!

  • Van Halen rocks!

  • nice patch, i dunno about the andromeda though... to be honest its kinda ugly...

BUT that's irrelivant to how you played that! NICE JOB!

  • This is better than the original.

  • Now that I wish it was but thank you! Actually on the originally I hear an overdubbed synth part through much of the song that I wish I could pull off in real time.

  • the best ill wait version! The timbre choice couldn't be better and nice interpretation too. *****

  • Thanks Marcgenn!

  • my friend can do this

  • I'm beginning to think the OB-Xa is getting a little too much credit for what was in some cases actually done on an OB-X! They had very different internals, and not the same sound. A new synth from Tom with the same sound generation as the OB-X + modern features could be analog bliss! And judging from rising prices of used analogs, the demand would probably be pretty high.

The A6 is a great synth too though :)

  • I also thought the 84 album was done using the OBXA, just from seeing him using it in the video. I know he used an OB8 at some point as he discussed in a keyboard world interview back in 88.

  • could you show us some orchestra sounds(strings, violins, stuff)?

i have a Memotron with rack.,wanna exchange for a Korg karma?

  • I wish I could, I no longer have the Andromeda.

  • Thanks for the comment! You are right, the Andromeda gives ugly a new meaning. The Jupiter 8 is much better looking!

  • Good work..

  • great job 5 stars

  • Good stuff!!

Is this synth as ground breaking as they make it out to be?

  • Thanks for the comment! The synth is definitely by far, and I do mean by far, the most advanced analog synth ever created. The sound quality is not better than the Oberheim OB's or the Jupiter 8, even though it has more parameters to work with. It is awesome, and very well worth the price.

  • So you mean that the Oberheim sounds better, but just isn't as functional?

  • I would say that the Oberheim sounds slightly better, but that is just my opinion. The Oberheim is also much easier to program.

  • Either way I'd have to sell my entire rig and probably still wouldn't have enough... From your demos and others here on YouTube the Andy seems like a very nice sounding synth. IDK, I've been thinking get the Andy since it isn't crammed with 30 year old electronics on the brink of death. I'm afraid that one day I'll walk in, turn synths on and get a cloud of smoke...

  • Yes from a reliability standpoint, going with the Andromeda would be a smart move. The OB's and JP's are becoming a rich man's toy. I bought my OB8 and OBXA for 800.00 each about 6 years ago, I should have kept them. My jupiter 8 was 1,900.00 when I bought it then. I bid on an Arp Quadra on Ebay today, with a max of 650.00 thinking I would win it. It went for over 2,200.00!!! and it needed work! People are getting nuts out there, not to consider that we are going into a hard recession.

  • Yeah, people are fucking insane. People wanting over a $1,000 for a Prophet 600 and not too long ago they were going for around $400. Now the Prophet '08 is out, why the hell would you want the 600? Especially since for a couple hundred bucks more you get a far superior instrument... Idk what the deal with the price jump all of a sudden is about. OBX-A/OB-8 was down around $1,000 but has doubled, sometimes tripled...

  • That's like the Roland AX1. It's a plastic toy, I had one new for $400.00, now they go for as much as 1,500.00!!! The best deal out there has got to be the Alesis Ion. Man, that is one vintage sounding synth for almost nothing in terms of price. I see those on Ebay go for $400.00. 49 keys sucks, but other than that, it is the real deal and sounds very analog. It is made of metal, not plastic, and it blows any Roland Vintage Modeler or expansion board out of the water!

  • By the way, I remember back in the early 90's when you could by a truckload of OB's and Jupiters for $400.00 each. You could barely give one away, they were considered obsolete and lacking a quality piano sound.. lol lol lol Now look, just about everyone wants one. IMHO everything Roland has made since the JX has basically sucked as far as synth sounds go. Even Roland can't recreate it's own vintage synth sounds as we found out quickly when the JP8000 came out.

  • Ehm... I hope not considering I just bought a JP-8000. Then again I got it for like $300 flight case included, not the end of the world. But I had an Alesis Ion for about a year or so, got a Roland JX-8P and the Ion went walking. Got a JX-3P as well, obviously I like the Roland sound so I thought maybe I'd like their VA. That or just sell everything I own and try like hell to get an Andy.

  • Well a JP8000 has it's pros too, especially one for 300.00 with a case! I do like the fact that the effects have real time knobs. That JX8P is a fat sounding synth! I have a JX10, they are awesome!

  • Yep, the JP-8000 should be here this upcoming Tuesday. Quite excited. But yes, the 8P is awesome. I only find it lacking in bass due to slow env, but that is where the 3P comes in. Is it just me or does the 8P filter have a Curtis like sound to it?

  • The 8P is defnintely warm sound, especially the strings and brass. And how about those JX voices?? I just watched some prophet 08 videos, looks like it would be a fun synth to play.

  • The 8P is a sure winner when it comes to brasses, strings, pads. But the Prophet 08 looks sweet. Saw someone play next to OB-Xa and sounded identical. Only thing about the Prophet turning me away is the DCO's(not the end of the world, I'm used to it by now) and the external power supply(It would really kill Dave to spend an extra $50 for internal supply?).

  • Oh my God i am so gutted i sold mine !

And to rub salt to the wound, i just missed one on Ebay going for £250 WITH the PG2000 !!

ARGGGHHHHHHHH I love the JX-8P, anyonre wanna sell me one !

  • The JX8P is a pure bang for the buck and about the closest way to get this sound without breaking the bank. I use my JX10 for sounds like these and Eurythmics.

  • So you sold your Andromeda ?

Would be interesting to know why.

I've never got my hands dirty with one, but i don't believe in the 'one synth do it all' workhorse.

I tend to go for character. Its hard to get an analogue synth to show favourable characteristics in all instrument sounds.

But i'd be interested to know what the Andromeda brings to the table.

  • I sold it to buy another keyboard, a digital piano. If I found an Andromeda at a very low price, I would consider buying it. It is very Oberheimish sounding for the most part.

  • JX8p - fully agree.....same with KORG POLY 800

  • Yeah, and could you imagine the nightmare of getting that OB fixed??!! A voice board goes out, locating a new one, several hundred dollars right there. Pots crackling, keys mis triggering, man the nightmare could be huge. Then finding someone to work on it, shipping it off, praying that during the process that nothing else gets vibrated to hell and destroyed.

  • When I said worth the price, I meant used under 2k.

  • Does the andy(A6)have "glide" like a moog or SE-1....

  • Great Work!! Fenomenal synthesizer:)

  • sweet ..sounds wicked ,could use a touch of reverb tho

  • Awesome. I saw Van Halen live in April and when they played this song, the keyboard sounded EXACTLY like this. Very well done, 5/5.

  • Thank you! I saw Van Halen one year ago in Kansas City. They are a group of exceptionally talented musicians, just unbelievable really!

  • awesome performance. I think the andromeda A6 it's the most sophidticated and great sounding machine in the nowadays but i love the obxa fat sound, i don't remember if this song played on a discrete vcf OB8 because sound different to curtis filter OBXA of "jump".

  • wow nice i saw them live a few months ago and that sounded like the live synth exactly

  • Génial! Bravo :)

  • Wow! you are really good! :D Really awesome I must say! what other songs do you play? how old are you? :D one last thing, your are really great! xD

  • Nice... Has a "Dance"-cover air to it, and I like it! Bravo!

  • Nice work replicating an old classic.

  • cool shit, dude. im glad someone put up something pretty interesting for once instead of 3000 twelve year olds trying to play iron man

  • Hey, that's pretty funny! Thanks for the compliment!

  • hahahaha yeah really im tired of those kids

  • SO freaking great :)))

  • good shit

  • outstanding

  • Nice. I really like this.

  • haha i have a rx5 to, heard that it was one right away:) it is truly under rated, its a wery cool digital drummachine, perfect for electro music. You can do so mutch with the samples :) i simply love it:) Gettin a tr707 to morrow tho, need that one to i think:P

    Nice vid:) Peace

  • The RX5 is still a great bargain too! One day the powers of Ebay will take notice and zoom the price to $200.00, which will then seem like such a good bargain as well!

  • You can do quite a bit with an Ion, but this synth is in a substantially different class.

  • Dude........that's AWESOME!!! I have an Ion right now, but hopefully I can buy an Andromeda in the coming years! =(

Great video though, it still sounds awesome!

  • The Ion is pretty awesome itself, mine is in the shop for output problems.

  • The ION is just as awesome, you just have to reprogram, same goes for the Andromeda. The onboard sounds are not that good.

  • I know, it is awesome, and I still love my Ion. I've made many custom patches for it, my favorites being the ones I made for "Jump" and "1984". I'm going to upload some videos of me playing them soon, so look out! =)

  • Cool, I will stay tuned for them!

  • Thanks for the vid, it's great! RE:Andromeda, I have read that if you bypass the FX section, you'll get pure analog. :-)

To do this, I think they mentioned taking the output from the FX send. Does that make sense?

  • This is the greatest synthesizer ever made. I am not talking hype. I own one of these and have experienced myself.

  • Excellant work.

I love my A6 to bits. A stunning synth that has soooooooooooo much going on under the hood.

  • Thank you! Yes, the A6 is pretty awesome. This video doesn't do it justice, it sounds a little distorted for some reason. The vid file in my pc is actually cleaner sounding.

  • the vid. is compressed at youtube quality. beautiful keyboard. I dream of owning an andromeda. Someday.

  • Exactly, hopefully one day we will be able put large files on youtube. This one was compressed to AVI, which really kills the resolution.

  • btw how'd you trigger the drum loop?

  • I used an old Yamaha RX5 drum machine. I programmed this basic beat into the machine. I triggered by using a foot pedal.
