you sound a lot like steve perry,...is that just your natural range or are you using some techniques that you learned to sing up there? like head voice and all that? if so, share your wisdom
are you sure that steve perry wasn't hiding somewhere in a back room with a mic? you were fantastic my friend! keep on singing and we'll keep on listening!
It would take some time to get my voice in shape but yes, I could give u a 2hour set...lots of water, and a guitar solo ...then Im ready. Thanx 4 the good review.
hey man good job but please no offence i thought the song was just a little to big 4 u try to bring it down 1 or 2 i thought u were pushing a little to much to hit the high notes that u were loseing it a little towards the end but all in all man really good job i can't do it too high 4 me but i can rock out a good styx lady i will have to post it some day but if ur ever in buffalo ny let me know cause u have to come to my karaoke show so i can mix u keep on singing man
thank u 4 those kind words....i was a bit flat, please read my reply to the review above your post...that may explain it better....please send this video to ur friends and send me ur email and i will send u my demo. w/b thanks again , Mike
yeah man , I agree with Walrus80, with some refinement this guy could replace Steve Perry better than Augeri or Soto, but I was hoping for the high part last repeat of "hold on till the bitter end", though. Never the less, there's more power in your voice, as was is Mr Perry, so Good luck!
Mike, that's cool, I had already checked out this video after I posted mine. I showed some friends. We should do a double Steve Perry-a-thon sometime! Good job!
this is the best journey karaoke cover version ever! im singing this song too but im quitting now because of this guy! lol! you should make a tribute band m8!!! best of luck!!!^^
Thank you for that great comment. It feels great to know that even though it wasn't anywhere near my best work, people still enjoyed the effort. Hey, you can't quit! you gotta keep on rockn' and DSB!!
Mike, thanks for watchin my vid, you did a very good job- the mic was a little loud- you have a good voice, good potential, and you sound like Steve Perry to a degree in the style you sang (which I do...):) great!!
best song ever... not the best vocals ever. ha ha but the important thing is that DSB lives on and ppl everywhere are singing it!!! I'm 14, and I, myself, sing this song at karaeoke every chance I get. so, thx 4 insuring that Mr. Perry LIVES ON!!! love, peace, and PERRY forever ~ Jade <3
great job. Notes to work on are the High B (somewhere in the NIGHT!!!) that note. You have pitch issues there, your about 25 cents flat. Also, work on your facial shape on certain notes, they will be easier to sing that way. (For instance, "Up and down the BOULEVARD", that could use work) Overall, phenominal job, best imitation I have seen. Great Job
you, sir, are incredible. too bad about the sucky audience though... i think for some random crap take (it wasn't crap, what i mean is unprepared, not really focusing etc) it's just brilliant
Two things, the second one os much more important:
1) Practice Practice Practice. You have the gift. Get it real! Sing from the gut mate!
2) STAGE PRESENCE. Just standing there doesn't do anything for me. You have to SHOW energy. Watch concert videos until your eyes bleed and you'll figure it out ;)
Dude you really do have a great voice and vocal range, and could make a carrer as a singer for any band, the only thing I'd suggest you do is work a bit on your pitch, some of it is slightly out of key, but some trainning would make it perfect, I wish I had a voice like that!
No frickin bad at all man...right now you kick the @ss of Steve Soto who is currently the lead singer for Journey. A tiny bit of pitch issue...but really pretty damn good....good job!
I WANA HEAR YOU SING SOME ERIC MARTINalaMR BIG!! GOOD VIBRATO JUST DONT OVER DRIVE THE VOWELS, PUSH MORE ON THE FLATS AND SMOTH OUT THE SHARPS, BUT YOU HAVE A REAL TALENT!!
Hey, let me say that your 100% right on the vocal review. Eric Martin is good. I also like power vocalists from bands such as Queensryche, Styx, Dream Theater and Foreigner. I was wondering if you ever heard of Michael Matijevic of SteelHeart? I wish I could tap into their vocals and combine their skills into my own style. Perry,DeYong,Tate etc... What do you think about those guys? Thanks for your positive review(s).w/b with your thoughts on those guys.
ALL MY FAVS, 2 AS A VOCALIST ITS HARD 2 STAY AWAY FROM THE GREAT ONES, INTURN IT MAKES IT HARDER 2 FIND YOUR OWN VOICE, ALL MUSIC IS RECYCLED INDIVIDUALISIM, WE ALL BUILD ON SOMTHING PREVIOUSLLY DONE! chris degarmo of qryche
I think you sounded alot like Steve Augeri in this. Some may disagree with my assertion, but I think your sound was closer to his rather than Perry's (not that it matters because it was an awesome performance) Very enjoyable! This was 5 years ago? Are you still performing?
Thank's for the review. I agree it's less Perry than I'd like to strive for. I hope to make/upload better quality vids. Honestly, I've done that song before and I've had far better results. This is the only video ever shot of me singing Journey. I still sing and write. I hope to have better material that will show a more accurate demonstration of my vocals(good or bad.)
Hope you add some more Journey classics or cover some of the other performers you mentioned to KSFALLGUY. I think you could do a good job with just about any song out there with range like that. Hope to see more soon.
Thanks "Slice" I just got a video capture device and put up a test vid. I think I'm going to try "Lights" or "Separate Ways" for my next vid...un less you (or anyone else) has a request or suggestion. Thanks again for the praise. Other vocals I enjoy are Boston, Survivor, Toto and (don't laugh) Stryper. Let me know.
Hey, Now that's a cool screen name!! Thanks for watching it. The problem is that I think the American Idol age limit is 25. But, I hope to put up future karaoke vids of more Journey,Styx,REO,Foreigner songs as well as some of my own demos. Hopefully they will be a lot better quality than this one was. Feel free to send this video link around for more feedback(good or bad)Thanks again.
Journey: "Good Morning Girl", "Winds of March", "Open Arms" (A crowd fave), and "Happy to Give". For Styx you clearly need to do: "Lady" and "Lorelei" Also you might want to try some Boston... ;)
Mike....I left a comment last week but I don't see it. Anyways....I think you did an awesome job singing! Very difficult to sing Perry songs. You def. should look into singing for a career or at least try out for American Idol. Remember....."Don't stop believin'", ok that may have been a bit cheesy :) Take Care!
I am a HUGE Steve Perry fan so it takes A LOT to impress me when someone does a cover version. It's hard to cover his songs, big shoes to fill. Or should I say a big voice to fill. But you win my vote! GREAT job at a tough, tough song! you by any chance aren't Portuguese too, are ya? LOL
Nope sorry, Irish and Italian. Stay tuned for future vids. Thank you for your vote...and yes they(Steve's) are BIG shoes to fill. Im glad you liked it. Please feel free to rate the video and tell a friend. I'm open to any feedback good or bad. Thanks again.
Wow!!..I am flattered but I am currently in round the clock negotiations with Mr. Clive Davis of Arista fame. I've already had to break the bad news to Dr. Dre. Feel free to make any counter offers you wish. Have your A&R rep call mine and we'll do lunch. LOL
To be even considered in the same breath as Ozzy or Steve is a huge compliment. Thanks for those kind words. It's the only video I have..Im hoping to put up some better quality stuff with more focus on tighter vocals. Thanks again.
dude honestly i'd take you over journey's new singer. you have great range, tone, and power. something journey hasnt seen since perry. put up as many vids as you can, i'd watch 'em.
Damn well done sir! I always have problems with Journey tunes lol but you nailed it! Awesome job! *cheers
