i bought an sg standard about 2 months ago, its a 2011 model aged cherry with a baked maple fretboard, it sounds and plays amazing, i wouldn sell it for anythng :D
A lot of guitar players buy guitar after guitar working their way up to the upper line models. Why not save money and buy one from the start. I had a low end Gibson Epiphone for about 10 years. I've been saving my money for a while and then finally I decided to get something nice. My reasoning for picking the SG over the Les Paul, or ...

@junkerde You'll notice that most guitars are similar in this regard. It's just how they're built. It's just more noticeable on the SG because the body is totally flat.
Hi guys! can anyone help me with choosing a new guitar. im stuck between the gibson sg special (as shown here), the gibson sg special 60s tribute, and the epiphone 50th anniversary sg special 61 w P90s. which would be best? i love to play blues, rock, hard rock and metal
@EriksAnarchy512 I can't speak for everyone, but if I opted for an Epiphone when I could afford a Gibson, I know that I'd be disappointed down the road.
@GadgetOverview The Classic is good for what it is but if you have a Classic you also need a standard, the Humbuckers have more versatility (IMO) I love the Classic for bluesy stuff and crunchy stuff, I love the standard for everything, my personal favorite is the Standard with Coil Splitting because you can get whatever sound you want out of it
@GadgetOverview I love them too lol, they aren't my favs but when I pick a guitar with p90s up I go all George Harrison on that thing.. lol I'm getting my first Gibson soon, it's a Gibson SG Standard with coil splitting (a Guitar Center exclusive) I highly recommend you check it out, after messing with it a bit I actually got p90 sounds out of it
excuse the spelling...here is part of the last sentence.....pr a certain guitar within the same line of say "Les Pauls" which feels right for some unknown reason other than feeling right!
After reading your SG response would you say that there is such a thing as the chemistry between the guitarist and the guitar! For example a certain model or brand or a certain guiate within the same line or saay :Les Pauls"..which feels right for some unknown reason other than it feels right!
Man I wish I could afford the special SG! I guess I'll have to wait for now and be satisfied with my Aria PE anniversary that I won't be able to play for 3 more days, as it is getting new frets :(
Gibson didn't discontinue the Les Paul just because they felt like it. They discontinued them because they flopped in the late 50's. The SG was the product of Gibson's need to make a more futuristic-looking guitar that could compete with the Stratocaster.
@MadSpectro7 The SG was actually just a newer Version of the Les Paul, and was at one point called Les Paul. But les paul himself did not like the design, so they went back to the classic les paul design, and renamed the SG to SG (meaning solid guitar)
@MBvolcom92 Gibson didn't reintroduce the classic Les Paul Standard until 1968 due its rise in popularity over the 60s. The SG, however, had "Les Paul" officially removed from its name in '61. The Gibson website says itself that the SG was originally intended to replace the Les Paul.

I have the SG Classic and I love the P90s. Very dynamic to power rock, to blues to even jazz when your roll the volume and tone back. I do prefer the sound of the EL34 valves with this combo for sure.
I have a awesome Gibson les paul Studio in worn brown finish, i bought it from Thomann.de for the superprice 590 euro! a real deal, if you want a les paul check it out :)
The 2010 model Epiphone G-400 Standard 62 sg and the Epiphone limited edition 50th Anniversary 1961 sg Reissue i find to be better sg's than Gibson models. Epiphones only down fall is there way under priced for the top quality they produce today.

I don't "Use" SG's because I don't get on with them - simple as that.
Guitar brands do not "Throw Money & Goodies" at retail stores to promote their gear... I know because I own a guitar company and I have demonstrated for some of the best MI retailers in the UK for around five years now.
I have always demonstrated whatever the store wants to promote and what the people ask to see.

You will never convice me that Gibson standard sg is better than a 2010 model Epiphone G400 standard 1962 sg. The 2010 Epiphone G400 standard 62 sg has Epiphone usa made classic and classic plus humbuckers Double Vacum Waxed and wound with Enamel Wire.
I was thinking special but I have fallen hard for the standard. If you can't afford the price of a new one as I know I can't. I have found some pretty good deals on Kijiji!

The pros and cons of the Gibson SG are:
Pro: Easy reach to frets in the highest register. Excellent tone from mahagony body.
Con: Balance, when hanging from a giutar strap is a little off. Easy to break at body/neck joint if mishandled, but is repairable.

I have found some pretty good deals on Kijiji!

is it just me or do SGs look better with a full pickguard than a half pickguard? matter of fact an SG with a half pickguard is ugly as hell :)
