  • Can you hear me?

  • Can you hear me?

  • this tune i knew cause sandra cretu xxxx

  • why 34 bitches don't like it.. = /

  • Death to the New World Order...

  • this is a great song

  • Good song, bad video

  • It's funny how when I was growing up in the 70's & 80's, we only seemed to have a brief nostalgia for the 50's & the 60's-not that those decades were not memorable because I'm a huge fan of music from those eras, but the fascination was very brief. I remember how I used to tease my parents about growing up then and would always say "But mom, this isn't the 50's you know! ITS THE 80's!!!" Now it's over 20 yrs later and this is the only decade that seems to still stick in everyone's mind.

  • @auntstacey123 Yeah... I wonder why???

    *switches off the 'snark' machine*

    :)

  • This song was so far ahead of it's time it's scary... I listen to this today and get a completely different meaning from it beyond that of the musical score.

    Kudos!

  • One of my all time favorite songs, though I'm a very eccentric old old guy in a youthful body!!!

  • Billy drago delivers the key!!!

  • takes me back

  • WHEN I START THE REVOLUTION AGAINST THE NEW WORLD ORDER, I'LL BE PLAYING THIS SONG, ALONG WITH ROCK THE CASBAH !!

  • I was thinking this might be a idea that if we all believe all we are told,That we never question,.Then here is a gun for protection against those that come destroy you for no real reasons, but the gossip.

  • no it's back when they ( the bands) made message videos which tell stories.

  • Is this music video taken from a film? If so, what is the film called and what is it about? If the music video is not from a film, what exactly is the film in the music video about?

Classic song by the way. :)

  • @yethboth Wish I knew for I,d probly love to see the film. This you too? You wanted to view the film .If there was one.

  • this was in werewolf the pilot episode at the dance club

  • Great song video is dumb

  • me encantaba de morro,me recuerda mi infancia, i like a lot, i remember my youngest days

  • Classic song.

  • classic

  • OH YEAH the 80's wow raising my two sons in temple texas great memories can you hear it...... Mary

  • I'm also a child of the 80's and I do remember this song.

it's a lovely and beautiful song.

    so thank you for posting.

  • Well the 80s were simpler, before computers took over litteraly everything like they did from the mid 90's on. so in a way it was simpler, before all the political correctness gained steam it was the end of the cold war and the threats were very real just as terrorism is now.

  • cooooooooool!!!!!!!!

  • Uwielbiam tom piosenkę jest super.

  • tez tak mysle szkoda ze nie robi sie juz takiej muzyki...

  • Does anybody know what the meaning of this song is and what does the video have to do with the song? if anything..

  • Don't believe the church and state means think for yourself as they will use you as their pawns.

Swear allegiance to their flag means keep your head down and use citizenship to your advantage. Eg. education, military training.

Freedom is not something you can take for granted. Eg. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Bin Laden...

    The video just scifi.

  • depressed child who lost his father possibly by suicide. a man shows up and gives the boy a key (metaphorically an "idea"). In the kid's imagination he can only rationalize his father leaving for something very important like saving the world. the child wants to be with his father and goes to the locked room using the key (idea). Inside he finds the portal to his father(a gun symbolized by the cube). the mother hears a bang and runs upstairs as the child dies from a self inflicted gunshot wound

  • To clear up the confusion, this is from the little known movie "Choke Canyon". It was released in the UK as "On Dangerous Ground" However, the video contains clips that are not in the movie, so it's a little weird

  • I always wondered what movie it was!

    Thanks!

I've always thought of this video as "RedDawn-esque". Now I find out I'm not the only one! LOL

    Who knew?!?!

  • "Can you hear me? Can you hear me running?" This song and video is sooooo 80's. Oh, God, how i miss the 80's :(

  • You and me both. I grew up in the 80's. The best years ever.

  • This song has great relevance on today's times does it not?

  • Absolutley it is relevant to today.

  • I,too,second that.

Things will come to a head and soon.

"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength."

    George Orwell

  • I aggree, I loved the 80's. Life was simpler back then.

  • it WAS the best decade ever. you wore what you wanted and you did what you wanted. seemed that everyone was happier then. and seened that music influenced everything. music was better then too. had more soul. i miss the 80's

  • I assume you were a kid/teen? Everyone says that about their childhood era. It was simpler and easier because it was your parents who paid the mortgages and Israel attacking or being attacked didn't even register. It's funny when you hear about people who were 8-14 in the early 70's and how much "simpler" and "innocent" things were. No mention of Viet Nam or the Kennedy's or Munich.

Every era is the same. It's all about whether you have a security blanket and someone wiping your tushy.

  • @darktim99 Yeah, it seemed like one long, continous 10 yr party. Never thought it would end!

  • @auntstacey123 - what? Its over - OMG

  • Oh, to go back to 1986 would be great.

  • What a music video without rumpshaking or whining about the war? who knew such a thing was possible?

Great up childofthe80s1981 I had forgotten about this video great stuff.

  • one of the most moving videos ever.

  • Does anyone remember the name of that warewolf series on the USA Network? They featured this song at the opening credits... am I just dreamin?

  • Simply a musical masterpiece. "Mike & The Mechanics 4-Ever!"

  • Brilliantly sung by the one and only Paul Carrack.

  • When I saw this video back in the day, I thought "I wanna see the movie that this is from". I noticed that in brackets after the song title it says "On dangerous ground", so I rented a movie called that thinking it was the right one. I watched it all the way through just waiting for this song. It wasn';t the right film! Hrrmph! I dunno what that movie was about, I didn't take it in because I was just waiting for the music. Haha!

  • From what I understand this movie was never released in the USA (where I am from) due to the graphic scenes of war between Russia and the USA (dont ask me this is what I read somewhere). I have asked all my Brit friends if the know where to get this. It was called "On Dangerous Ground" I always try to find someone who knows about it as this was the title song. Email Mike Rutherford , maybe he knows.. I have tried

  • As a previous poster said, think morere "Footfall" by Niven and Pournelle than Red Dawn. I recall one sci-fi book by them or David Drake, where a mercenary officer walked into a town and was cheered and their flag flying everywhere, then a few days later when they were defeated the town welcomed the other side with flying flags and cheers too.

The comment in the song, "Don't believe in church and state and everything they tell you" is so apropo today based on the last 8 years of lies from DC.

  • ladies and gentlemen we are reaching a time where bad economic standing will lead to war.

it has happened and the past and it will happen in the near future. yasterday some one from a terriorist group said reach out to islam. this is a place of freedom and our own beliefs so lets stand up togatber and protect those beliefs and freedom any way possible

  • totally disreguard it if you think that i am wrong

  • and help support our troops any way possible

  • A vision of what's to come. Wake up America!

  • very true!

  • I can hear you

  • It's from the 1986 movie "Choke Canyon".

  • Also, is that an actual movie their showing bits of?

    Thanks Tom

  • This was one of my all time favorite songs as a kid.

And now people here are ruining it with political discussion that's only marginally relevant to the subject matter presented within the song.

  • I think this song is about someone calling out for help after his or her own country was being run down by war and the events leading up to it like

  • Hey who gave me a thumbs down whoever did well whats your opinion?

  • does street smart count any more you can be book smart and still be as dumb as a box of hair or rocks

  • one of the greatest songs of the 80's and i rarely ever hear played on any of the 80's stations.

  • great song

  • God how I miss this decade! The 80s was the greatest time of my life!

  • Me too!

  • Their very first hit! Many don't know it, but Mike & the Mechanics are actually a supergroup; All the members originally came from other bands. Mike Rutherford is from Genesis; Paul Young is from Sad Cafe (Passed away in 2000), & Paul Carrack was with Ace, then Roxy Music, then Squeeze, & even had a few solo hits!

  • I was wondering how this group formed... thanks for saving me time to look it up!

  • How is babby formed?

    How is babby formed?

I dunno actually, Tony and Phil had solo careeers so I suppose Mike wanted one.

I know he already did "solo" stuff, I suppose he wanted a band.

This doesn't really answer your question does it? Oh well.

  • Weird, it's the same bass and drum line from A World Without Heroes by KISS

  • love this song! awesome listenin' :)

  • is this from a movie

  • What is this song supposed to be about? When it first came out, as the Cold War was still on, we all thought it was about a "Red Dawn" type of scenario (the Patrick Swayze movie of communist invasion of the US)but this vid makes it look more sci-fi. Any ideas?

  • I'm in Houston. As best I can tell there are 25000 to 35000 foreign troops at(Ft Hood) in Temple. That all I could glean from phone calls. I saw a ton of Russian chemical trucks it appeared, tanks and other heavy equipment

All Russian, or Ukranian as they speak mostly Russian. This is just one base. There are now over 800 detention camps all across this country. We've had two stolen elections in the US and our reps just gave $5 trillion with interest to FED criminals..Go to infowars(dot)com

  • Bad things are on the way. Clean you guns or if you don't have any buy some and lots of ammo. Seems the NWO is going for broke.

Infowars(dot)com a patriot and one of the few places your going to hear the truth about anything

  • Hm. Definitely food for thought. Thanks for the info.

  • Those that don't remember the mistakes of the past are condemmed to repeat them. The fools that voted for the incoming president are going to be in for an eye opening experence. Sorry for the spelling errors...But, people wake up!! We are in for a heap of trouble!!

  • strange.. I wonder how many others like us thought of this very song the moment he was elected..

  • Actually, I though of this song, and "The Final Countdown"....

  • well its nice to know im not the only one thinking this way

  • I agree with both of you. Haha things will get really scary when "he", after his 2nd term, somehow finds a way to stay in office. That is when things will get intresting.

  • a true yankee indeed. stick to your farm, and pick your own cotton.

  • WHAT???? Just to inform you, yankee's don't grow cotton, that is grown in warmer climates like in the south! My family were fishermen, and basically farmed the sea. Oh, by the way, I grew up in the city...and now live in the country where I am glad to grow my OWN food for my family.

  • those fools that voted for the incoming president...might actually be doing that idiotic mentatlity of yours a good favour. Shut up about politics and history and enjoy your fish or whatever you grow. Dont try and act smart cuz its clear you've got an IQ worst than a toad in a pond...and thats what you are.

  • LMAO!!! Oh snap!!! XD

Why do people comment about politics on music video pages? The world will never know!!! XD

  • I wouldn't boast about your IQ. My GPA is 4.0....and you may need this "toad" someday to save your life. Just because someone's IQ is low dosen't mean that their value is less. By the way, my IQ was 137 in the third grade, and it's much higher now. Does that make me a better person than you? No, just diffrent

  • GPA 4.0 in bacherlor of incredible stupidity and "moronism" sure. Please dont reply...you simply make me wince in pain at your degenerated mindset.

  • you have a lot to learn buddy, a lot. I'm not scared off by your rants and nasty comments. I will continue to answer anyone who writes to me. You don't like what I say, then don't read what I wrote. I live in a free country and can say and do as I pretty much please. Have a wonderful life.

  • Hey are you even able to talk to someone with out insulting them? I hope all Canadians arent snotty like that, geeze.

  • You go Yankeegurl. You owned that Canadian shit head. He should learn to spell.

  • i am sorry, you do not grow fish like cotton you have to catch them. besides what is wrong with yankees? yankeegurl congrats on the 4.0 that took some hard work. so cheers to you

  • No matter what the video looks like _I_ always think of "Red Dawn" when I hear this song.

  • Yeah, before I saw the video today I always thought it was like some ppl radeing into the house and the dad stayed there to fight and protect his family, while the mom takes the kids away and hides in the celler. also yea makes me think of Red dawn. Good song anyway! whats the video about btw?

  • I have been searching for this song for a long time. The song brings back great memories from the 80s for sure!! Love the synth!!!

  • Wow, well we'll never get a song this well written & beautiful on the radio charts again. De-evolution is so so sadly real.

  • almost prophetic song. I have memories of my dad telling me how much he liked this song when I was the age of the child in this song. Oh the memories.

  • don't believe the church & the state and everything they tell you!

  • You are telling nothing but the truth!

  • The scary looking guy is Billy Drago. He guest starred in Charmed and some low grade movies.

  • He was also in The Untouchables (The 1987 movie with Kevin Costner)

  • the lead singer looks a little like phill collins

  • i was thinking the same thing, you right they look alike !!

  • They were both in Genesis.

  • beautiful. brings a tear to your eye almost y'know?

  • who is that scary guy in video

  • That Little boy grew up and became Thai Miller. ( likes to call Cali home) He took people for lots of cash after Hurrican Ivan,....that PRICK owes me $10,000. Can You Hear me looking your Punk Ass up? Coast to Coast. How is Sarah? Nigger I WILL FIND YOU. Can You Hear me? Lone Star Ratbastards, Inc. Its a big old World, but there aint nowhere to go, Thai. One of these days,......

  • Swear allegiance to the flag,

    Whatever flag they offer.

    Never tell them what

    you really feel.

    Teach the children

    quietly.

    For someday sons and daughters

    will rise up, and fight

    while we stood still.

  • Great song.

It's about us today. Ignore the video, listen to the message.

  • Yeah I've always thought this too. The lyrics sound almost like an uprising against a corrupt government.

  • You are so very, very right.

  • too bad you cannot find this song on Itunes.

  • Napster has it....Imagine that.

  • Wow what a blast from the past! Great video. Never get tired of listening to it.

  • I always thought The Sun Always Shines On T.V. should've been the favorite single. Better hook than Take on me. heh heh

  • Classic from better years gone by. I love Mike Rutherford's bass/guitar playing.

  • The high command say alegence to a flag whatever flag they offer. Fits the times right now. Think about it.

  • Every word says something about now!

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS FROM THE 80´s

    LEGENDARY !!

  • i am not saying look like a coward and pull out of iraq but the dow has seen the lowest since the 9/11 attacks and i remember when some one told me (he was a retired marine) that dont start a war unless you have the money to keep it going. i think the terrorist acomplished what they set out to do (destroy the american economy).

  • by the way this song is the best song other then the living years by the same group

  • I always loved this song in the 80's!!!

take on me is the must played song in the world i am from norway yeah

  • nice song..isn t the soundtrack from rolamd emmeichs film "joey"

  • The song was written for: "Choke Canyon... a 1986 movie starring Stephen Collins as a "cowboy scientist" trying to develop an alternative energy source. It was filmed mostly in the vicinity of Moab, Utah.

The video features clips from the film as well as a seperate visual narrative shot just for the video's release on MTV. good stuff!

  • Very strange video. The song never made sense to me either! LOL

  • I was 8 or 9 when this song came out. I always loved it, but I thought I remembered it being from the movie "Poltergeist". I guess I just remembered watching the video and seeing a child opening a closet with a bright light coming out of it so I thought it was that scene from Poltergeist. Oh well, guess I was wrong. Anyway, great song and vid, a perfect blast from the past. :)

  • shite yes

  • Def a song that can get stuck in your head, even many years later. I was just unpacking and it was in my head, so thanks Childofthe80s for posting it! :O)

  • I heard this song over a year ago and loved it but did not catch the name and of course never heard it again.I got it in my head the other day I finally was able to type in enough of what I remembered to find it thank god.Now I can get it out of my head by listening to it!

  • Uwielbiam głos tego faceta!

  • I wouldn't count on it! Mke Rutherford said in an interview that On Dangerous Ground is the sort of film you should watch in fast-forward!!

  • Alltime gr8

  • Nice vid and song. Thanks for sharing and posting.

  • Great vid and music thanks *****

  • Awesome song & video!

    The 80's was great!

  • Man, I miss the 80s.

  • Love Mike & The Mechanics! Checked Wikipedia though, apparently the film from which the clips in the video are from, didn't feature this, or indeed any song from Mike & The Mechanics!

  • BTW the film's posted on here

  • The very short clips at 1:58 and 4:10 are from the film On Dangerous Ground - which seems impossible to find anywhere! The name of the boy in this video (who only seems to have one expression!) is Tiache Christian.

  • I heard to this song already when i was 5 Jears old. I Love it!!!!

  • Awesome song+ video! thanks for posting!

  • this song has always made me think of the film red dawn.

  • Read "Footfall" by Nevin and Pournell and listen to this. Really weird...and so perfect.

  • vintage 80's. I love it

  • dont worry, nothing matters anymore, Global Nuclear War is within weeks

  • 1 week left ay??

  • how many people believe that there will be a nau or north american union. if that ever happens let us hope that there are people who can stop it in its tracks. me personaly think it is all bs but you never know what can happen in the next year or so. so as a final thought lets us keep the freedoms that the usa use too stand for and fight for it.

  • Thank You, Mike Rutherford, for this great song!

  • Great!

  • CAN YOU HEAR ME PEDDLING
