  • Charlie is the best striker of a ball I have ever seen. As he say's himself he never needed much lift in his leg to strike the ball.

  • where did you get this footage?

  • @orangenation64 It's on a vhs video "Derby County Matches of the 70's".

  • I remember the game back in Madrid. It was my 1st year in High School and I've never seen so many drunk English supporters all around my school having a bath in a fountain. At the end I was happy because it was the greatest Amacio's match and Real Madrid won 5-1. I was 14!

  • I was at this game, I still have my Rams newspaper (programme) together with all the Derby team autographs from the game. Frannie Lee was my hero, the best diver in the business and had a good right hook (ask bite yer legs Hunter). Forget this notion that the foreigners brought diving to the premiership.....they learnt from the master who will always have Man City closest to his heart.

He's fat and bald and scores a goal.....Fanny..... fanny,

he takes a dive and scores a goal.. Fanny.. fanny

  • 6:14 one of the biggest referee mistakes I have ever seen

  • Its always been great for any team playing at Home!

Here 2 Penalties and very debatable if the Referee woulf have been brave enough to give ONE of them in The Bernabeu, especially with all the Real players jostling him ! Great Derby side but Real scored a perfectly good goal that, as usual, away you do NOT get the "benefit of the doubt"..

  • 3:03 goalie had no gloves!

  • hes a very good diver Lee.. when he goes down it allways looks like hes diving in a swimmining pool lol

  • commentator is barry davis not motty

  • Even thought im only 14 i now quite a bit about football of that era throught my grandad but i have not got a clue what is crakin off at 3:30??? can somebody please tell me

  • @fdfgkjlhjjddk Motson the commentator states that Hector was fouled and the Rams got a freekick.

  • @vntr2006 errrm....Barry Davies

  • @vntr2006 All these English clubs that are unrecognized by today's standards where five stars back then!

Could it be the destruction of greed?

  • @samluke8121 Yes. There seems to be no skill in building a winning team now. It's all about money. 50m for Torres is a classic example.

  • ....and Real win 5:1...but anyway where is Derby County ? Dissapeared from international competition ...

  • @ShapurKing who cares? The champions League is for the money grabbers in the Premiership.

  • @vntr2006 ...well....it is true

  • @vntr2006 Liverpool and Manchester United need to grab all the money they can get, you know!

  • @vntr2006 Liverpool and Manchester United need to grab all the money they can get, you know!

  • @ShapurKing english championship most competitive league in the world and probably most entertaining in that sense

  • If anyone would like to get their story of when they met Cloughie in a new book, please get in touch and drop me a line

  • this ref really fucked madrilenos...even though derby were in their golden age...

  • just thinking if derby county won the 1975 european cup they"d be up there with us villans in europe

  • Real Madrid = The world's worst football club. Greed and money , destroying the game.

  • @thedoc24100 What do you know? RM is not owened by any American/Arab/Thai millionare. It's owned by its members. Buys players in the same way that Man U, Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea do, but the moeny comes from its own resources and its avility to market the club... Stop reading bullsh1t...

  • I was here, in Bernabeu. I was 17 years old.

I will never be able to forget it.

  • 15 days later... Santiago Bernabeu... Real Madrid 5 - Derby County 1... ... Derby County out? Where is the video?

  • We had a lot of injuries for that game. Also Francis Lee a key player, was suspended. You did not win the final though!

  • If you want, changes the history. But the HISTORY is the HISTORY. Don't cry, be happy.

(Hago esfuerzos por entenderte, pero no puedo. Escribe en castellano, buen hombre).

Remember: 5 - 1... Real Madrid FIVE - Derby County ONE. TWO goals of Santillana, TWO goals Roberto Martínez, ONE goal Pirri.

    Sorry!

  • lol....I admit it was a good fightback....I did cry at the time as I was only a little kid....but I still cry now and again at our poor results this season !

  • You and I were very young. Still we are young because still we love our teams. Regards from Spain.

  • What's happened to the Baseball Ground pitch? There's grass on it!!

Such a shame Charlie George wasn't a EC winner, as most of the great Derby team of the 70s (BTW, I'm a Chelsea fan!).

  • Thanks for the comment mate! We had a few problems for the return leg. Francis Lee was suspended for that fight with Norman Hunter. Had a lot of injuries as well as the dodgy ref!

  • I was 10 years old and this round with Derby County is unforgettable. We thought we were out but won 5-1 at home. How could I find the whole match video?

  • Same linesman who gave the 3rd goal for England in the 1966 world cup final, what a legend!

  • Heh, Lee Won Pen again.

  • LOL

  • Real Madrid won this eliminatory by beating them 5-1 in Spain.

  • Derbys greatest goal..Nice one Charlie.

  • *** Cloughies Black and White Army ***

  • Or "Dave Mackay's White and Blue Army", as they were by 1975.

  • 0:21

Pffffffftttt!!, I couldn't hit a ball with my RIGHT like THAT!

  • What a terrible terrible offside call for the disallowed goal. Pirri was at least three yards onside!! Did Derby bribe the ref?

  • No but the ref in the 2nd leg was bribed. I think that was proved but too late to overturn the result.

  • Do me a massive favor and tell me more about 1970s corruption.

I saw Leeds and Milan 1973, and it was shocking stuff.....

  • Notts Florist 22 enjoy your local Derby next season with Crewe back where you belong

  • It makes me laugh hearing people say continental players introduced diving to British football. Francis Lee was the king of diving as evidenced here!

  • derby had a chinese player in this game...

    Lee Won Pen.

  • He's short, he's round, his arse drags on the ground, Sammy Lee, Sammy Lee!

  • you still went out of the cup. 5-1 to real madrid in the next leg :D

    unlucky boys :D

  • and where were you at this time, eh ?? Unlucky...

  • i dont care. a few years after this we were winning back to back eurpean cups.

  • And 30 years on what have you got to show for it? going back to league 1!

    DCFC!

  • does anyone no where i can find a new derby jersey?

  • DCFC website !

  • Can anybody tell me the line up of the Madrid team that day? Thanks

  • I like the Rams, but Pirri was NEVER offside on that play. That linesman should not have ever officiated another European match...

  • yeah terrible call...

  • I was one of the privileged fans there that night, & probably the best game I`ve ever seen. What would the likes of George, Mac Farland, Todd, Nish be worth in todays transfer market ? Mac was the best central defender ever. Charlie was the best middleman / striker ever ! Halcyon days !

  • 4.12 our defenders were class in creating that goal. Roy MacFarland one of the best ever!

  • Let´s hope this hasn´t been the last glorious European night at Derby. That was an excellent game. (By the way, Franco was agonizing by those days) From a Atletico Madrid supporter.

  • always liked derby, hope to see them back in the premier soon

  • I was there - One of the best nights and most exciting games I have ever seen. An excellent Madrid side were a little unlucky (especially with that 'offside goal'), but we were magnificent.

I can almost forgive Rod Thomas for the second leg - Just not quite LOL

  • wot league are forest in o yeah league 1 hahahahahah

  • 4-1

  • Yeh that was then... Who are they now

    Who are Madrid now

Lets just hope Derby get back up ey

  • Great Video!!

What a day for Derby County!!!!!!!

  • your mother = a drunk bitch who likes to suck my coc

  • You gotta grow a cock first, fucking cunt

  • and you are stupid, HALA MADRID!!!

  • And what are you then?

And what does your comment has to do with past-days soccer?

  • Wow! Derby County was pretty good back in the '70's.

Derby has more tradition than I thought.

What has gone wrong for Derby? They were good in the '70's and have slipped badly.

Derby need to have a wealthy guy, like Chelsea's Abramovich, buy into the team. Then Derby can start signing some world class players. They aren't as bad off as teams like Leicester, Southampton, and Leeds United.

  • I'd rather they had a smaller investment and did it with good coaching/scouting skills.

They should have built on the Clough/Taylor partnership but the board at the time put a stop to that.

  • Derby can have scouts assigned to Africa and South America. That would be a great start to them acquiring better talent.

Between Africa and South America if Derby can discover great young talent there before bigger clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, it would be a big plus for them

There's top talent in South America's Copa Libertadores Champions League that Derby could go after. Derby can promise South American players they would start most every game

  • South American star player Kerlon would be great for Derby, but Manchester United has already found him.

Derby needs to have top notch scouts there. It will be impossible for Derby to convince Kerlon to play for them rather than Manchester United.

  • spanish twat, piss off back 2 spain.Oh and dont go anywhere near chadd.

  • We just beat Barca 4-1 and have won back to back titles.

    Where are you?

  • When was the last time Derby County had 30 league titles and 9 champions league titles?

oh wait....you are relegated again. Something that has never happened to us.

  • Well we don't millions of pounds to spend!

  • when was the last time Derby cheated by buying the ref in a european cup semi-final..oh wait..we've never..only Real Madrid does that.

  • when was the last time Derby actually qualified for the european cup?

oh wait, half a century ago.

If we played you now, you would shut down your club in shame. 0-6 at home to astone villa????

imagine the damage we could inflict upon your weak, pathetic, relegated ass.

We could buy your entire club for 1% of our funds you pathetic bastard.

  • But you can't buy class. Remind which league is more corrupt, the Italian or the Spainish.

And you write English very well for a Spainiard, it has to be said..from what part of Madrid are you from?

  • But you can't buy class. Remind me, which league is more corrupt, the Italian or the Spainish? I'm certain most of Real Madrid's success has come from cheating and bribery.

And you write English very well for a Spainiard, it has to be said..from what part of Madrid are you from?

  • The italian is much more corrupt. Hence why Juventus were relegated last season

Barcelona are far more corrupt, Madrid are actually the "good guys" of the european heavyweights.

It would be nice to see DERBY actually WIN a game, maybe then you can stop being jealous of the best club of the 20th century.

  • Maybe you can hold an argument together if your club could actually play football..

Meanwhile we are about to win our 31st liga title, back to back. If you actually paid attention to the league, you would see this was done through brilliance, unlike derby.

WE are the team being corrupted against you jealous cunt.

  • Dude!! are you English? if so, how many times have you been to the Bernabeu?

Derby may not be on top of the world, but it's a well known fact our fans are the best in England..you'd have to be with what we put up with. But at leat we're not glory hunters.

  • all losers bring up the glory hunter tale

and I am in fact Spanish, I teach it as a foreign language in your country. For your information I am a season ticket holder and I fly back every weekend I possibly can to see my family and watch.

So if derby ever turned around their crapness and won the league, you are not a glory supporter?

I had a choice whether to support Atletico or Real....hmmmmm a hard decision. I may want to cheer a victory now and then....

  • you are a dumbass... a complete dumbass... glory supporting retard... we have the best fans in england,.... which is the BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD... retard or how many foreign teams are in the champions league final??:S

lets see how we perform in 3 years dumbass.

  • oh yeah?? but where is ur so-called clean derby..?? haha.. got sunk and still sinking.. like a broken ship..u nuts.. haha.. may be it will take a whole century for ur team to qualify for champions league.. haha.. get used to be stink, fool and don't touch real madrid.. coz i will come down and u will be so so sorry at that time

  • any1 got the 2nd leg?

  • Hope not! lol

  • I was there rooting for m

  • m....cfarland by any chance? He was a good Rams player...thanks for supporting the Rams mate on that night...specially Roy McFarland!!!

  • What a tragedy to win against Real 4-1 and to lose the second game in Madrid 5-1!

Madrid repeat that in the 80's against Gladbach (1-5 and 4-0)!

  • Yea...too bad. Oh well good luck with the Champions League this year....oh, you lost.

  • Hahaha!

Sorry but I am not a R. Madrid fan.

I'm fan of Hamburg and Liverpool!

  • Liverpool ok...Hamburg? I would stick to Hamburgers if I were you! lol

  • It was no fluke; Nish, McFarland, Hector and Rioch would have been good enough for most Real Madrid sides. George and Gemmill not far behind. I was/am a Leeds fan as well. Always liked Barry Davies as commentator (and Gerald Sinstadt)

  • I'm loving the no BBC logo! or timer!

  • Was expecting a great performance but looks like a fluke in truth. Two pens one shocking goalkeeping error and a disallowed Real goal about 3 feet onside. Great goal by George to kick things off mind.

  • Barry Davis!

  • La vuelta el madrid le endosó un 5-1 y se clasifico.

  • Hard to believe players in the 70s were twentysomethings. They always look 40+. :)

By the way I want to find a commentary with Motson shouting "HECCCTOR - ONE NIL!"

  • More like Coleman surely ?

  • derby:four-real madrid one

    4-1

  • That has surely got to be the same russian linesman from the 1966 world cup final!

  • True, it's him, Mr. Bachramov [Bakhramov]

  • Man, what a excuses...Real madrid is 9 times european champions, and derby county?, Maybe Real won second match because was better team, isnt?

  • And the dodgy ref...lol

  • Real madrid come back that eliminatory at Bernabeu in the second match.

  • Frannie Lee was suspended, lots of injuries...dodgy ref (who admitted years later he was bribed) other than that...well done!

  • that was never ever ever offside lol

  • lol Derby beating Madrid

  • We would have got through but for dodgy ref and Francis Lee being suspended in 2nd leg.

  • and let's not forget giving credit to Santillana's hat trick... I mean, the man knew how to head the ball, mind you

  • The ref was bribed for the 2nd leg...he admitted it.

  • and yet UEFA did not suspend Real Madrid for like 5 years from European competition... do you have a tape of the ref admitting so, or is this one of those myth-making excuses?

  • He admitted it years later when he was out of the game. Similar when Derby played Juventus in semi-final 1973.

  • yes, but some of these individuals admit these half-truths, stories that appeal to the TV networks very much who in many an occasion have put money down for a cheap lie... the more controversy, the more coverage, the higher the ratings... and by the way, just by looking at the 1st leg of the Derby vs Real contest, don't you think disallowing Pirri's perfectly legal goal - that would have tied the contest - does not invite the argument that perhaps that game was also rigged at Real's expense?

  • No, Madrid were and still are a more powerful club. Anyway thse comments are too controversial...I am going to delete.

  • awesome! never ever seen any footage from the game. maybe derby were good once

  • wot league are forest in o yeah league 1 hahahahahah

  • nffcgirl must hurt you to think tht all ur little clubs success was acheived by a self conffessed derby man and rams fan who lived and died in derby OUCH......

  • Atmosphere 2nd to none....specially the evening games.

  • voir le zidane âgé 7 le pliant lui envoyant le chèque mes vds

See zidane aged 7 bending it sending it check out my vds

  • mui bueno

  • yeah they stuffed us second leg but still... we not as small as people make out!! were premier league unlike forest! ya 2 champs league trophys mean nothin in league 1 hahaha Rot In Peace

  • You mean you actually had a sniff of europe, had it snatched away from under your noses, then have to watch your beloved manager take your hated rivals to europe and win the cup with them TWICE?

    Ouch......

  • Got to admit Cloughie did wonders at Forest. Not a Forest hater at all but I was jealous at the time!

  • DERBY COUNTY! LMAO

  • Yes thats correct....Derby County. Latest news...Leeds have been deducted 15 points from the start of the new season. They could be no more this time next year...we hope.

  • Heaven and Earth apart from today's soccer game. In techniques, speed, attitude, mood, etc.

  • Nice stuff... We need to see this kind of videos on youtube...

  • vntr2006, you smoke?? This video is yours and you didnt see it?? Two "incredibles" penaltis for Derby, and a Pirri's goal injustly canceled 5:56...the ref bribed?? Yes, maybe in this match.

  • Manuel - "Me see ref was given 1 million pesatas for the 2nd leg...make Real win"

Basil - "Don't worry zikutamix....Manuel get smack on head for that comment."

  • Man de second match, in bernabeu REAL MADRID 5 DERBY COUNTY 1, THE REAL OF THE COME BACKS....

  • Good comeback yes but....The ref was bribed...we had Francis Lee suspended and lots of injuries. Even Manuel, the waiter out of Fawlty Towers agreed!

  • vaya golazo de pirri , bueno la jugada...

  • sorry lads... two weeks later Real Madrid punched hard and settled the score: 5-1 with a field day by Santillana!

  • Frannie Lee was suspended due to the bust-up with Norman Hunter...distrupted the team...also had loads of injuries. Apparantly the ref admitted he was bribed for the 2nd leg.

  • well, the first leg did not look too genuine to me, pal... two dubious penalties and a perfectly legal goal by Pirri that got mercilessly disallowed by a highly incompetent ref...

  • Maybe it was the same ref and he was trying to even things up in the 2nd leg!

  • LOL... what every happened to Derby County? They were so good!

  • Bad board descisions....made Clougie leave and MacKay got the sack the season after the one the clip is from. 80's came good with Arthur Cox but the money from Maxwell dried up....came good again in the 90/2000's but Steve McClaren leaving as assistant messed things up for Jim Smith. Now back in the big time. Never a dull moment supporting the Rams thats for sure.

  • Is Cloughie the same guy who took Nottingham Forest to European glory? that is sad... some good teams have succumbed in the depths of second divisions: Leeds and Nottingham Forest in England come to mind... in Spain it just happened with Real Sociedad (hard to believe) and there are team like Alaves, Malaga and Rayo Vallecano that were traditionally 1st devision teams

  • Peachy

Stood in the Ossie End that night, the best game I`ve witnessed, & the best goal ever seen from Charlie George. What a game that was !

  • hate to say it but what a soft penalty...

    oh well incredible night!

would love to get hold of a derby shirt from this time

  • Prefer the 2nd leg myself :P

  • The match was a great night for me at Derby. I have emigrated to Eire and listened to them on radio getting in to the Premiership again. Good luck to them ! To me Kevin Hector was the best.

  • ihave the 2nd.leg resume.Santillana punish Derby Team with a hattrick.Great moments of football.

High quality of images in this case.

  • Great stuff . Remeember this great game.

I think there was rumours that the ref was bought for the return game.

    RAMBOHS

    DUBLIN

  • Yes something stank about that 2nd leg. Also due to Frannie Lee's bust up with Norman Hunter, he was banned for the 2nd leg.

  • Yeh, and I also think Cloughie had the local fire station load the pitch with water to make it heavy for Real Madrid

  • Dave Mackay was manager for this match. The Baseball ground pitch did not need watering...always waterlogged and muddy!

  • Yeah , thats right m thw old iron man himself.

Remember the bad pitch too. Tommy Doherty said it was not fit for horses

  • nice.

  • Great video. I have emigrated to Eire and have just shown it to an Irish lad aged 19. It was a magic night at Derby.

  • just came across this download recently and noticed your comment. I showed it to my 9 year old nephew.

See you emigrated here to Ireland and there I was wishing I was living in Derby in those glorious days.

  • super derby great video just to echo other comments it was a massive injustice to lose in madrid especially since the ref admitted years after to taking a bribe! same old hard luck, chin up were still above forest!

  • How come you can't get that DCFC shirt on TOFFS?

  • Thanks for the video. I was at this great match and like most Derby fans was shocked by the 5-1 defeat in Madrid. Limerick in Eire also lost 5-1 in Madrid.

  • too bad derby always got screwed on the away legs...first juventus then real...gotta love charlie's perm though :)

  • In the Blue and White, cus Cloughie 'faniced seeing England coming out every ssaturday'

Bring back the old days ^^

  • Wow, Derby really was the ish!!!! Great highlight

  • Got that...will post soon...watch this space!

  • Great memories - thanks for posting this ! Do you have the FA Cup game against Newcastle from the same season ? Derby won 4-2.
