Way to go Obama. You created a program that ruined thousands of good vehicles that many poor and underprivileged families could have used. How hard would it have been to do this program so that those who were close to getting a new vehicle could, then sell all the "clunkers" at lower than blue book value so that many families who couldn't have afforded a vehicle would be able to get one. Selling these vehicles would have helped cover the cost of the program and stimulated the economy.

It still runs great after 2000 miles. I'm really thankful of her. As a payment I am maintaining her vehicles that she owns now (The only thing I could do for free).

That truck is worth well over $4500 in just the work it can do ALONE, let alone its own value. My old '87 F-250 460 is making me tons of money just hauling logs, trailers, whatever I want. Ford tough, no. Engine is loose as hell, worn out. Thats why it took so long to lock. If an engine still has tight tolerances, good ring seal, it'll only take about 15 sec.

I don't need a V8 or chrome or leather seats or any of that other shit. I bought my truck to haul and do work, plain and simple, and still get decent gas mileage. And I wanted the stick shift, so the Chevy/GMC weren't even an option; and I preferred the Dodge 6 Spd to the Ford 5 Spd.

@bigorangetrucker Well, let's see. I never go off road, and having worked two years of construction, I can tell you that 90% of work trucks are 2WD. I use mine to haul stuff in the bed, and mine has a 1500lbs payload, which is more than I've ever needed. And my 6cyl makes 215hp and 235ftlbs of torque, more than I need, and the 6 Speed Manual makes the most efficient use out of it. I do my work and still average 18-19mpg daily! And I haven't had one problem, so junk? i don't think so.
@bigorangetrucker I don't think that 6 OR 4 cyl engines are to be underestimated. They just have different purposes. It isn't uncommon to get 300,000 miles out of 4.0L Ford V6 or an old 300CID I6. and those things will tow a lot. A 90's 4.0L has more horsepower than an old carborated 460, and just look at how much people towed with those. I myself prefer a little more power for towing horses and hay which is why we use an EFI 460, like the one above.

All their diesel engine they buy from someone else, Like dodge buying Cummins. You can not say anything bad about cummins, because they are OWNED by Ford. I like Ford trucks the best, but I dont think they make the best engines and I know that they've almost never made a good HD automatic transmission. The C6 was OK.
The only way i could even dream of my 89' F250 with a 460 going through that is if i could find a wat to trade it for one of the vehicles that is going to be wasted before it is traded...my truck has 365000 miles on it and the only things that work are the drivetrain, and the radio...you can't find a strait panel on it, half the exhaust is missing, and the windshield is loose...it still goes down the road reliably though

in 1987, my family bought a 1978 Ford F150 with a 460, at that time it had 140,000 miles on it. we used as a daily driver from 1993-2007, as well pulled campers, car trailers, people out of ditches, even a loaded down full sized P30 Chevy step van once.
after three C6 transmissions, three radiators, two differentals,and two front doors, it now has 497,000 miles on the original engine. still runs ok, but retired cause of piston slap. wating to be restored, so it can go another 500,000!!!!

I've finally killed off all the clunkers on our lot. 57 cars done, and the hardest to kill was a early 90s non-turbo diesel Ford. 0 oil pressure and loaded with 4 quarts of silicate, ran for 10 minutes at WOT before I started hearing any evil noises (started with valve noise) 15 minutes in, rod knock. 28 minutes in, finally gives out to the silicate.

I've been reading all of these anti cash for clunker and anti obama comments and I have to weigh in. 1st, cash for clunkers wasn't forced on anybody, it was completely optional. 2nd, Obama isn't a Nazi or socialist or whatever everybody's been saying. 3rd, you don't have to buy a "jap" car, there are domestics which get good mileage as well.

I don't need a V8 or chrome or leather seats or any of that other shit. I bought my truck to haul and do work, plain and simple, and still get decent gas mileage. And I wanted the stick shift, so the Chevy/GMC weren't even an option; and I preferred the Dodge 6 Spd to the Ford 5 Spd.

@bigorangetrucker Well, let's see. I never go off road, and having worked two years of construction, I can tell you that 90% of work trucks are 2WD. I use mine to haul stuff in the bed, and mine has a 1500lbs payload, which is more than I've ever needed. And my 6cyl makes 215hp and 235ftlbs of torque, more than I need, and the 6 Speed Manual makes the most efficient use out of it. I do my work and still average 18-19mpg daily! And I haven't had one problem, so junk? i don't think so.

@bigorangetrucker I don't think that 6 OR 4 cyl engines are to be underestimated. They just have different purposes. It isn't uncommon to get 300,000 miles out of 4.0L Ford V6 or an old 300CID I6. and those things will tow a lot. A 90's 4.0L has more horsepower than an old carborated 460, and just look at how much people towed with those. I myself prefer a little more power for towing horses and hay which is why we use an EFI 460, like the one above.

All their diesel engine they buy from someone else, Like dodge buying Cummins. You can not say anything bad about cummins, because they are OWNED by Ford. I like Ford trucks the best, but I dont think they make the best engines and I know that they've almost never made a good HD automatic transmission. The C6 was OK.

The only way i could even dream of my 89' F250 with a 460 going through that is if i could find a wat to trade it for one of the vehicles that is going to be wasted before it is traded...my truck has 365000 miles on it and the only things that work are the drivetrain, and the radio...you can't find a strait panel on it, half the exhaust is missing, and the windshield is loose...it still goes down the road reliably though

in 1987, my family bought a 1978 Ford F150 with a 460, at that time it had 140,000 miles on it. we used as a daily driver from 1993-2007, as well pulled campers, car trailers, people out of ditches, even a loaded down full sized P30 Chevy step van once.
after three C6 transmissions, three radiators, two differentals,and two front doors, it now has 497,000 miles on the original engine. still runs ok, but retired cause of piston slap. wating to be restored, so it can go another 500,000!!!!

Economies are built from people serving their fellow man. C4C pays them to NOT serve while punishing tax payers, who DID serve and now get nothing for it. I've finally killed off all the clunkers on our lot. 57 cars done, and the hardest to kill was a early 90s non-turbo diesel Ford. 0 oil pressure and loaded with 4 quarts of silicate, ran for 10 minutes at WOT before I started hearing any evil noises (started with valve noise) 15 minutes in, rod knock. 28 minutes in, finally gives out to the silicate.

Now when I finally get money to buy a used engine and tranny from the junkyard, they are all getting destroyed and I won't be able to buy one. if gas prices were not so high, it woudint matter, my friend has a 2004 f-150 5.4, long box, costs $90-$100 to fill at over 90/cents a liter and he can get 900 kms-1000 per tank. Chevron's new hybrid only does 1100 i seen the commercial, so wtf do ford rock or what?

C4C: Smart Politics. If Congress taxes you $500 to create auto jobs, the victims are invisible and are only revealed by asking what you would have done with the $500 if left in your hands. Your own spending would have created jobs too but you can't point to who the beneficiaries would have been. They're invisible. Politicians love making victims of their policies invisible & beneficiaries visible because the beneficiaries will know who to vote for and victims won't know who to blame.

C4C Dumb Economics: Any so-called stimulus program is a ruse. Government increases its spending only by reducing private spending equivalently. Whether government finances its added spending by hiking taxes, borrowing, or by inflating the currency, the added spending will be offset by reduced private spending. Plus, private spending's much more efficient than government spending replacing it because people act more carefully spending their own money than spending other people's money.

The people that traded in all these nice trucks for cash for clunkers are idiots. I guess I will keep driving my smoke belching F150, since all the cheap trucks and used engines are gone. At least if I get into a accident I will survive unlike those people that traded in suburbans and full size trucks for riceburner Kia Rios, and Prius.

ok two questions ..... why dont they just burn out until the engine quits whith the glass in the engine or why dont they just drill holes all over the block that would be much more practicle and this is stupid anyway cuz there is like 20 ford explorers out at our local junkyards and new cars dont get much better gas milage than a explorer and plus its a 460 man i would love to have a 460 in my torino
