In recent time 2010- 2012 ,A.A has become less n less about story and more about the jokes mixed with a little adult humor, Regular show. On the other hand anime focus' on super humanizing most characters .

Even James Rolfe (AVGN) mentioned those in his TMNT review. Things like bandanas having wierd colours, backgrounds missing and so on.
Thats why I just opt to read the manga instead. Try and find a library with manga, there arent many though, but Im a little lucky; its in my school XD And I know shounen isnt your thing, but OP has all that (except for the long bit).

Yes I did, and its true. Even though its nothing complex, the characters all have a backstory, and all have a goal they wish to reach. But thats just shounen.
I did not state shounen was the best, its simply my favourite (Because it also has the ability to incorporate many other genres into it, romance, drama, ecchi etc.).

@Sogekingist I don't have a genre I prefer. But Shounen just isn't my thing. There's no way I can watch a 300+ anime knowing some of those episodes are just fillers. I like anime with : a) good plot; b) likable characters; c) not too long; and optionally being funny.
@KillYoFam97 You have to watch more than Pokemon to like anime...and if you watch something other than Pokemon and still don't like it, try watching the original Japanese version with English subs. The Japanese voices are better than the American ones in my opinion.
ur facts are wrong.......... disney wasnt the 1st people to create animation look up fleischer studios.... the 1st form of anime created by tazuka i think.... was inspired from fleicher studios ideas.... betty boop and things like that.... the whole big anime eyes style came from fleicher because it was a popular thing back in the day...... Even when America did an almost anime show (Avatar) it still looked better then most anime shows in Japan.
Often it depends on the show. Some shows can afford the budget to make epic animation. But honestly I prefer American animation cause the movements flow better and the mouth flaps are more realistic.
I place a lot of emphasis on plot, American stuff just dont have good ones :(
Anime has a lot of the generic "high school slice of life" shows. Mostly boring.
Then there are the Shounen genre. Id recommend something like One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist. This is my favourite type of anime as they have a lot of humour and action, and with it a good plot.

Most of american and western animation is probably apocryphal. Means you got find it. I suggest watching Osmosis Jones, Titan AE, Megas XLR, The Iron Giant, Samurai Jack, Static Shock. yeah the list goes on.
Have you ever watched cartoons? Really, I know a lot of american cartoons that are very well animated with great dialog. Avatar, Sonic Shock, Jackie Chan Adventures, Spongebob. You have to search to find good ones but there are plenty out there, whereas anime is always so damn serious with silly voices. But that's just my opinion, the only anime I watch is Studio Ghibli work

Personally i say that Anime is better then American animated cartoons. since A) there is an actual plot to most every anime that works and is developed unlike how in america its constant episode after episode of with no real plot only aiming to be funny. B) yes the animation tends to be better. C) they aren't as hush hush about the content they show in comparison to american animation having obvious censors. D) Anime is consistent in episodes with new episodes on a weekly basis.

Anime and American shows all have their pros and cons. There are many of both that suck, but only a few of each that are great. I also liked the 1994 Spider-Man Animated Series, but the last season of it was pretty bad.
You are right that the Japanese treat their manga as an art form while we see it as just a kids thing. It's not, and I think the Simpsons proved that.
American animation is no different from anime basically. All of the things said about anime (they have unrealistic eyes and stuff like that), are things that american animation is guilty of to. It is pointless to hate anime for the same things you seem to like american animation for. People love the way peter griffin and homer simpson look So whats the big deal about anime art style?
@CookieMONSTERisFULL In the way they are drawn they are not that much different in the basic concepts. The idea is they are both unrealistic in how they look. And passion is something not applied only to american animation. What we have are two different styles of "unrealistic" art.

IF you think naruto holds a candle to Disney animation, you're insane. Don;t get me wrong, i love anime, but when it comes to quality, American animation is better. U.S animation tend to keep their characters moving, and most of the time their characters lips actual sync to the voice, while with anime its cheap flaps. Nothing but :D :| :D :| :D :|... @TheGalaxyFilms2 I have. its the Same thing, mouth Flaps. In some rare segments the lips will sync, very rare. But 98 percent of the time, it's mouth Flaps. Very few Animes sync, like Movies made by hayo.

as i kid, i watched loads of anime thinking it was american cartoons! pokemon, dragonball z, yu-gi-oh, avatar (the last airbender) all anime, and i didnt realise! theres most likely way more than that, and ppl who bash anime now, probably really liked those shows growing up

And Fate/Zero?? OMG!! I didn't expect it will be animated this year!!! I just google that last time, Fate/Zero is known for it's prequel for the anime Fate Stay Night, I read the forums said that TYpemoon Studios and Ufotable Productions will be the producers of that anime. I'm expecting that it is serious, not childish, doesn't have Fan Service, and epic battles between Saber(girl Arthur) and Berserker(Hercules). I already know the whole story of it because i read the novel.

They really need to make more shows like the Justice League and the Batman series. Hopefully DC gets work on them when they get their movies made. And when it comes to the quality of the animation, these shows IMO beat most of the animes that I've seen.

cartoon intros just take clips from the show and put them all together with a really crappy song. anime intros are all made up (not clips from the show) and have better songs composed by popular artists/bands. .........listen to takanashi yasuharu's music, he really defines EPIC

Anime wins, because if you watch the Japanese versions, instead of the English EDITED bullshit, you'll see that anime is much better, like instead of a punch in the face and he falls to the floor, you get some blood, Pokemon has guns in it, and the storyline is much better, the english even edits out the swears

@DoomRider101 Hmmm. I think that depends. If swearing fits the character(take for exaple, some muscle bound truck driver), then I guess it would even be expected. But sometimes, depending on the subbers, making a character swear is just OOC for them(like some shy, normally good mannered japanese school girl). Bad language can be funny, like creative insults, but 'fuck' in it self doesn't guarantee funny. Most of the time it just gives an image of an immature teen.
Yeah, on Naruto Hidan curses like hell but he's not an immature teen, he's like in his 20's, but he doesn't just blurt out "fuck" when he feels like it, I mean he's an immortal devil worshiper so when he gets his head cut off its just "kakuzu can you come over here and fix my head pretty please?" when his head is fixed and kakuzu said not to move his neck around too much or the stitches will fail "Kakuzu, go eat a dick!" total change in personality so that was kinda funny imo

American cartoons focus on animations and more realistic movements. And they are more for kids. Anime is more for adults. Yes, some anime sucks, and has crappy animations, but that is just some. And anime has more visual quality, higher graphics and more art. Anime is made the traditional way. That takes longer time and more work.
I am not a person that just used 30 minutes that googled, gathered some information and watched 1 or 2 animations.

Neither is better than the others. It all comes down to personal taste. I'm an anime fan more than cartoons. Anime in my opinion offers a wider range of characters, stories, awesome music and I love the art style . Plus it isn't as censored. I've tried to get into American Cartoons and Comics, but I just can't.

@hotaru1able that is somewhat agreeable but the only reason the mouthes dont move much in anime is because of dubbing (remember anime is originally in japanese but if it is eventually dubbed in english there may be problems with talking animations ). Though there are a few crazy fans the only reason the fans dont ever shut the fuck up is because most people who insult anime don't really know what they are talking about.
Quality? They are completely 2 different types of animation and aim at different audiences, so you cant really compare the quality there. American cartoon aim at young audiences whereas anime are made for a range of audiences from middle aged man to little children. Also take consideration for gender, and cultural aim as well

anime has lower framerates because it is the format that supports japanese television vs american televisions have higher framerates. frame rates has nothing to do with quality. who gives a damn if anime has cheap budget tricks so far as animating, if they can animate something like neon genisis evangelion or full metal alchemist and it can still look clean with good animation then that really says something about quality..
now so far as old school cartoons in the 90s, anime will never top all those cartoons EVER! but so far as cartoons today in the past 10 years? anime ftw. anime has higher quality animation, from coloring, to background art, to the stories and different styles, and storyline. lol they screwed ren and stimpy up the ass yeah they did! i loved that show its was a work of art. but animation here in america has really gotton mediocre in the past 10 years. long live the 90s cartoons.

In my opinion I'm going to say anime. People say that the animation is better than anime's, but surely it's the show itself that matters? I for one like animated things better than live action, and most of America's aren't for my age. Anime has all age groups and they have great variety, romance, action, and just about everything else. They also have a great style for doing people, Ichigo for example looks a lot more badass than any American show char I've seen. I find them a lot more emotional.

Ozamu Tesuka who started all based his drawing on Diney´s, the reason why anime characters has big and expresive eyes is because Disney did it first.

I try to both call them cartoons, but you can't judge it on any goddamn level. They both have GENRES. Although, most of American cartoons are comedies. But I digress. I like anime, hell Cowboy Bebop might be the greatest anime story ever told. But, I also LOVE King of the Hill, The Boondocks, and the Simpsons.
Actually, The art in Anime is better than in American cartoons... BUT... Anime has choppy frame by frame looking animation, American animation is smoother. So really its in a way, a tie. Dont say Americans are lazy, because Japanese are somewhat lazy too for not taking the time to animate the art better because its so complex. Americans are lazy to not make the art better... so its even.
American art isn't even "lazy." You can find good art in "serious" American cartoons like Boondocks, newer X-men, and Marvel/DC animations/movies.
Many American cartoons are SUPPOSED to look silly because comedy shows are supposed to have the viewer laughing simply from looking at the character.
ALSO, most "AMERICAN" cartoons are actually animated in ASIA. That's correct. Even Ed, Edd and Eddy was animated in Korea. Comedy shows INTENTIONALLY look the way they do.
I gave up on American Animation after Cartoon Network got rid of all its old cartoons.

Even when America did an almost anime show (Avatar) it still looked better then most anime shows in Japan.
Often it depends on the show. Some shows can afford the budget to make epic animation. But honestly I prefer American animation cause the movements flow better and the mouth flaps are more realistic.

Anime has a lot of the generic "high school slice of life" shows. Mostly boring.
Then there are the Shounen genre. Id recommend something like One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist. This is my favourite type of anime as they have a lot of humour and action, and with it a good plot.

Have you ever watched cartoons? Really, I know a lot of american cartoons that are very well animated with great dialog. Avatar, Sonic Shock, Jackie Chan Adventures, Spongebob. You have to search to find good ones but there are plenty out there, whereas anime is always so damn serious with silly voices. But that's just my opinion, the only anime I watch is Studio Ghibli work

Personally i say that Anime is better then American animated cartoons. since A) there is an actual plot to most every anime that works and is developed unlike how in america its constant episode after episode of with no real plot only aiming to be funny. B) yes the animation tends to be better. C) they aren't as hush hush about the content they show in comparison to american animation having obvious censors. D) Anime is consistent in episodes with new episodes on a weekly basis.

Anime and American shows all have their pros and cons. There are many of both that suck, but only a few of each that are great. I also liked the 1994 Spider-Man Animated Series, but the last season of it was pretty bad.
You are right that the Japanese treat their manga as an art form while we see it as just a kids thing. It's not, and I think the Simpsons proved that.

IF you think naruto holds a candle to Disney animation, you're insane. Don;t get me wrong, i love anime, but when it comes to quality, American animation is better. In anime 99% of the characters are structured as humans with bug eyes and weird shit around them. @DoomRider101 Hmmm. I think that depends. If swearing fits the character(take for exaple, some muscle bound truck driver), then I guess it would even be expected. But sometimes, depending on the subbers, making a character swear is just OOC for them(like some shy, normally good mannered japanese school girl). Bad language can be funny, like creative insults, but 'fuck' in it self doesn't guarantee funny. Most of the time it just gives an image of an immature teen.

American cartoons focus on animations and more realistic movements. And they are more for kids. Anime is more for adults. Yes, some anime sucks, and has crappy animations, but that is just some. And anime has more visual quality, higher graphics and more art. Anime is made the traditional way. That takes longer time and more work.

anime - more artisticaly detailed, better sound desighn, often better stories
american animation - better animation (they actually animate the fucking mouthes), more easy to access here in the states, fewer rabbid fanboys who never shut the fuck up
i will admit it, i personality like anime more...i dont know but it just seems to be a personal preference

@hotaru1able that is somewhat agreeable but the only reason the mouthes dont move much in anime is because of dubbing (remember anime is originally in japanese but if it is eventually dubbed in english there may be problems with talking animations ). Though there are a few crazy fans the only reason the fans dont ever shut the fuck up is because most people who insult anime don't really know what they are talking about.

Quality? They are completely 2 different types of animation and aim at different audiences, so you cant really compare the quality there. American cartoon aim at young audiences whereas anime are made for a range of audiences from middle aged man to little children. Also take consideration for gender, and cultural aim as well

besides if cartoons here were so much better then audiences and the industry would reflect that. cartoons today are so bad, even kids dont watch them. if our western animation is so "superior" then why directors here having a lot of our comic series animated in anime form in the east? if western animation was so superior why couldnt we just animate our own shit?

anime has lower framerates because it is the format that supports japanese television vs american televisions have higher framerates. frame rates has nothing to do with quality. who gives a damn if anime has cheap budget tricks so far as animating, if they can animate something like neon genisis evangelion or full metal alchemist and it can still look clean with good animation then that really says something about quality..

now so far as old school cartoons in the 90s, anime will never top all those cartoons EVER! but so far as cartoons today in the past 10 years? anime ftw. anime has higher quality animation, from coloring, to background art, to the stories and different styles, and storyline. lol they screwed ren and stimpy up the ass yeah they did! i loved that show its was a work of art. but animation here in america has really gotton mediocre in the past 10 years. long live the 90s cartoons.

i understand youre point of view clearly and from all the videos around u are the most sane of them. but what i dont understand is why do ppl compare anime whit cartoons? cartoons are based on entertainment and comedy while anime is more related to a plot.i gotta give u that invader zim was awesome and about manga there are some good mangas out there check out vinland saga , berserk , gantz and some more i dont remember

In my opinion I'm going to say anime. People say that the animation is better than anime's, but surely it's the show itself that matters? I for one like animated things better than live action, and most of America's aren't for my age. Anime has all age groups and they have great variety, romance, action, and just about everything else. They also have a great style for doing people, Ichigo for example looks a lot more badass than any American show char I've seen. I find them a lot more emotional.

You do realize that anime is based on american animation right?
Ozamu Tesuka who started all based his drawing on Diney´s, the reason why anime characters has big and expresive eyes is because Disney did it first.
And you shouldnt jus compare animations, take note that anime in japan takes the place of movies, tv series, cartoons, meaning most of their fiction is animated.
In short, comparison is impossible, just grab and enjoy as much as you can.

I try to both call them cartoons, but you can't judge it on any goddamn level. They both have GENRES. Although, most of American cartoons are comedies. But I digress. I like anime, hell Cowboy Bebop might be the greatest anime story ever told. But, I also LOVE King of the Hill, The Boondocks, and the Simpsons.

Actually, The art in Anime is better than in American cartoons... BUT... Anime has choppy frame by frame looking animation, American animation is smoother. So really its in a way, a tie. Dont say Americans are lazy, because Japanese are somewhat lazy too for not taking the time to animate the art better because its so complex. Americans are lazy to not make the art better... so its even.

American art isn't even "lazy." You can find good art in "serious" American cartoons like Boondocks, newer X-men, and Marvel/DC animations/movies.
Many American cartoons are SUPPOSED to look silly because comedy shows are supposed to have the viewer laughing simply from looking at the character.
ALSO, most "AMERICAN" cartoons are actually animated in ASIA. That's correct. Even Ed, Edd and Eddy was animated in Korea. Comedy shows INTENTIONALLY look the way they do.
