How do the strings feel? I've played with floyd rose' at a music store once and the string felt really lose like it was tuned to Bb but it was in E. I didn't like that because i felt like I had no controll. but other floyd rose were fine. was this due to poor set up or is it a common problem? i have a kahler spyder (pretty much floyd rose) I'd like to set it up. But I'd like more info if anyone has any!
Hey, nice vid. Do you know if the problem with the intonation during string bendings is also present in the fixed version of the Kahler bridge (the 7330 model or 3300)? I mean, the problem is present only in the tremolo versions?.
i rotate the mounting stouds after loosen all the strings and then i move the bridge so the bridge is not doing friction to the mounting stouds then i rotate the mounting stouds
The idea that more wood equals more sustain is a myth. The same goes for the weight myth. If these were true, an acoustic guitar would have bad tone and no sustain. Thanks for debunking these myths!
@5thhokage113 its because wen u bend it puts tension on a particular string and when u divebomb it equals the tension bringing it back in tune to an extent. i know it sounds stupid but its true
i used the ZR tremolo of Ibanez some years ago and i broke it twice with to much dive-bombing etc. so i just dont use it anymore. did that happen often to users of Kahler/Floyd Rose??
I've been using fixed bridge guitars all my years of playing, and just recently got 2 guitars, one with a floyd, and one with a kahler. I can definitely say that I play my Kahler 90% of the time. In my personal opinion, I think Floyds are absolutely amazing, and do a great job at what they're supposed to do. But hey, if you're a fixed bridge kind of guy, and want to tinker with tremolo, Kahler's the bridge for you. Not to mention fixing a kahler is easier than pouring a bowl of soup.
@JTNorquay Wait wait? So you go ta kahler trem guitar but you want a fixed bridge? This is confusing...I wonder which one you would say is the best for tremolo use?
@Tombking2 For strictly tremolo use? definitely the floyd. However, if you want a fixed bridge guitar that you can also use as a tremolo bridge, definitely go with the Kahler.
Heres how you really fix your Kahler bending problem: since your action is low - watch out for the round head Phillips screw heads of the saddle's clamp plate screws - those are whats causing your friction during bends, you need the flat heads. Saddle risers might be the long ones also touching the string, get the saddle lowering kit. You have the wrong kit. One exists for high action, and the other kit for those who prefer low action. But this has NOTHING to do with chapstick! LOL
I think, for one, to make this a completely fair comparison, you should be using the same kind of guitar for each of them (B.C. Rich or Jackson V) because there's alot of factors that don't involve the tremolo alone. Like you said, things like the wood, how much wood is in the guitar, and the string friction.
If your shit is going out of tune, you fucking suck at setting up a Kahler. I've had a Kahler for 4 days now and figured out how to solve the problem in a matter of hours. If it's set up and lubed properly, this won't happen.
kinda not fair comparing the sustain each trem cuz they are on different guitars. cool comparison though. cool tip about the chapstick. i will try that.
@CrossHolder92 That "man" doesn't rule over me. And I look forward to the time that's coming in which he will be unmasked. Dare I say there will be Hell to pay.
@macgyver77777 Well, rules over our politicians, sort of... Dunno what your political views are like, but I don't like it one bit. Neither him nor the god-damn EU. Yes, I do think that the Ibanez ZR trem is rather nice! Dunno if it's better that an Original Floyd, though, but great never the less. The high end models at least, the Edges not so much, but still decent. But I'd choose Floyd over Khaler any day, ain't much into this chapstick/butter/pieces of wood nonsense.
The ZR is an awesome crossbreed. Doesn't enjoy the adjustability of the Kahler, but doesn't have knife edges to wear and enjoys all the tuning stability with abuse etc that a Floyd does! It's biggest limitation is "flutter" if you like to use "warbling" much.
Plenty of variety for everyone. It really comes down to what works for you...
i just got thinking the Kahler string lock is not good for floating tremolos like the Floyd or the Kahler but wouldn't it be good for standard tremolos like the Stratocaster tremolo or a Bigsby tremolo that way you keep the original nut and tone but also ad tuning stability
Which one is easier? Because of my newfaggotry, I have nearly destroyed my beautiful Jackson SL2 USA. Honestly, even if the Floyd Rose is a better tremelo, it's amount of complexity really is a pain in the ass I would rather just not deal with.
I have a Kahler a BC RIch Wartribe made in China. If I were to lock the Tremolo in so that its a fixed Bridge. And then tune it to, say, drop B or C standard tuning. Then after a while tune it back to standard(What its set up to) Would I be screwing anything up?
The sustain sounded the same, i think he was compensating with the floyd rose, the decay is quicker on the kahler but the note register was the same, also the pickups and amp and distance from the amp and pedals (if any) make a differance on the sustain aswell.
i have solved the bending/diving issue by using Big Bends' String Sleeves (cut in half), so that THEY ride the cam, & NOT the strings. i no longer have ANY probs switching between finger bending & whammy diving, and i don't even have a string lock on my lp/sg. as an added precaution, i VERY occasionally use big bend's nut sauce where the string sleeves curve around the cam. trust me, i have had NO tuning issues since doing this! i can bend & dive ALL DAY LONG, & stay in tune...
I'm Through With Vintage Tremolos!!! I Was Using One Last Night And It Sounded Like It Broke!!! I Took The Back Plate Off And The Spring Came Off, But That Wasn't The Bad Thing!!! The Bad Thing Is The Tremolo System Shattered!!! It Was Chipped And It Had Cracked!!! All I Did Was A Simple Dive Bomb And Poof... It Broke!!! No More Fender Tremolos, I'll Stick With Floyd Rose And Kahler!!!
Doesn't the sustain depend on the body of the guitar also? This would explain why your Jackson has better sustain, since it uses Alder wood rather than ye ole Maple that your BC Rich uses. Not to say the bridge doesn't play a role.

My favourite bridge is the floyd rose original tremolo. I tried an esp Alexi 600 at my local guitar shop and it has an original on it and it is da best. I am going to get it by the end of the year.
P.S it has a seymour duncan blackout (but i think it is a blackouts metal).

My floyd will be in perfect pitch and I can dive bomb all day and the bridge returns to the same spot every time. However when I bend the low E string real hard it goes flat. Any Help would be appreciated Ive tried everything I know to do.
yeah but with a floyd rose if you want to change the pickups they have to be "F-spaced" (unless it's a active or blade pickup) but with a Kahler you dont have to do that.
Thats kinda odd about the string bending. Ive never experienced that problem with my Kahler. Ive been using the same Kahler trem since 1986. Love it. much smoother than the floyd Rose. The fine tuners have a wider range than the Floyd. I would have to drop D tune on a few songs my band played. I would do it with the fine tuner. Also, when Id break a string, the rest of the strings stuck close to standard A440. You break a string on a floyd, you better have a backup guitar.
there isnt anything as the 'perfect guitar' which also means there is nothing as the perfect tremolo, i use kahler, and floyd rose, and ive been playing on them for 3 years now they are both good to me
@killeroforce the bonus for a kahler bridge is that they have models for hard tails. you could throw a kahler onto an SG or a Viper without having tonal sacrifice due to punching a hole for a floyd.
@dmometalguitar sustain is also affected by how low your action is the reason your bc rich's sustain isn't that great is because the action is lower on that than any of your other guitars and that's probly why(other than having a maple neck and body) that guitar is missing some low end
Its obvious your a Floyd fan. Good for you. Stick to what you know and I'll stick to what I know. Yes? All my video shows is simply how to adjust a Kahler setup properly. Just exactly what was dumbass about that video? Please respond, I'm sure we all want to know. The video is on my Wammi World you-tube channel if anyones interested. Please watch and respond if you think I am a dumbass too. Wammi J.
DM, Your rollers are to high on the Kahler. I can see it in the video. You can see the definite bend bend over the string roller? Especially the g string is way high. way too much. Lower your rollers or raise the bridge if you cant lower it any more. I work for Kahler. I know what i am talking about. 30 years experience.
i have a question pertaining to the kahler. is that guitar also equipped with either locking machine heads or a locking nut? because if not that may be why it goes out of tune
small question, with the kahler tremolo's, that doesnt have the springs, can you just mount it to a guitar with a tune o matic, meaning just replacing it?
A very nice option is one prefers the looser feel of a Kahler is to use a Floyd locknut...as per Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains. One thing I prefer about Kahler too is that far less wood needs to be removed for the spring cavity which helps keep the tone of the guitar intact. Cheers, and good job!
"my jackson has less wood than the kerry king war tribe yet it has less wood"LOL!!the jackson costs 2500 euros and the kerry king wartribe 999euro!!i mean cmon dude
on the floyd rose, for better tuning stability(even tho its already great) DONT CUT OFF THE BALL ENDS! put the ball end through the tuning peg, wind it, put the other end in the bridge. the ball end will be wound up around the tuning peg then and it locks it in even more.
@iBanez7rocker Holy. Shit. That's the username my friend uses.. But he wouldn't pay attention when I told him to do that... Anyways when you're putting them in backwards don't cut off the extra so if a string breaks you can just pull it through and put it back in the bridge since it usually breaks at the bridge.
@iBanez7rocker it doesnt matter if you either use locking tuners or have a good locking nut. it will keep the string from coming out completely, but it wont protect against detuning.
@iBanez7rocker But why should that matter if the strings are being locked at the nut? it shouldn't make any difference what is happening past the nut.
and on tremolo equipped guitars you want to have as few winds on the machinehead posts as possible, because if you don't have a locking nut then diving the bar slackens the windings, and when they retighten again they will likely have changed position and hence tension. so fewer winds are preferable since there is less chance of this happening.
What happened to all your vids where you are just playing & not teaching or comparing? You had all kinds of covers going; like Maiden, Slayer, Sabbath & for 10mins you would just FUCKING SHRED, going from song to song w/o a single break. I had to do some time for pistol whipping the fool that pawned my BCR Warlord & I was looking for the vids of you shredding & found nothing. Any chance of putting them back up?
My Floyd Rose bridge has the bending problem on the G string only. I can do 2 1/2 bends on most strings and it'll be perfect. On the G string, I can't even do 1/2 bends without needing to dive it to get back in tune. Don't suppose anyone has any advice? I'm thinking it may not be set up properly as it only affects the G string.
check the intonation and make sure its set up perfect. the bottom part of the bridge needs to be aligned to the body. ive heard people that it needs to be the top part of the bridge, theyre WRONG!
no offense dude, ur an amazing guitarists and ur videos are kick ass but pretty much any guitar is going to go out of tune when you bend that much, espically on a tremelo system.
omg it's been decades since the invention of tremolo systems and we didn't notice. thank you kind sir, and we all actually thought it was vibrato. wow.
is it normal that if you pluck any note at the higher frets and then make it really high that the note stops because i have this with my 3 hours old guitar lol
depends on the price of your guitar... most higher priced guitars should be set up correctly, so the fretboard isn't bent too much/less.
otherwise the neck needs to get an adjustment with the truss rod in the neck. don't do it yourself, it's a pain in the ass, give it to your local dealer, should be a 10 minute job ;)
seems to be small differences, like with strings and picks, they don't matter too much, by what i saw, they're pretty equal, because i don't bend that much
can someone help me? i just bought a brand new ibanez guitar to use mainly with drop C and drop Bb tunings. however, with the floating tremelo, tuning is very difficult because of varying string tensions. ive heard of using a tuning block... but i dont really understand it. also, i am having some trouble with the action making my bass strings buzz. any advice? it would be very appreciated
thanks man. i decided to buy strings for a seven string guitar because of some advice that i got from a different person and then i figured out how to set up the spring tension. so its all good now. thanks for your imput though. its appreciated
lol at the dove at 4:19. im not so sure about the sustain test, sure the jackson definitely won, but that may just be that guitar, I think that it needed extra guitars.
However, these are excellent and very thorough and clear tests, and my very picky criticisms show just how good these videos are since I'm picking something so small. I'll be looking at the rest of your videos now :D

yeah me neither. my first electric (squier stratocaster) after i got my second(dean ML) i put a Kahler on and i never had the thing go out of tune.
MegaJaybee 2 years ago
When you solder the winding can't that make it brittle or soft? Please reply. It would be greatfully apreciated.

Floyd Rose is better than Kahler, by a long shot. Kahler to me sucks and they aren't on very many guitars.
killeroforce 2 years ago 6
there isnt anything as the 'perfect guitar' which also means there is nothing as the perfect tremolo, i use kahler, and floyd rose, and ive been playing on them for 3 years now they are both good to me
teezakar3a 2 years ago
@killeroforce they are mainly only on BC Shits lol
EldubeG25 1 year ago
@EldubeG25 and floyd is only on michael jackson's
UCHIHAITACHI30 1 year ago
@killeroforce the bonus for a kahler bridge is that they have models for hard tails. you could throw a kahler onto an SG or a Viper without having tonal sacrifice due to punching a hole for a floyd.
theRev767 1 year ago
@killeroforce really dave mustaine used it jeff haneman uses it and kerry king uses kahler.

@chompykitty Is not DM using fixed bridge - strings through body? I would bet he has it on his all main Vs

if u guys r still fighting over this ur all idiots just get the floyd rose way less problem
BoNeZz99 2 years ago 3
@dmometalguitar sustain is also affected by how low your action is the reason your bc rich's sustain isn't that great is because the action is lower on that than any of your other guitars and that's probly why(other than having a maple neck and body) that guitar is missing some low end

Just exactly what was dumbass about that video? Please respond, I'm sure we all want to know. The video is on my Wammi World you-tube channel if anyones interested. Please watch and respond if you think I am a dumbass too. Wammi J.

bronsonbaker 2 years ago
Clearly not.
I know what I am talking about, and I have swapped about thousand pickups on a thousand guitars.
I have a Guild solidbody that has had Lace, Dimarzios, Gretsch, TV Jones and Seymour Duncans, and it doesn't sustain with a crap.
mcduffiesteven 2 years ago
"worth a crap".
Sorry: long day.
mcduffiesteven 2 years ago
whats less expensive the floyd or kahler
ironmaiden0393 2 years ago
usually kahler. floyds are far more famous,so they are usually more.
bronsonbaker 2 years ago
DM, Your rollers are to high on the Kahler. I can see it in the video. You can see the definite bend bend over the string roller? Especially the g string is way high. way too much. Lower your rollers or raise the bridge if you cant lower it any more. I work for Kahler. I know what i am talking about. 30 years experience.

ultimateguitarguy 2 years ago 2
Chapstick is NOT an answer. Kahlers do not need any "work arounds" if set up correctly, it is absolutely perfect.! See my videos.

i have a question pertaining to the kahler. is that guitar also equipped with either locking machine heads or a locking nut? because if not that may be why it goes out of tune

you have to make natural or artificial harmonics

small question, with the kahler tremolo's, that doesnt have the springs, can you just mount it to a guitar with a tune o matic, meaning just replacing it?
Nonchiie 2 years ago
no i think theres routing involved
thuglyfe91332 2 years ago
(cont'd..apparently I write too much!)
Cheers, and good job!
chilldave73 2 years ago
Very nicely done! Your written description is very accurate & informative especially the section on locknuts.
I am a repair tech & builder and agree fully that the Floyd nut is far superior for the reasons you mentioned.

on the floyd rose, for better tuning stability(even tho its already great) DONT CUT OFF THE BALL ENDS! put the ball end through the tuning peg, wind it, put the other end in the bridge. the ball end will be wound up around the tuning peg then and it locks it in even more.
iBanez7rocker 2 years ago 22
damn good advice! thx!
Trinivalts 2 years ago
@iBanez7rocker Holy. Shit. That's the username my friend uses.. But he wouldn't pay attention when I told him to do that... Anyways when you're putting them in backwards don't cut off the extra so if a string breaks you can just pull it through and put it back in the bridge since it usually breaks at the bridge.
pegasus52497 1 year ago
@iBanez7rocker it doesnt matter if you either use locking tuners or have a good locking nut. it will keep the string from coming out completely, but it wont protect against detuning.
theRev767 1 year ago
@iBanez7rocker does it affect intonation at all when doing bends?
OMMIAMSalvation 1 year ago
@iBanez7rocker in theory...
bamf6396 1 year ago
@iBanez7rocker
Doesn't that in the long term fucks up your bridge?
Tiberiusize 1 year ago
@iBanez7rocker that makes no sense... the strings were cut at the factory to get em that length so either way u do it theyre still cut
CiscoMcLovin 1 year ago

Any chance of putting them back up?
dGrigoriSephiroth 2 years ago
My Floyd Rose bridge has the bending problem on the G string only. I can do 2 1/2 bends on most strings and it'll be perfect. On the G string, I can't even do 1/2 bends without needing to dive it to get back in tune. Don't suppose anyone has any advice? I'm thinking it may not be set up properly as it only affects the G string.
jimbobg65 2 years ago
lol u said g string
guitarkingalfie 2 years ago
check the intonation and make sure its set up perfect. the bottom part of the bridge needs to be aligned to the body. ive heard people that it needs to be the top part of the bridge, theyre WRONG!
iBanez7rocker 2 years ago
no offense dude, ur an amazing guitarists and ur videos are kick ass but pretty much any guitar is going to go out of tune when you bend that much, espically on a tremelo system.

Well... No.

Haha, If you shelled out for a nice guitar, I'd say you should probably use Lithium Grease instead of chapstick.
liamMaru 2 years ago
is it normal that if you pluck any note at the higher frets and then make it really high that the note stops because i have this with my 3 hours old guitar lol
liamzuid 2 years ago
depends on the price of your guitar... most higher priced guitars should be set up correctly, so the fretboard isn't bent too much/less.
otherwise the neck needs to get an adjustment with the truss rod in the neck. don't do it yourself, it's a pain in the ass, give it to your local dealer, should be a 10 minute job ;)
freaxxx 2 years ago
I prefer cherry chapstick, mainly cause I like the taste.
Pyrokanetis 2 years ago 2
seems to be small differences, like with strings and picks, they don't matter too much, by what i saw, they're pretty equal, because i don't bend that much

Good comparison!!!I'll take a Floyd after what i saw with bending on a Kahler.

can someone help me? i just bought a brand new ibanez guitar to use mainly with drop C and drop Bb tunings. however, with the floating tremelo, tuning is very difficult because of varying string tensions. ive heard of using a tuning block... but i dont really understand it. also, i am having some trouble with the action making my bass strings buzz. any advice? it would be very appreciated
atuckschool 2 years ago
raising the entire trem a bit, increase the spring tension in the back, use a little more heavier gauge strings, but be sure to reset ur intonation
let me know if u have ne more questions. let me know if u get it under control k
metalmanj 2 years ago
thanks man. i decided to buy strings for a seven string guitar because of some advice that i got from a different person and then i figured out how to set up the spring tension. so its all good now. thanks for your imput though. its appreciated

lol at the dove at 4:19. im not so sure about the sustain test, sure the jackson definitely won, but that may just be that guitar, I think that it needed extra guitars.
However, these are excellent and very thorough and clear tests, and my very picky criticisms show just how good these videos are since I'm picking something so small. I'll be looking at the rest of your videos now :D
