I've never heard of a woman being able to browbeat a man into continuing a relationship with her. Once she could see Michael wasn't in love with her, she should have just let him have the divorce and then left him alone. His press release years ago certainly indicated that he wanted to have nothing to do with her.

The song Michael wrote and sang for Sammy Davis Jr. shortly before Davis died was about how black people had been systematically shut out. In todays world, black women and men do not see marrying a white person as necessary for success, but years ago we often did. I certainly did. While it is true that at the time I liked the man I married (he always made me laugh), it would be a gross exaggeration to say I was in love with him. Lena Horne said she married a white man because a black man couldn't get her into the places where she wanted to be. They divorced, but that was kept quiet.
Frank Sinatra had a large cross-over black audience. A significant part of the reason was because it was known that throughout most of his adult life he lived with a black woman and clearly cared deeply about her. I don't think that relationship ever ended.
Young people today don't have to consider marrying for the wrong reasons. Beyonce and Alicia Keys are luckier, and they know it. Michael and the people who came before him faced a very different world.
Michael's primary mentor, James Brown, taught him that the way to get the white cross-over audience was to be seen with white women. (Brown always had white women dancing in the background on stage.) Michael first used that strategy in the video "Billie Jean" and it obviously worked like a charm.

In "This Is It" he didn't cast a white woman in either major role that involved a woman. That was very telling. It looks like Michael had had it with that scene, even to keep his cross-over audience. In "This Is It" his guitarist is white, but the women Michael sang to are women of color in what was to be his final and biggest concert.

Even Debbi looked like a believable choice (well, almost) after her. That marriage was another indication of how miserable the media was making his life with the accusations he was a gay pedophile, so he lowered himself to LMP's level--for a few months. For years, Mike had even been in love with Diana Ross but she was older and wasn't interested in him romantically. Finding a true romantic connection was hard for him. He always told his press team to say Ross was the woman he was thinking about. If she had been available to him as a young man, Beyonce would have made an ideal choice. Physically, he was obviously attracted to her, she's accomplished, spiritual, and she has the right temperament and style. LMP didn't have anything going for her.

I've never heard of a woman being able to browbeat a man into continuing a relationship with her. Once she could see Michael wasn't in love with her, she should have just let him have the divorce and then left him alone. Going to the hospital to have a showdown, making a complete idiot out of herself, and forcing him to ask her to leave was pretty outrageous, but apparently that is her crude style. His press release years ago certainly indicated that he wanted to have nothing to do with her.

In todays world, black women and men do not see marrying a white person as necessary for success, but years ago we often did. I certainly did. While it is true that at the time I liked the man I married (he always made me laugh), it would be a gross exaggeration to say I was in love with him. For years, Mike had even been in love with Diana Ross but she was older and wasn't interested in him romantically. Finding a true romantic connection was hard for him. He always told his press team to say Ross was the woman he was thinking about. If she had been available to him as a young man, Beyonce would have made an ideal choice. Physically, he was obviously attracted to her, she's accomplished, spiritual, and she has the right temperament and style. LMP didn't have anything going for her.
