  • i wouldnt say it's a sick play, i would say it is amazing football iq to pull that off.

  • War Eagle. Cant wait to see you at auburn next year philip.

  • was this a planned play?

  • that is sick

  • He is still committed to AU

  • Karlos Dansby made a similar interception in the 2001 Peach Bowl.

  • That would have been funny if the second guy droped it.

  • Im not sure where any of you get your information but he is still committed to Auburn

  • He is coming to Tennessee!!!!

  • I have been playing football for seven years and I have never seen anything like that before. I can't decide if it was incredibly lucky, or just really quick thinking.

  • Need your hands Philip. Don't decommitt! Check out my 8 year old's moves in this clip. Run Mackie Run. He's fun to watch.

  • whats the name of that song?

  • Fort Minor - Second To None

  • that was incredible!

Probably set up, but perfectly executed.

  • dumbass, that wasn't set up. that was legit.

  • is this USC LOL im looking for reggie bush.

lassiter was sorry but make ONE play and have more views than anybody... WOW

  • We need this guy in Auburn. Philip, if your reading this, PLEASE DON'T DECOMMIT! We could use someone who is physical with good hands.

  • Bama just offered the kid...Go to rivals to confirm.

  • Philip we are ready for you to come and do your thing in Auburn!

  • He decommited from Auburn.

  • nope solid to Auburn..... per rivals and scout

  • If you look when I said it he was decommitted... he is now, as your said, solid to AU.

  • HOLY SHIT AWESOME

  • everone search Philip Lutzenkirchen does it again...Knowshon Moreno style!!! he jumps over a guy for touchdown, looking like a white knowshon

  • damn hes good. id anyone has the video of him hurdling the guy against north gwinnett PLEASE POST IT.

  • I wonder if that was a trick play...? Either that or really quick thinking.

regardless, that ref really had to think about it haha.

  • damn

  • that was the best catch in the world

  • holy crap, that was a bad ass catch and toss right there.

  • that was sick

  • Philip Lutz... Have my babies?

  • bad ass!

  • soooo proud to be a lassiter trojan!!

  • amazing play

  • philip better go to florida auburn stinks'

  • WAR EAGLE BITCH!

  • too bad he is gonna decommit

  • Great heads up play by #13. Good field awareness and play. When i first heard of this it sounded like the Rugby try that Inglis did, similar thing but different code check it out, just search for "try in centenery test"

  • this play's goota be one of the best catches of all time. its right up there with plays like "the catch" and "the immaculate reception". I mean seriously, this is incredible! There needs to be a nickname for it...

  • that was insane

  • that is so cool!!!

  • Im surprised that I haven't seen this play yet. Whenever I was a little kid I would daydream that same exact play over over, except it was a hail mary to win the Super Bowl

  • very good point, my bad

  • ok to all the haters who wanna cut down phil's catch, if its legal or not it wouldnt have made a difference, we would have probably scored on the next play anyways and if we didnt, i beleive the final would have been 44-24 haha

  • Would've been hard to score on the next play, since it was 4th down.

  • best frekin play ever

  • As the description of the video says:According to the 2008 National Federation of High School Associations rule book,"Any pass in flight may be batted in any direction,by an eligible receiver unless it is a backward pass batted forward by the passing team".Does the rule book interpret catching the ball and then throwing it back to another receiver like we see in this video as batting the ball?

  • It would be a lateral if they saw it as a catch then throw back so it would be legal regardless.

  • Actually, no. It's not a bat, but it is completely legal at all levels. Karlos Dansby had a similar play for Auburn in 2001 except it was an interception on the sideline and he threw it forward before he landed out of bounds. Auburn was penalized for an illegal forward pass but it was well worth it because they also go the ball back.

  • War Eagle! AU Commit!

  • yes!!!!1

  • The song is Second to None, but it is by a group called Styles of Beyond, featuring Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park (and later Fort Minor) fame. Styles of Beyond include the MCs Ryan Patrick Maginn (Ryu) and Takbir Bashir (Tak), Colton Raisin Fisher (DJ Cheapshot), and producer Jason Rabinowitz (Vin Skully). Its a pretty cool track. And an even better play.

  • I believe that song is called "Second to None", but I am positive that is Rakim of "Eric B. and Rakim" fame, better known simply as "The R.". Freakin' incredible catch and play, I just want to know if that was a designed play or if these two kids are just the best example of football awareness anybody's seen in a long time.

  • what song is this? awesome play btw

  • GATOR

  • That play would even be legal in college. For example, Karlos Dansby jumps out of bounds in the air and tosses the ball back in bound to another play during the 2001 Peach Bowl against North Carolina

  • I go to Lassiter,

    I was in the stands

    i saw it happen

    its legit

its not agianst any rules the centennial knight guy is just pissed we killed them.. haha

  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

  • im sorry to state that my coach did not say what rule this was but only that he read the quote to us during a practice and i have tried to find a copy of the rule book but it costs money that i do not want to waste my money on

  • its completely legal its a foward pass and a backwards lateral and both of his feet are in bounds when he left the ground so there is nothing illegal about this play

  • SICK i saw this on sportscenter....whats the song in the vid kinda sounds like Fort Minor but im nor sure

  • not*

  • Second to None by Styles of Beyond

  • could he do that

  • Guys, he made one play.

  • He's taking an official to Florida State, Croenter. He also said he wasn't impressed with Urban Meyer saying he recruits players negatively ie talking trash on other coaches like Bobby Bowden.. St. Bobby.. the nicest man you'll ever meet.. who does that, seriously?

  • he is thiking about de commiting to auburn and going to florida YEAH BABY

  • u guys dnt no wat ur tlking bout. that was in fact a touch down. the refs were totally fair, they gave lassiter penalties, as well as cennital. as for brokalli, auburn does work as a team, u have no idea wtf ur tlkin about. get ur facts straight. & he was not a "fag" 4 showing the "i just scored" shirt after he caught the ball. it was senior night and he was excited b/c he was a senior he scored u'd be excited too, get over it. it was a GREAT play!! great job phil lutz!!! GO TROJANS!!!!

  • ok i bet euclid cumming could do the same thing and he only a DE that is on GA #1 baskeball team. Hey Euc K-N-I-G-H-T-S Black and Blue

  • haha good play

  • What a stupid statement by brokalli.

  • Auburn players are not team players so good luck with that!!!!!!!!

  • cool

  • That was a dirty play!!! Absolutely awesome! Like the song you used too.

  • Nice play, quick thinking.

  • You are the man Philip. See you in Auburn next year. WAR EAGLE!!!!

  • You better hope he's committed after a season like the one Auburn's had. Get ready to be stomped in the ground at the end of it. Roll. Tide. Roll.

  • hooly shitt that was tight

  • now thats a team player. props to this kid

  • South Carolina could use that talent. Who wants to play for a washed up Auburn team. Carolina is on the rise.

  • Thats Awesome!!!

  • Bet he played a little basketball too, making a save like that...

He'd probably dive over a scorekeepers table and into the stands.

  • come play for carolina

  • thats awesome. crabtree and lutzenkirchen are amazing.

  • Nice play. TD. You other guys need to pick up a rule book instead of trying to pretend like you know the rules. I'd be embarrased to post some nonsense about this "box" then. Apparently you know nothing about the "goaline being extended".

  • i do ,incase you don't understand these teams are in GEORGIA and there is a rule about the endzone having an imaginary plane around it, where if the ball crosses that line it is immediately a dead ball and the play is over

  • You have no idea what you are talking about...

  • That was directed at the guy talking about an imaginary box around the endzone...idiot.

  • really? do you live in GA? were you at that game? NO!!! then why don't you realize that someone who was there actually knows about what they are talking about and i taken a look at a GHSA rule book and IT"S ILLEGAL

  • Please show proof (ie what page this rule you are claiming exists is on in the GHSA Football Rulebook) and we will take you seriously. And just because you were on the sideline or live in Georgia does not make you a credible source on the rules of football. Thanks for playing, though.

  • I do live in Georgia...as a matter of fact, I coach in Georgia. That rule does not exist...anywhere! Georgia plays by the same rules as anyother state. The endzone is no different than the sideline. Catch the ball...one foot in bounds.

  • It seems to me you are making up rules. The end zone is like a box??? I think the ref would have a higher understanding of the GHSA rulebook than you and I'm sure one person working at Sportscenter might have noticed it was illegal if it had been. Besides, from what you've said about yourself, you seem to be on the losing end of a great play and trying to justify why it shouldn't count.

  • you forget that ESPN recognized it as a legit play. Don't argue with the big guys

  • lol morons, the endzone is NOT like a box

  • whats the name of the song?

  • That's the first time I've seen an alley oop in football. Wow!

  • the refs at that game were complete morons but he did have great vision. the player that caught the pass went over to the sideline ripped off his helmet and showed the crowd his shirt that said "i just scored"(fag)

  • yea if the ball goes out of the Endzone, its a dead ball.... dont know how that results in a TD, but wow, what an incredible play regardless, that TE has not only silly athleticism but the presence of mind to then throw it back inbounds to his own man.

    sick sick play

  • Incorrect. The endzone is not a box. How many times have you seen a WR leaning out of bounds to catch a ball, but keeping his feet inbounds to complete the catch. If the endzone is a box, then those plays wouldn't be TD's either, but you see those every week.

  • correct

  • Yes I agree, you need to come to South Carolina, and play for Steve Spurrier. Its a great school with a great football program.

  • Philip, please come to school at South Carolina! We have one tight end about to leave early for the NFL and you could be the next one with plays like that! Hell you can play on the basketball team too!

  • lassiter!!!!

  • Great heads up play! That kid has a very high Football IQ. You just cannot teach that. Anybody see Leon Washington's heads up play vs. the Bills on Sunday?

  • nah what did he do

  • The kickoff was going towards out of bounds, so he was letting it roll out of bounds so they could get it at the 40, but it bounced back towards the field of play. But he was smart enough to know that if you have one foot out of bounds and pick up the ball, it still goes to the 40. So he almost did a split, reached and grabbed the ball before it rolled too far away and it was a penalty for kicking the ball out of bounds on a kickoff.

  • To be the best you need smarts too :D

  • That is correct. :)

  • Just dirty! Lutz is my hero

  • this was on sports center today

  • this was on sportscenter today

  • Lassiter Trojans baby graduate of 07!

  • That was unreal

  • is that legal?

  • That kids my hero. lol.

  • i just shat my pants that was so amazing

  • I went to Lassiter! Class of '97. Go Trojans!

  • Who was Lassiter playiing?

  • centennial

  • Why always put crap music to such a great play like that? Would have been 3x's better without the crap!

  • Nothing, No music needed.

  • then press the mute button dipshit.

  • Yay for you! You are a big person. You can cuss over the internet. Makes me proud *sniff*

  • great play as long as it works out the way it did...might be a different story if he tipped it to a CB who ran it back for a pick-six tho.

    i can't h8 tho - that was quite niiiiiice...

  • The ref had to replay that *hit in his mind before he called a touchdown. That was the latest touchdown call I have seen in a while. And the ref motions a touchdown like... well I think it was a touchdown, what is the rule for a play like that? That was a half-#$* touchdown call on an INCREDIBLE play. And don't give me that well... if I practice that I could do it crap. There is no way that is being replicated.

  • There are rules for when you can bat a loose ball, so he was trying to think if the batting was illegal or not. Awesome play! and LEGAL!

  • Huh? Are you knocking the official for the way he signaled touchdown? Are you freakin' kidding me? Of course he replayed it in his mind... it's a matter of getting it correct, not a matter of who can make the call the quickest.

  • Holla ESPY ALL the way to NYC!!!

  • I remember an Auburn linebacker doing a similar play a few years ago. Very impressive then and now. Great mental acuity and field awareness to make that kind of play.

  • amazing. and i just saw it on sportscenter

  • yes you can
