  • this sounds very similar to the bass line to "release yourself" by Larry Graham.

  • you and i have the same bass sir!

  • You should do music for nintendo, this would be awesome in a mario level.... come on, you know im right :D

  • Beautiful , my brother.

  • ooo man, now this is the style of music i want to learn on the bass man. after playing the drums for a few years and playing gospel and stuff i decided to learn the bass just for fun and this is where its at man.

  • Mr. MarloweDK, why don't you try making covers for praise and worship songs like songs of hillsong, planetshakers, etc...? :D

  • ZzzzzzzzzZzzzzzzzzZ

  • Er det en Marcus Miller Fender bas ?

Spiller selv på en Sandberg Jm5.

  • You are awesome man. One of the best I've seen. Thanks for the videos.

  • I like this! Can you slow it down so I can catch up!!! Thanks

  • hey, i've had my bass for a while and i am now just getting into it. i have no idea how to play slap, not exactly the notes to play but how to physically do it. could you give me some tips, because this is just wonderful.

  • I nvr really used slapping during a shout...I'm gonna try that nxt week if we shout

  • @Captnplatnum i go to an apostolic church and its all bass slappin

  • the tempo is off man..

  • @blackmoney37 Don't think so son.

  • i caught the holy ghost

  • Marlowe, can you do a few more SHOUT music videos? I especially love what you started doing from 2:00.

I've been playing the bass for 10 years and I just joined a band that expects me to do shout usic. I always tell them, I don't like, it's boring, no challenging music theory, lol.. but I have to do it.

I am originally a guitar player who converted to the bass, so that doesn't help!

BUT your videos always inspire me.. I'd like to see u get more creative with the shout. THANKS dude!

  • Thumb lines are cool! =)

  • What string? close ur eyes and cum! thats what i did

  • revival!!!

  • Thank you for posting these lessons. I am learning a lot plus, I enjoy listening to you play.

  • Wow!! Love it!

  • Can't believe all the pathetic small-minded dipshits leaving comments about everything BUT the fact that this guy is serving up one after another of FUCKING BRILLIANT lessons. Free. I charge 40 bucks an hour to teach guitar and bass and turn you away if you're a pathetic, small-minded

    dipshit! Marlowe, keep'em comin' baby!

  • @harleycouch Thx for the support man:-)

  • @harleycouch righteous!

  • @harleycouch

LOL..yeah this dude rocks and he is trying to share and inspire his love for playing bass...and people complain!? Your drums were so loud they rattled my nuts...please keep'em a comin

  • how in the world did you get so fast with your thumb slap?

  • dont think its gospel.. whatever you plays its always funk ;)

  • @valshebnik It's called shouting music...It's gospel, but very funky:)

  • Did you ever have problems with your thumbnail? I think it would destroy my nail, if I do something like this!

  • how long uoy play on a bass?

  • How you will do a solo on that bass line or with this groove? It's a question.. because I need to follow a reference. Thanks!

  • larry :)

  • capoooooooooooooo

  • Marlowe KILLS IT!!!! I'M NOT WORTHY!

  • idolo .

  • YEAAAAH ! ... THATS JBass as it should sound! excellent timing. the bunch of knobs was worth it ;-) ooooooooooooooh the sound !!

  • nice marcus miller!

  • sounds like I wish - Stevie wonder

  • Nice technique... the theme reminds me of a Larry Graham Bass line...

  • thats cool ...but most FAST gospel is way past 150bpm

  • This is one of my favorite videos from you. Sounds like some killer gospel to me.

  • Larry Graham incorporated these lines into FUNK. But it came from Black Gospel Church music or "Shouting music".

  • I cant stop watching this...

  • just not english

  • nicely done!

  • Marcus Miller signature jazzbass

  • @JexFatin thats sounds like gospel to me. Just like shout gospel

  • that is hilarious and not gospel lolol

  • Larry graham style!!!

  • this is not genuine fast gospel, its really generic, but its fundamental.

  • it's 'generically' KOOL!

  • Some parts sounds like Daft Punk... Am I right? (A)

  • mannn me likey lol

  • I was wondering if you could tell me what scale, mode, or chord sequence makes it gospel style?

  • most gospel stuff is in Eb and is based around the chords the keyboard is playing sorry that doesn't help does it

  • Its actually fast 4 bars of the four chord and 4 of the one done chromatically. Its the fundamentals of the gospel "Shout" style. If you look up 'shout clips' or 'shout bass' on here, you will get an idea.

  • Nice playing, but that run would sound better w/ finger style IMHO.

  • This is good and just as the author described is a passage directly from Gospel. Playing in an inner city Gospel church was one of my favorite bass experiences (and least favorite experiences in trying to avoid Christians).

  • is that a marcus miller? your collection of basses is ridiculous XD

  • the line is great. the bass is clear if you have a good speakers or just any sub.

  • love all your vids, but this one, the drums are too loud, i can hardly hear the bass. nothing wrong with the playing, just the levels

  • lsten to with proper speakers/subwoofer, i tend to get this complaint from folks listening on laptop speakers...has no bass

  • there is more than enough bass coming out of my speakers! love your skills man

  • i wonder what bass is that, a fender jazz bass standar? it sound's great

  • It is a Marcus Miller signature jazz.

  • I think it's a deluxe.

  • @MarloweDK I'm listening with a good system. It sounds great but I agree the bass could be louder or the drums lower to let the bass shine thorough more.

  • @MarloweDK although true, i had the same problem and i have normal speakers... i can hear it but the drums are sluightly overpowering the bass

  • @MarloweDK yeah cause its not too loud with a good sound... Thanx for all your amazing lessons!!!!! I think if i cover all of them i can play like you in about 20 years...lol. LOVE YOU!xxx

  • @MarloweDK Listening to this in Audio Technica ATH-M50 studio monitor headphones... it's definitely your mix. You gotta compensate for the fact that Youtube converts audio to 64 kbps MP3s, so the bass loses some definition and that high hat just cuts like a mofo. Not hating, just a tip. Keep banging out those funky grooves, your playing is rock solid.

  • slikyle get proper speakers. Laptop speakers are garbage.

  • @slikyle Use some half decent headphones with your laptop. Sounds much better.

  • you guys are so insecure!mr. marlowedk is the best bass player!

  • you haven't heard of victor wooten, i'm assuming...

  • And neither does your sex life :)

  • u just dont know what ur talking about

  • Hey, come and play at my church...:-)

  • Let's go space trucking!

  • That string is part of the secret gospel technique :)

It actually goes all the way up to God

  • Yeah, there is:) and He wants you to go to him:) God bless:)

  • It's your choice to live in confinement and control. I do not believe in any god or religion. I live my life how i wish and be the best/ honest person i can be.

  • Hey i guess thats your choice, no one can really force you.

  • People like you need to realize one very important thing.

    nobody gives a shit.

  • No need for such language. Im just stating my opinion.

  • So true.

  • Thanks:)

  • Just curious.... What kind of strings do you use most of the time? I'm sure you use a lot, but most of the time? I've always been wondering, lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Omg...LMAO. Just read the comment about the string hanging down. Now I cant stop looking at it. Its putting on a show of its own. THis guy should rename this video .....String Dance!!!!

  • @guitarguy316 It's not a string, it's a metronome! : )

  • the string dangling in front of the bass, it bothers me to no end for reasons i dont fully understand

  • its the string to the hood of his sweatshirt

  • yes, and its bugging the crap out of me for some reason

  • lol i hear ya

  • Totally! Get that thing the fuck out of there!

  • How sensible you all are;-)

  • @heavymetalwarrior725 It's actually Marlowe's funky moustache...

  • @Osk3ii LOL!

  • very nice

  • Sounds like I Wish by Stevie Wonder is squeezed in there a bit.

  • reminds a lot of marcus miller sound´s and groove´s

  • Much to learn you stil have!!!!!!!!!

  • lol, YODA

  • Oooohhh LAWD!

  • haha

  • Comparing somebody to Victor Wooten is stupid. Victor's arguably the best bassist int he world. Hush child.

  • Hush Child? What a cock.

  • Hush Child.

  • Think you should keep your mouth shut too you mug.

  • Victor Wooten is definitely not the best bassist in the world... just the most known. Amazing technique but he is definitely not the best bassist in the world. And I've seen him live... own 5 of his CD's

  • What you say has a lot of truth, but you have to admit Victor Wooten is one of the most amazing bassists out there right now. His pure musical skill is amazing, and a lot of his compositions are mind blowing.

  • "Amazing technique" (quote from earlier) flecktones live is on of the best concerts you could ever see btw...

  • Cool job dude!

Victor wooten still kicks your ass though, but this is still cool! :D

  • Haha ^^,

    It s not fake...

  • this is cool

  • haha 109th comment XD

  • WHO GIVES A SHIT.

  • yep. who gives a SHIT! im wid you man!

  • haha 101th comment

  • 101th?

  • haha try 101st

  • Lmao

  • Nice work bro- I caught a couple of your videos and I can tell you are the real deal...love the double thumb stuff, and great taste in basses!

  • Hey Man, this is really great. It don't impress me, if others say: but this other bass player can play faster than you. it's about feel, and you have a fuckin great feel, dude!!!!

  • thats a classy bass i like the mother of pearl and the black on white. very nice

  • Nice bass. Is it a Marcus Miller?

  • may i know what strings are you using?thanks

  • Ha, you did what I did and took off the pickup cover too. As cool as it looks, it just gets in the way too much!

Great vids, btw. You`re one of the select few on youtube who do what they do to help better other people. Thanks!

  • i bet it must kill you inside when people say vic wooten is better but dude if it wasnt for you back in black vid i wouldve never learn things to do during that song. you are AWESOME

  • Not at all, i dont compare myself to the masters, just happy to pass on knowledge

  • You are not only "passing on knowledge", you are inspiring the whole bass guitar players community on youtube. And that is a lot :)

  • you are still awesome

  • It's interesting... as soon as you get really good, you seem to stop comparing... does some angel come down and enlighten you when you learn to doube thumb well or something? XD

  • You are close to the truth: The better you get, the more you find out how much more there is to learn (it nevers stops) and the humbler you actually get

  • ahh riiight... lol

    thanks

  • Actually your being so modest about your skills, in my humble opinion, makes you stand between the legends. The skill itself is not as imoprtant as the creativity, personality of a good musician.

  • Hey dude, I've been watching all your videos, you are simply amazing, what is the best set up for a good slapping sound? on the amp and the bass guitar

  • well i use (i will use =D) a cable who links my bass to the computer. But make sure you use a compressor (like i use my distortion pedal without opening it, and it compress)

  • Theres no way of defining a "good" slapping sound really dude

  • I agree, depends on your taste, some like oldschool muffled sound and other 80's metallic sound

  • Its probably most generally agreed that the amp tone comes out best with a scooped mid with a lot of low end and high end.

  • To the guys that state that this is not a Gospel riff, "IT IS", I have been playing Bass for 34 yrs and I have played in Funk, Jazz, Rock and Fusion Bands and for the last 15 yrs I have been the Praise and Worship Leader in my Church and believe me this is just one of the standard bass lines for a Gospel sound. Remember all music origonally came from Gospel in the first place even the Blues.

  • maybe most genres played in america mainstream.

it's very pedantic to say but i doubt latin music or african music or example had much top do with gospel in their roots

  • i think its more funk-ish than gospel

  • it sounds like sumthin victor wooten would play

  • ... as a warm up exercise.

  • hey man! really nice bassplay and nice bass. I'm just started playing bass, and that was really cool! totally awesome!

    P.S is it a Fender?

  • Larry Graham would sure B proud of U !

I play on about the same style !!!

    Keep the "FUNK" Alive !!!!!1

  • Great man as usual. Just a very, very small suggestion. I have the PX4B, and the country drum beat sped up sounds alot closer to the shout drum beat if you ever mess with this style again. Maybe theres one similar on your model. Thanks for the videos!

  • Sick, man. I like the feel of the walking bass/slap bass line.

Gonna have to use this in future!! ;)

    Thanks!

  • Your bass sounds a lot like Marcus Miller's, I'm guessing you too dig that tone? I have a Carvin LB70 myself, with a lot of preamp controls, and I can get that sound, but just not sure what to do with it. I usually keep everything in the middle position. Anyways, you are really good but I don't see how this is anything like gospel music. You are better suited for just full blown funk, man.

  • Not claiming it to be gospel "music" as such, but the shout like run is in the gospel "style" of bassplaying ie "Release Yourself" with Graham Central Station

  • uh...from the looks of it, he IS playing the marcus miller signature bass, and agreed with the "full blown funk" comment, this is funky as fuck

  • Liking the groove.

  • i think you should turn down the drums and redo this i can't really hear you play what i can hear is good though

  • You Rock.

  • That a Marcus Miller signature bass?

    Scratchplate is very distinctive.

    Liking the groove.

  • Yeah Victor has time for everyone he's no ordinary ledgend.

  • Indeed. And unlike alota players (especially those that post videos), he plays for music, not to proove anything.

  • yeah but not everybody i've wanted to get a camera really badly for a long just so i could play with more people than just myself listening i want to post so just cause i want an audience...i'm sorry ii misspelled that or anything else here i'm just really tired right now

  • nice
