This has always been my favorite OP song, so varied in speed, energy, dynamics, and with Oscar truly defining "being in the groove." And he does it seemingly effortlessly.
Who IS this bassist? I like (love) his version of this tune better than NHOP's (Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen). Much better. Sounds like a piccolo bass. But it's not. Is it? I'm not a bass player.. So help me out, someone!
@avivagabriel guessing from the sound, the bass is captured with pick-ups (electric upright), not microphones. I think Paderson also uses an electric upright bass in his version.
@avivagabriel This is not NHOp and is no where near as good Go to the 1982 version or simply go to samba petite or you look good to me by NHOP . You will see.
I love this song. It's a shame that other people my age don't listen to Oscar Peterson. All they listen to is new age rock like Green Day. I'll tell ya, Green Day can't even touch these guys.

The tittle is wrong. It's not "Nigerian marketplace" but "Cakewalk". Anyway the music is great. Amazing artists with incredible music. Thank you Oscar
I wouldn't call him sucky.. I'm sure Peterson chose him for a reason.. But he certainly has a hard time filling the shoes of Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen - R.I.P.
best video in the youtube, its a shame joe's solo was so god damn low in volume

Something I've read says the bass player is NHOP, but it is
definitely not. It sounds like NHOP, but it is someone else.
Can anyone tell me who he is. Thaks!

Hi. The bass player is Dave Young from Toronto. Dave and NHOP are my pick of bass players (of any era).
