  • looking gooooooooood

  • YUMMY.

  • In France, our Christmas cake is a Bûche de Noël, with chocolate, vanilla or coffee. Sometimes it's made of icecream, and sometimes it's just a cake with cream and decorations, but it's delicious ! :D

  • Fruit cake in America would be our Christmas cake. But no one eats it. It was made in the past to preserve fruits. It's gross!

  • @Nushgala I hate the cherries ;_; so gross. But a friend of my grandmother's makes an Italian-style bread that actually makes them semi-decent.

  • I love reading everyone's response to runnyrunny999's question in the comments.

Very diverse, yet unified cultures. (Idk what I just said haha).

  • yum :O'

  • I just realized that it is supposed to be like a Christmas cake. (_ _;)

  • INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O :O :O

    So easy!!!

  • thumbs up if the second to last song made you smile

  • woww.. u're a pro with whipping cream!! XD

  • Runny-san you're doing it wrong.... that's a cake, not an omelet

  • 男性でここまで出来たらかなりの好評価‼

  • You arnt getting old ;)

  • Does it matter if the sugar is different?

  • Omg I want to eat that >_<

  • how much is 100 g in cups?? :/

  • lol do u not have a girlfriend ? i mean , i heard that guys that cook well are popular

  • same one... mostly because i buy from a japanese/chinese bakery XD

  • MMMMM... FUCK.

  • Christmas cake in my country....I guess christmas cake for an american would be fruitcake. But, honestly, I've never eaten it because it doesn't look very appetizing. I would definitely want to eat a christmas omelette more

  • bottom to surface mixing is actually called folding. you do this so you do not over mix the egg whites and release the air from it

  • in my family they make black cake

  • Wow, what an easy recipe, I'll give it a shot this weekend and let you know how it turns out, ^^ BTW, I started cooking because of your videos! :D

  • In Ireland we have adapted the English traditional fruit cake. We still have the dense cake itself, but we feed it with stout instead of sherry. I don't think the icing is important here either, just the cake itself; and even then it isn't massively popular.

  • ahhh im falling in love with this guy *.*/

  • @runnyrunny999

when making cake once you pour the batter into the pan do what you did when the cake was done, let it slam a few times befor baking that way you wont have air bubbles ;)

  • The only Christmas cake we have here in Canada is fruit cake. But I wouldn't recommend it. LOL

  • i never knew sponge cake was this simple! thanks Runny! :)

  • Here in Denmark, we have this christmas dessert treat called ''Æbleskiver''

Directly translated to english: ''Apple Slices''

It is made out of batter, with buttermilk in it.

They are round, so to make these, you need a pan with holes. Like a tagoyaki pan^^

Usually we eat them, with strawberry jam and powdered sugar

  • @LoveYourCake007 Woooowww that sounds really good :O

  • Are you check the food that you cooking before u upload it??

  • We make a sponge cake and with straws make holes in the cake and fill those with red and green jello

  • Do you have a cookbook out? If so, where can I purchase one?

  • runnyrunny999ねえ!あなたは日本の餅を作ることはできますか?

  • @ninkacrinkles then y did he swear when he ate it

  • Your batter and meringue look so beautiful - i bet the cake tasted great

  • i wuvv u runny <3

  • In Switzerland (Geneva), we have a cake called Bûche de Noël (I think the english word is Yule Log) for christmas. The epiphany is celebrated on the 6th of January and on that day we eat the King cake made with puff pastry and frangipane.

  • "euh? i just said that twice" ahhaha..so funny XD

  • Do you work as a chef?

  • @strawberryFUSION

    No I'm not.

  • I have a question, what do you do when you have alot leftover?

  • @OtakuFreaky

    Share it with your neighbor.

  • @runnyrunny999 I want to be your neighbor. D: That lucky fellow.

  • @runnyrunny999 how do you make your eggyolk solid? Mine is all liquid.Like you broke your egg and it was like a solid ball.

  • wow

  • In Poland we have this tradition of fasting the whole day on Christmas Eve, until the Christmas Eve supper. So no cakes (and absolutely no meat) then. But, next day, we start the celebrations, so we prepare a few cakes, but we don't really have a tradition for them - every family makes what suits them most, I guess. In my family, we make cheesecake.

On a side note, when I make whipped cream, I usually add a bit of lemon juice to make the cream lighter. To me, it tastes so much better this way!

  • OMG RUNNY!! you're awesome!!!

  • Runny that was Chantilly cream you made, that's the name for adding in vanilla to whipped cream :)

  • in my family we had an eggless cake called a "boiled raisin cake"...you boil the raisins in water, sugar, and the spices (cinnamon and cloves) then add the shortening to melt and baking soda for the leavener.the flour is added and it's baked.it is dense, more like a sweet bread, and very yummy!we also enjoyed gingerbread cookies, and a danish cookies we called rosettes( a batter made with irons dipped into a crepe like batter, fried and dusted with powdered sugar!light and crisp

  • .. i suddenly craves for cake

  • In the U.S. we have these nasty fruitcakes we give them to people who will most likely throw them out after we leave. Lol! XD

  • In the U.S. we usually have a Christmas ham or turkey.

  • I don't think the U.S has any actual traditional 'Christmas Cake'..

  • Your Christmas omelet loos delicious. Love your videos,

  • In Spain we eat Roscón de Reyes, a big sweetbread donut filled with cream and topped with glazed fruit (Angelica and cherries and sugar) which has a little lucky charm inside - whoever gets it in their slice is lucky for the year. There is also a bean, which means you must pay for the Roscón next year.

Lovely looking omelette, I will try to make it even though it is no longer Christmas. :D

  • Strawberries on christmas?

    Only in Japan.

  • in Greece we have a cake which is called vasilopita. it means "cake/pie of st Basil" who is st Claus in Greece. in every family we make or buy it and serve it to everyone on the first day of the year. inside the cake there is a coin! the person who gets the serving with the coin is said to have a lucky year it is supposed to be a present from st Claus. we also have vasilopita at school and work because the ceremony of cutting and serving it to everyone is suppoded to bring luck for the new year

  • what the music in 4:42?

  • omg that looks so good. I dont care if you say it didnt come out good it always looks amazing! i would kill just try your dishes lol well not literally but you get the idea.

  • That is so cool. !!!

  • Dear runny runny,

I was in a mall in Singapore... I think it was called liang court... And I was in the Japanese grocery store. I was looking at the Japanese candies and all that, when i saw somebody who looked EXACTLY like you, with a child in a blue shirt. Have you visited Singapore recently and was that you? I thought it would make sense that you were in the Japanese grocery store...

    Wish you the best.

  • In Mexico we have something similar but it isn't for Christmas, it is for January 6 and it's called Rosca de Reyes (:

But for Christmas there is nothing really like that ):

  • We don't have any christmas cakes here :S I'm so jealous

  • Miss you runnyrunny!! Wish I knew about more Japanese dishes, because I would order one!

  • buche de noel

  • We do have a kind of Christmas Cake, we call it a 'kerststronk'. Translated it would be Christmas Log (of wood). Basically it's a cake in the shape of a log of wood. But it's so delecious.

    And happy hollidays \0/

  • @Yaamoesje is het La Buche in het frans? :D

  • @lasspenny Ja, ik geloof het... Maar mijn Frans is niet zo goed :p

  • @runnyrunny999 Same too u! ^.^

  • in Mexico we do a lot of food and this is a time to be with family and is a time to forgive problems or fix problems with relatives. but most this days are to be with family we dont do a cake but we do another dessert recipes. i live now in united states and American culture is about the same thing my point is this days are to be with family for us. my friends in japan said x-mas in japan is equal as Feb/14 to us so i guess Japanese people dont understand Christmas for us is not like that

  • awesome

  • For Christmas dinner, we usually have a Christmas Ham. I suppose a turkey also works, but having had weeks of turkey leftovers after US's Thanksgiving, I'm ready for something that's not turkey!

Dessert wise I don't think we have anything "traditional." The weeks leading to Christmas tend to bring out a flurry of cookie and dessert/cookie bar baking, though. This year we made hundreds of cookies (of three different types, plus fudge too), and often send small collections of cookies to family.

  • That was clever and it looks tasty. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  • we have a huge turkey at christmas in america

  • Oishii *-* I always wondered why there's always strawberry on japanese Christmas Cakes? In Germany there are no strawberries at all at that time of the year :( I don't think there's a special kind of cake here on christmas but christmas is cookie-time ^o^ (I only made 3 different types this year though :') )

Anyway, thank you for all your videos this year and although christmas is already over i hope you had a good time ^__^/

Frohes Neues Jahr (which means Happy New Year in german :3 ) !!

  • Why does it Take so Long to make your Videos and I Hope you will make a New years recipe

  • Here in Brazil we do not eat a "Christmas cake", here we celabrate Christmas with a fest, we eat "Panettone" but main meal is roast turkey or roast pork, fresh fruits, many types of rice, codfish, etc.

We invite friends and familly to our home, it's more like a party and it's not just a cake.

  • @JoseV1991

Actually I just said ''Oishii'' which means ''tastes good''. But it really sounded like ''Oh shit'' even to me .... That's why I beeped that part.

  • @runnyrunny999 Either way it sounds good. "Oishii!" or "Oh shit! That was freaking delicious :D"

  • @runnyrunny999 LMAO!!! HA HA HA!! :D

  • No, well I went to Palestine for a vacation to see how it looks only. But they dont celebrate christmas

  • My family never did a Christmas cake, but we would do Christmas cookies! All sorts of varieties! Although next year I would love to make a Christmas cake!

  • how come the egg yolks are so orange???? they almost look spoiled.

  • @NubishCake It really depends on the chickens, We have several different breeds of chickens from rhode island reds to belgian d'uccle's. They have light to darker yolks, even if just laid.

  • oishiso~~~~

  • we have Christmas log cake in Canada :D

  • ¡Feliz Navidad! (Merry christmas!) Here in Venezuela, he most popular cake is made with chocolat, candied fruit, almonds and spicies (cinnamon, nutmeg & cloves), but really is like in Japan, is a european recipe (mey be more than one) adapted to our tropical taste :)

  • LOOOKS SO YUUMMMYY !!!^^

    MERRY XMAS !!!!

  • THIS GOT ME SO HUNGRY. You said it wasn't perfect but it still looked so good. <3 Merry Christmas! :)

  • :D yay! In Britain we have Christmas cake and christmas pudding. Christmas cake is basically a fruit cak made a month or so in advance with a layer of marzipan and a layer of icing on top. Christmas pudding is a VERY strong cake made in a bowl then turned upside down to serve (dome-shaped). When it is being served, we put alcohol on top then set it alight, it's very pretty ^^

  • hey runnyrunny! I'm from Hong Kong and I'm visiting Japan right now. • おいしそ~

    じゃ、これを作りたいだ(*^^*)

  • wow, even the egg yolks look different. O;

  • in portugal, where i live, we have lots of sweets that are tradicional to eat during xmas but i think the most popular cake is one called "bolo rei"

  • It looks wonderfull ^^. Probably very tasty heehee..

Well in the Netherlands, they usually have a chocolate cake as a X-mas cake.

But it's not really a tradition or something.

  • In France the tradition is to eat a "bûche" at the end of the meal. It look like a log of wood and it is make with chocolate generally but there is a lot of flavors (vanilla, fruits...). Continu your videos runny, I like you ! Merry christmas by France !

  • @ladyraspb Bonjour! i'm currently takign french classes and we just learned about the "buche de noel"! is it worth making because I wanted to try it sometime. merci.au revior. hows my french?

  • @nonamer145 Hello, the "bûche" with ice creem is a few difficult because you need a ice creem machine and you need to know how make several layers of ice cream with several flavors. But the "bûche" in cake is most easy to do because it is similar a rolled cake covered with chocolate. And your basic french is good (because I think you want to say "au revoir" at the end and no "au revior"). If you have any question, just ask! Bye.

  • @ladyraspb

Even in japan many patisseries sell french style christmas cake called bûche de noël.

I used to like that log-shaped brown cake.

  • I just made this; the cake is in the oven right now. I hope it's good!! :) P.S. Runny, I think it would be really helpful if you included the baking temperature and time in the description; I read off the ingredients as I went, but then when the time came to bake the cake, I had to go back through the video to find the time/temp. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the recipe!

  • Yummy , I'll try do this cake for my family :x

  • Hello runny runny. I know this has nothing to do with the food or this video but I was wandering how Japan is coming along after the tsunami...

  • I live in Canada were I wouldn't say there is one type of Christmas cake; there's black cake, Christmas log cake, Chinese Christmas cake, etc. Canada is such a diverse mix of different cultures and people that I don't think there is just one type. ^_^ I'm hoping for biko cake (Filipino rice coconut pudding cake) this year.

  • you sad it didn't come out well but it did! :D

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS! :D

  • that looks good

  • I LOVE CHRISTMAS! MERRY CHRISTMAS! :D

Though we do love & eat a lot of sweet things at Christmas, we don't really have a special Christmas cake, but we do love the Santas and the tree decorations that are made of chocolate XD And we make many cakes (With cream, chocolate...) around this time of the year <3

We do have special cakes that we make for Easter though ~

    I'm from Israel, BTW :)

  • @Jemmy8691 And born was the King of Israel! :)

  • @navaldisaster And this is his birthday!! So let's all celebrate it and always, always show him our love and faith! :D <3 <3

  • @Jemmy8691 <3 Always!

  • Ciao Runny,

in Otalia ci sono il Panettone e il Pandoro

    Buon Natale

  • Well, since I am from Portugal, we usually have for dessert the typical cake named ''Christmas Trunk'' in honor to our Christmas trees. it looks something like this all covered by chocolate = w = and similar to a Christmas trunk. go google it ^^' type 'Tronco de Natal' Portuguese for Christmas Trunk

i don't eat one of thoses a long time now.

    Anyway, Merry Christmas Q u Q

  • runnrunny!!!! you're are my most favorite youtube chef around. I've been following you since you were just running. and I love what you've grown into. who would have guessed that you'd grow into such a beautiful flower, just by staring at the soil? oh well. keep up the good work, you're amazing.

  • We have Fruit Cake in America. But I don't know anyone who actually eats it. It seems pretty gross. It's something you throw out or regift.

  • We don't have Christmas cakes in my country. Christmas is mainly a religious festival here in Malaysia.

  • @27roam Hi there! I just wanted to tell you I live in Malaysia too! :D

  • @BoysOnlyify Cool! :)

  • It looked nice! We usually have a pastel de tres leches (a cake of three milks). Its a nice thick cake, they add a milk mixture to it, decorate it with whipped cream and strawberries! There are many different kinds but its a good cake!

  • Last year on Christmas we ordered Chinese food and our dessert was fortune cookies //dead

    From America!~

  • 14 people do not like this? what is not to like XD and in Canada we have log cake and fruit cake both of wich im not a fan im sure there are all kinds in north america but im not actually sure

  • please in spanish! help!!!!!!!!!!! thanks! por favor son exquisitas tus recetas colocalas en español! gracias! y....felices fiestas

  • And Merry Christmas, by the way! ;)

  • I runnyrunny!

We dont have christmas cake like that in Portugal... But we have other things very traditional for christmas, like Rabanadas (french toast), Sonhos, (i didnt find translation, but it means "dreams" in English) that are little fried yeast dough, and of course, Bolo rei (King cake) and that's decorated with dried fruit. :)

  • Looks tasty!! In Belgium we also have a Christmas cake but it's with chocolate or moka and we call it a "Bûche de Noël". (litteraly log of Christmas because of the form.. looks like a piece of a tree ^^ )

  • Yeah!! Make a channel n teach us how to speak japanese!!!

  • Yo runnyrunny, you should make like a second channel and teach us how to speak japanese :)

  • Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! To runnyrunny999, to all viewers and to the world!!

  • f***ing oishii :]

  • loved how he said HAPPY CHRISTMAS !! ‎^ - ^

  • Merry Christmas to You!!, Your Awesome, You are Iron Chef 2012. LoL

  • That was funny when he cussed, runny is hilarious hehe.

But that cake looked awesome I love strawberry cakes.

    Thank you Runny!!!

  • i love your little mistakes and humor :D

  • do you have to sift the flour???i dont have a sifter

  • @THEunique4158 Just stir it really well. The sifter is for making sure there are no clumps of flour. Make sure to thoroughly stir and grind so there are no clumps, even without the sifter. Do not press hard on the flour as this will form clumps

  • Yay! <3 I want to make this^^ here in Norway I can't really recall if we have an actual cake..or no actually we have plenty but most of them are little ones like biscuits and such, nothing like your christmas cake with whipped cream and such, we have deserts with whipped cream for christmas that is but...no..don't remember if we have any cakes like that..so that's why I am going to make it^__^ haha! Runny you are as sweet and funny as always thank you^^ God Jul, like we say here in Norway^__^

  • @fuckinbrilliant god jul ^^

  • @fuckinbrilliant omfg, another norwegain *shiny eyes*

but for the sake of english people and such, I'm going to ask my question in english!

does it rise much? I can't te in the video...

and what size pan did you use ?

the smallest I have is a 24 cm springform and I'm not sure were to find smaller

or didn't you ue a spring form at all? o.o

Please answer your fellow norwegian *u*

  • Nice to see you got an electric mixer and you aren't beating it like for your green tea ice cream video! hahahaha hmm... I'm not sure what Canada's holiday cake would be but I know I see cake logs where it's rolled with whipped cream and decorated like it's a log in the forest on christmas haha i think... haha

  • this looks so yummyy!!!

  • Here in America, a lot of people make "fruitcake" around Christmas. It's sort of like a heavy yellow poundcake, with lots of candied fruit and nuts in it. A lot of people don't like it, and the idea that more fruitcakes are given away than actually eaten is an old and common joke.

Your Christmas omelette looks delicious, by the way!

  • @RoyceTheMad : There was a "Far Side" comic that I saw, which said that there was actually a fourth wiseman who came to see Jesus, but he was turned away because he brought a fruitcake. LOL!!

  • @candygirl0166 Case in point! :) I love Far Side...

  • In Singapore we like to have Log Cakes. It's like a big swiss roll but decorated with brown icing cream (mostly chocolate) to look like a log.

  • In my country the popular cake in Catalonia is Tortell ^ 0^ for christmas and Inside there are a small ceramic of one king and one raw bean. If you take a part and have raw bean you paid the tortell :D and if you take a part and have a king put in your head a crown. ♥ bye bye runnyrunny999 ♥
