The banning of hemp was racism and cooporate conspiracy. Hemp is a very usefull cash crops and it doesn't destroy the soil. It needs little or no fertilization, it can grow on praries and harsh arid steppe lands. Its fiber can be used like cotton. It's also used to open one's eyes.
You may notice upon reviewing the program that this was industrial hemp that is used for fiber, seeds for healthy oils and food and 80,000 other products, and best it is good for the land, no dependence on chemicals to grow it..and it is non active as a drug phenotype All this from one very special gift to the Earth from this plant of many forms and use's. As it was mentioned, not only in the most severe economic places like Pine Ridge could it help.
@DVDluvr123 when you can speak without trieng to wound you will understand what you are saying about yourself relative. People use drugs the worst of course alchohol when they are sad. Why are they sad? When a system takes away your land, your honor and dignity, your freedom and then 'legaly' supplies you with the deadliest known drug while at the same time preventing a means of makeing a safe, clean industry to be self sufficient..What is this?
@DVDluvr123 You mean the government would rather them be abusive drunks that die early from alcohol related disease, than to free the herb and free the people!
Its unbelievable that the same government that persecutes these Native Americans and take their crops...is the SAME GOVERNMENT THAT PROTECTS THE POPPY SEED PLANTATIONS AND EXPORTATION in Afghanistan.
The people of the Sioux Reservation with the assistance of others should stand and PROTECT THEIR SOVEREIGNTY. A public warning should be given to the government through the media...and then post guards.
the govt. just won't quit! i'm ashamed of how our govt. has treated Pine Ridge's people, and many others, of course, but especially the Native American's . Shame on you........politicians........who are so greedy and wish to keep people who can make their own way in the world and survive on their own, under the govts. thumb is shameful and unforgivable.

@purplehand1 because the US Govt does not want anyone to make money and therefore become more financially empowered and less dependant on them. They aim to wipe out the 1st nation or have their bloodlines diluted so that they will cease to exist. I hate it.
Mixed feelings here... I knows this reservation well. There is over an 80% alcoholism rate, so the idea that there is marijuana growing here scares me a little. While I know much of it will go to nonee drug use which were mentioned in the video (all great, hence my trepidation to say what I will say next). The rate of deprssion, low lifespan, and high alcoholism makes me question the the ability to quickly get marijuana. Here's a thought... maybe we should give them the Black Hills back????
The THC content in this strain is incredibly minute (Rep Ron Paul has said "you'd have to smoke a cigarette the size of a lightpole to feel any affect" - I'm not a Ron Paulite.. Its just a great quote)
Anyway, if production went large-scale you could grow pot nearby, but theres all kinds odd horticulture variables that would impede it being good stuff. Either way, its not addictive like alcohol, & doesn't tend to incite aggression (domestic abuse).
In that case, if this is a kind that can't be smoked, then they should plant it. Nothing else can be grown there. It is after all the badlands. Much of our laws don't apply to the reservation anyway. Considering all the stuff that can be done with it, it would seem to be quite a useful crop.
I saw elsewhere that there has been a little harvesting of the hemp that grows wild elsewhere on the ranch.
Real efforts at putting hemp into serious production have been thwarted by the DEA. Because industrial hemp falls under the same genus as high-THC marijuana, it is still on the Schedule of federally banned substances. Now the Fed courts have put an injunction against the growers, which if they violate, will put them in contempt of court w/ 6 months in jail.
The major barrier to the Feds allowing cultivation, or the growers from going ahead anyway, is sovereignty issues again. - Is it growing on communal tribal land? Is it on allotted land? Is the allotted land tribal land or did the reservation (in the legal sense) disappear once the land became allotted portions? If the rez didn't disappear where are all those white people living, and what are their rights, etc? I guess you probably know this.. little issue walking into a big (& expensive) fight.
One major good thing is that it would be kinda self-regulating (making sure marijuana wasn't grown)
The tribe's law says the hemp has to have a THC level below .065% (prob the same rule used in Canada & proposed in the proposed Fed legislation.)
So the growers would have to make sure no one anywhere near was growing marijuana. Otherwise, it could easily pollinate and make their crop illegal (not to mention less desirable, b/c marijuana plants are all about the flower, & hemp the stalk)
Sorry to keep rattling & buggin ya, but I saw on your profile that you're really active in your church.
I wish this would become a Church issue, b/c its about feeding, clothing, & sheltering the poor. Its a Christian cause, and the self-reliance aspect, is purely in the American tradition. Not a hand out, not even a hand up, just unchaining the hands so they can help themselves.
Farmers are already trying to make it happen. If Church's got involved, it could really work. Its about farming.
Church is why I know this rez. We go at least once a year and I have made many friends there. It is why I think having a cash crop would be a great thing. You mentioned wanting it to be a church thing. Here's the issue with that so far as I can tell on the rez... The old religion is sort of intertwined with everything in this odd messed up way. Sort of like indian is the religion.
The ceremonies all that... totally just a part of life. Very few people don't take part of them (some of the indian pastors and elders for instance might not). That said, much of the tribal leadership (police, council, lawyers, judges... andyone working for the tribe) seems to be corrupt if you ask a lakota walking down the street. So the church and the government are basically one corrupt system on the rez. And there is no one church.
There are several medicine men that claim to be the most important cause they can't decide who is the rightful one. There are also a handful of protestant churches and at least one catholic church (but none of us have a say in government). I think AIM should get back together and work towards a settlement here. It worked once and I think it will work again. :)
I've heard a little about corruption, but never have been to a rez there.
Its good to hear that someone is trying to help though.
I meant to suggest that churches pressure their county and state govts, and especially the Congress on hemp farming. I live in D.C. and the concensus from what I've heard is that Congress knows the war on drugs (in relation to marijuana) is nonsense, but its fundable and the 'tough on crime' wins elections.
I think they imagine church-going folks would be the most likely to be outraged by any perceived deregulation of 'drugs.' They vote too. If churches leaders & parishioners began calling their Congressmen, it could actually make it happen.
Kind of like Nixon going to China. Sometimes the largest leaps can only be made by the people we'd last expect to see it. If others saw church leaders (as opposed to 'liberals') asking for the ability to farm industrial hemp, they'd take it really seriously.
Keep fighting it Pine Ridge. I support your continued efforts to grow commercial hemp; and please know that are many of us out here who support your struggle. Never give up!
They have no right to interfear with any state or country to stop economic growth.. They have been doing this for far tooo long.. They are corrupted and evil..But soon they all will feel and see the wrath that awaits them for the many sins of the father and of their fathers father..
These goverment people hide behide a religion and are member yet, they don't love thy neighbor, share food, money, your tribes are still under attack to rid of everyone of you. They haven't stoped.they will keep on until everyone is gone.teaching mix breeding. Clan Mother gets very upset when a native breeds outside of Indian blood know you know why. You will fade into nothing but a mixture, not full blood. I'm teaching my 2 lil ones to marry NA Hopefully will find one.Lane*
Leave our people alone! This land and world is meant for all people to survive on. We can make the world a better place...stop being so difficult...you're hurting us all! You're killing everything!!!! John keep trying buddy, someday we will all be free!!!!
our federal government is too strong...with all those pay checks to give out....even if they saw all this as "just a plant" ...they, the receivers of a government check, end up saying,"it's just my job!" ...people who use this excuse to be bad to other people should be reminded of the golden rule...over and over and over....all day long....over and over and aver all night long. DO ONTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO ONTO YOU....federal government ...are you listening?...xox
Reservations Are Not The U.S.--They Are Each Little Countries That Should Not Be Subjected to All American Laws---_- Alcohol is the Govt. Chice---Cannabis--They Get No Tax-It is a Better Wat!!!!! Apache-_-Sky
It looks like the government wanted those plants for theirselfs, otherwise they would have just burned the plants. they should have just paid them to grow them.
I saw the dok. abot the Pine ridge fifteen years ago.I cried and cried for the people. Not many years after I realised that all of us are Indians.I, at the other part of the world, look now how they take part by part of my land.
what pisses me off is that theirs people out there that belief "Indians have casinos, they have nothing to worry about, they enjoy all these freedoms"... what freedoms?
Never ceases to amaze me the rules and regulations a govt can inflict upon a Nation of Peoples. We are talking about an Herb the Creator put upon Mother Earth for "use". This I believe and is a part of my belief system, what happened to seperation of Church and State? What happened to the Constitutional Right to Freedom of Religious Beliefs? It no longer exists, and will not exist if it does not benefit govt "pockets"! My opinion, and everyone has one.
The sad part of this is the misconception that what we see in the video is going to save anyone. There isn't enough hemp fiber in that whole field to make much of anything. The path to economic prosperity via agriculture is not done by hand with hoes and rakes. What a shame.
As seen in the film, "Standing Silent Nation", the first plantings were intended for seed stock, with each year a bigger harvest. Hemp is one of the few crops that can grow at Pineridge and could certainly grow into a viable industry, as in Canada.
Our declaration of independance was written on Hemp in 1776 for starters G.washington T.Jefferson all had it grown,The seeds are a wonderful healthful food that could nurture our planet,to date close to 80,000 products could be made from Hemp without damage to environment from pollution, deforrestation errosion of land and create jobs and good health for people, Ha expert..this been know for many yrs that oil and timber barons have villanized this plant and prevent clean natural way of life.
Thats what i use, hoe rake, shovel, i grow food for my family, this my health insurance!
You need to research how benificial this gift of nature can be.Economic independance for our land. Its not a drug, its a plant full of food and fiber.Hemp composite buildings are a reality. why do other country's grow this non drug form of hemp? Not to loose money that you can count on!
You are 100% correct. I live in Minnesota and they are trying to pass the medical marijuana bill and hemp bill but Pawlenty the govenor plans on vetoing the bills.
If the Farmers associations or unions would get behind it, it could really get somewhere (legalizing industrial use at the county, then state, then fed levels)
STANDING SILENT NATION>> A NEW FILM ABOUT THE AR ON HEMP>> SPECULATE ALL YOU WANT<< GOTTA TAKE ACTION SUPPORT VOTEHEMP DOT COM< THEY LITIGATE ALL HEMP RELATED CASES IN THE STATES AND ARE CURRENLTY LITIGATING NORTH DAKOTAS HEMP LAWS< PLEASE SUPPORT THEN NOW!!!!!!anything helps!
We all have a voice. Why not stand up for what has to be known? Injustice cannot prevail no more! We need to speak louder!! I will endure, till my breath is gone! Brother Leonard Peltier! A true warrior who in my eyes, is the model of strength, courage, humility, generosity, respect and love! Hau Mitakuoyasin! Hang in there bro!
It's sad to see the sickness of the american system of greed above all.
But love is stronger and more and more people are opening their hearts for the wisdom of our idian brothers. What is rotten has no chance to survive, just as it is in nature and beautiful flowers will grow on the excrement of yesterdays.
We need to get behind these Lakota people and help them; write your congressmen about the unfair drug laws that their growing of hemp does not even violate!! I think there is another agenda being followed in barring these people from raising hemp!
Understandable, but wait - I met a new friend, Lakota Sioux, who told me of a ancient legend amongst his people, that white skinned people with a special plant would work with the Native Americans in a crucial time to bring about change for good.
John Trudell is so right on about how the federal government tries to depress economic vitality that does not come from the petrochemical industry...how they think Pine Ridge is in their jurisdiction continues to boggle my mind. What schlock.
last night i watched a documentary about john trudell and i was moved to tears- i mean buckets of tears! native american rights, the anti nuclear movement, the hemp legalisation movement- and the peace movement- these issues are all connected. thank you for letting us know about the pine ridge hemp project, all of you who brought this to youtube. how else would we ever find out!
How could these so called men of the FBI carry out such atrocities on a people in such need and their crops, ON THEIR OWN LAND ???????????? This is so wrong on every level !! MY GOD where is the justice ?????????

its a fact u cant get stoned of hemp the DEA r such wankers.
this is the real reason cannabis is illegal
not because it can be a decent drug but because it has so many uses for example
can be used to make oil for energy
(energy is the biggest buisness in the world 5 trillion a year)
can make more paper out of a acre of hemp than u can acre of timber and it grows much quicker.
bio fuel.
platics could be based on cannabis oil not there oil which is non boi degradable and toxic.

I wish this retarded shit had been sorted out in the 70s and 80s...

Here's a thought... maybe we should give them the Black Hills back????
wakingupkk 3 years ago
Understandable, here's some import info..
Either way, its not addictive like alcohol, & doesn't tend to incite aggression (domestic abuse).
crock703 3 years ago

Now the Fed courts have put an injunction against the growers, which if they violate, will put them in contempt of court w/ 6 months in jail.
crock703 3 years ago
The major barrier to the Feds allowing cultivation, or the growers from going ahead anyway, is sovereignty issues again. - Is it growing on communal tribal land? Is it on allotted land? Is the allotted land tribal land or did the reservation (in the legal sense) disappear once the land became allotted portions? If the rez didn't disappear where are all those white people living, and what are their rights, etc? I guess you probably know this.. little issue walking into a big (& expensive) fight.
crock703 3 years ago
One major good thing is that it would be kinda self-regulating (making sure marijuana wasn't grown)
The tribe's law says the hemp has to have a THC level below .065% (prob the same rule used in Canada & proposed in the proposed Fed legislation.)
So the growers would have to make sure no one anywhere near was growing marijuana. Otherwise, it could easily pollinate and make their crop illegal (not to mention less desirable, b/c marijuana plants are all about the flower, & hemp the stalk)
crock703 3 years ago
Sorry to keep rattling & buggin ya, but I saw on your profile that you're really active in your church.
I wish this would become a Church issue, b/c its about feeding, clothing, & sheltering the poor. Its a Christian cause, and the self-reliance aspect, is purely in the American tradition. Not a hand out, not even a hand up, just unchaining the hands so they can help themselves.
Farmers are already trying to make it happen. If Church's got involved, it could really work. Its about farming.
crock703 3 years ago
Church is why I know this rez. We go at least once a year and I have made many friends there. It is why I think having a cash crop would be a great thing. You mentioned wanting it to be a church thing. Here's the issue with that so far as I can tell on the rez... The old religion is sort of intertwined with everything in this odd messed up way. Sort of like indian is the religion.
wakingupkk 3 years ago
The ceremonies all that... totally just a part of life. Very few people don't take part of them (some of the indian pastors and elders for instance might not). That said, much of the tribal leadership (police, council, lawyers, judges... andyone working for the tribe) seems to be corrupt if you ask a lakota walking down the street. So the church and the government are basically one corrupt system on the rez. And there is no one church.
wakingupkk 3 years ago
There are several medicine men that claim to be the most important cause they can't decide who is the rightful one. There are also a handful of protestant churches and at least one catholic church (but none of us have a say in government). I think AIM should get back together and work towards a settlement here. It worked once and I think it will work again. :)
wakingupkk 3 years ago 2
I've heard a little about corruption, but never have been to a rez there.
Its good to hear that someone is trying to help though.
I meant to suggest that churches pressure their county and state govts, and especially the Congress on hemp farming. I live in D.C. and the concensus from what I've heard is that Congress knows the war on drugs (in relation to marijuana) is nonsense, but its fundable and the 'tough on crime' wins elections.
crock703 3 years ago
I think they imagine church-going folks would be the most likely to be outraged by any perceived deregulation of 'drugs.' They vote too. If churches leaders & parishioners began calling their Congressmen, it could actually make it happen.
Kind of like Nixon going to China. Sometimes the largest leaps can only be made by the people we'd last expect to see it. If others saw church leaders (as opposed to 'liberals') asking for the ability to farm industrial hemp, they'd take it really seriously.
crock703 3 years ago
Keep fighting it Pine Ridge. I support your continued efforts to grow commercial hemp; and please know that are many of us out here who support your struggle. Never give up!

They have no right to interfear with any state or country to stop economic growth.. They have been doing this for far tooo long.. They are corrupted and evil..But soon they all will feel and see the wrath that awaits them for the many sins of the father and of their fathers father..

our federal government is too strong...with all those pay checks to give out....even if they saw all this as "just a plant" ...they, the receivers of a government check, end up saying,"it's just my job!" ...people who use this excuse to be bad to other people should be reminded of the golden rule...over and over and over....all day long....over and over and aver all night long. DO ONTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO ONTO YOU....federal government ...are you listening?...xox

This is so sad to watch. Those people have
nothing! Everything they do, they take it
away. I agree, why didn't they just burn it.
They must have wanted it for themselves. I
don't understand why they can't grow it., they
are exempt from Goverment laws and yet, all
the useless land they gave them, they want to
take it away. This was a wonderful idea, and
I think they should be able to grow it and make a profit. God knows, they need something. They're such beautiful people.

It looks like the government wanted those plants for theirselfs, otherwise they would have just burned the plants. they should have just paid them to grow them.

Awesome Video.
The only thing is the guy talking kinda looks like the stereotype drug lord from the 70's (nice rings btw) BUT- he is right.
We need to realize that this isn't about drugs, nor profits... it is about CONTROL.
HEMP IS FRIGGIN NATURE AND YOU DON'T ABOMINATE NATURE- YOU EMBRACE IT.

AND-
Not only the control of hemp, but the control of people.
How can we say that sovereignty exists in this country when it gets RAPED in plain view?

The sad part of this is the misconception that what we see in the video is going to save anyone. There isn't enough hemp fiber in that whole field to make much of anything. The path to economic prosperity via agriculture is not done by hand with hoes and rakes. What a shame.
RickyRitter 4 years ago
As seen in the film, "Standing Silent Nation", the first plantings were intended for seed stock, with each year a bigger harvest. Hemp is one of the few crops that can grow at Pineridge and could certainly grow into a viable industry, as in Canada.
cannabistv 4 years ago
you must be an expert on the subject how do you know how and what can be produced.
sarasf78 4 years ago
Our declaration of independance was written on Hemp in 1776 for starters G.washington T.Jefferson all had it grown,The seeds are a wonderful healthful food that could nurture our planet,to date close to 80,000 products could be made from Hemp without damage to environment from pollution, deforrestation errosion of land and create jobs and good health for people, Ha expert..this been know for many yrs that oil and timber barons have villanized this plant and prevent clean natural way of life.
zyx645 3 years ago
Thats what i use, hoe rake, shovel, i grow food for my family, this my health insurance!
You need to research how benificial this gift of nature can be.Economic independance for our land. Its not a drug, its a plant full of food and fiber.Hemp composite buildings are a reality. why do other country's grow this non drug form of hemp? Not to loose money that you can count on!
zyx645 3 years ago
You are 100% correct. I live in Minnesota and they are trying to pass the medical marijuana bill and hemp bill but Pawlenty the govenor plans on vetoing the bills.
sarasf78 3 years ago
If the Farmers associations or unions would get behind it, it could really get somewhere (legalizing industrial use at the county, then state, then fed levels)

I am ashamed to have been born white.

Understandable, but wait - I met a new friend, Lakota Sioux, who told me of a ancient legend amongst his people, that white skinned people with a special plant would work with the Native Americans in a crucial time to bring about change for good.
