the 747-8 may have a lot of features of the 787 but why doesnt it have the dimming windows?? that would be great! but i love the 747-8 anyway its the most beautiful 747 to date (closely followed by the -100 and sp)
Qantas, Emirates and Singapore Airlines have also suffered fuel system problems that have grounded one or more of their A380s in the last year. While it is not uncommon for new airplanes to have teething problems after entry into service, the frenetic pace of electronic system failures that have forced the grounding of the A380 poses questions about the quality and maturity of the airplanes that have thus far been delivered.
The loss-making Airbus A380 is still proving a miserable headache for Air France, an airline that has spent more money tending to the airplane on the ground than it has made using it in the air.
Airbus had 3 CEO's resign during it's development that should send alarm bells ringing to anyone who 'understands' corporate. How does a joystick remove pilot work load any more than glide slope or TCAS does and has been doing already for years. The control column has been used for years and is favoured by pilots the world round, most pilots are fighting against the introduction of the A380 as well as its joy stick.
@Marmalade624 good point well put. Have those grounded A380's left the ground?
747-8 is a cheap and boring replacement for the classic 747-400 series in my mind's eye. Boeing did not want to invest in an all new 747 replacement as it was seen too risky a buisness venture. I applaud Airbus once again for taking the risk and pushing the envelope in terms of innovation and desing. I think Airbus have pushed aviation 20 years into the future whereas Boeing is still tinkering with a 1960's old rusted antique 747 design.
It is called the 747-8 and NOT the 747-800 as sen in the video, when are people going to stop likening it to the Airbus A380-800...? This plane is way better and has a history unlike the Airbus!
Just because 747 has history that doesnt mean that it is technologically better than A380
A380 is actually technologically more advanced because it is a completely new design as opposed to the 747-8 which is a derivitive of the 747. 747-8 has design compromises dating back to the original 747 from 1969 such as the aerodynamics. The 747/747-8 cabin is far noisier becasue of the sub sonic airflows around the nose of the a/c. A380 doesn't have that problem and as such is much quieter in the air
True the A380 is technologically better but ask any pilot and they will tell you that they hate the "scarebus" as it has become known amongst those in the profession. A joystick over a control column is hardly revolutionary and to most pilots it is an insult. A control column gives the pilot proper feeling over his plane.
The side stick provides more room in the cockpit in comparison to the flight yoke which takes up alot more room.
Most military fighters use fly by wire technology which include a side stick/joy stick aswell including the Raptor F22. I can tell you now that no fighter pilot would be complaining about their joysticks and fly by wire which actually reduces their workload increasing safety and reducing pilot error.
No facts from the truth actually seeing as though you clearly battle to understand and see the real plane from that piece of shit you call one.
Go join an airbus forum or so, then you can eat frogs legs and talk shit about the 747 behind its back, I know you will enjoy that, leave the comments to people who know a legend from a toy.
FACT - A380 is aerodynamically more efficient than 747 including 747-8I.
FACT - The cockpit and cabin of A380 is much quieter than 747. 747 has design compromises due to technical inefficiencies when it was first design in the 1960s and as such causes sub sonic airflow around the nose of the 747 which in turn causes noise.
@Pvjinflight The plane was over 25 years old and it was up to the airline to ensure the integrity of the wiring, instead of replacing it they just taped it up. That's hardly a Boeing problem so take your head out of your arse and look at the facts before you comment next time ;-)
@calasite Faulty wiring was main reason yes, but fuel doesnt always ignite from spark if its not hot enough which makes it to fuel air mix. In Boeing 747 design there was heat-generating Air Conditioning directly under the fuel thank, it heated fuel over flaspoint. If Air conditioning would be in somewhere else, it couldn´t heat fuel enough to spark ignite it.
@Pvjinflight The airconditioning unit is indeed under the centre wing tank as yu have mentioned however there was no immediate threat to it as:
1: Kerosene is not highly flammable in liquid form
2: The wires to the tank were designed to carry a voltage far below what would be required to ignite the fuel.
The fact that the wiring was damaged is a mere co-incidence, an act of fate because of an airlines poor maintenance standards. All new Boeings carry nitrogen in their empty tanks.
@whitireia well, the Airbus A380 is not a fighter jet is it. Maybe fighter jets need this technology an A380 doesn't its a passenger airliner:| Because fighter jets do allot of manual flying but in a commercial airliner you only need manual flight control at take-off/landing and if there's an emergency.
Your argument is weak with no substance. Since when was a joystick inappropriate as a control mechanism?
FYI most Airbus aircraft utilise the control stick i.e. A318, A319, A320, A321, A330, A340, A380, Beluga. The only Airbus that uses the yoke is the A300 which is Airbuses oldest aircraft in their fleet.
Fly by wire is like having power windows in a car. It reduces pilot workload and automates some of the flight control functions.
An example of how fly-by-wire can help reduce workload is in an emergency situation such as approaching mountainous terrain. The pilot can simply pull back all the way on the control stick and the fly-by-wire computers will, retract speed brakes, advance the throttles and pitch the aircraft to its limits without the risk of the aircraft ever stalling.
In a non fly-by-wire Boeing a pilot would have to action of these tasks manually - more unnecessary workload in an emergency situation.
i would also like to point out that there are more boeing planes than airbus and boeing has been around for much longer and airbus. and so the boeing planes have been in use longer than airbus planes
@calasite i highly doubt its called a scare bus. and how if its a useless plane are they still swamped by orders that are coming too quickly for the factory to keep up. the A380 is an incredibly easy plane to fly, and in an age where the pilot is given less and less to do it doesent really matter if he has good feeling over the plane.

the 747-8 has about the same range as the a-380, except is approximately 16% more efficient, so, operating costs are lower. In addition, the price tag is about $40 million less then the A380. Currently, the 747-400 is about $60 million less than an A380. FY 2008 Deliveries: Airbus A380 = 12. Boeing 747 = 16 Boeing 747-8 scheduling pushed back.

Well boeing have manufactured 125,000 aircrafts and Scare-Bus has produced 250!
The 744 is a workhorse and bullet proof. Not like all the ground Gay380!
Even AirFrance the majority shareholders of Scare-Bus have grounded their 2 A380's..
Oh what about the sudden nose dives on the A330's that crashed Airfrance from Rio and the sudden nose dive Qantas experienced!
Jumbo's flying since 1970's and not one technical fault has brought one down!
Punch line.. "If it aint a Boeing i ain't going" Period.

I would also like to point out that more Boeing aircraft have crashed in the last 30 years in comparison to Airbus.
125 Boeing incidents vs 25 Airbus.
It is quite clear that fly by wire reduces pilot error the number one cause of air accidents today.
The manual Boeing yoke allow pilots to make more mistakes.
