  • Would love to hear this thing loaded up..Working in the hills..

  • @yogisgone

    Thank you!

  • Gotta love the snoorkling !

  • @1339LARS

    Thank you!

  • Very few trucks with Detroit 2-strokes ran over here in the UK - more's the pity. Some Bedfords - mostly TM 4x2's and some Scammells. Love that sound.

    Tony, Derby, UK

  • nothing like that v8 sound

  • WOW nice truck i am getting a 1973 Dodge D900 with a 13 spd adn a 318 to fix up i hope to have it home in a week ot two hope it sounds and looks as good as your KW when I am done

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor that is a realy good truck well done bro is that eaton fuller transmission

  • @slimG2082 muito foda

  • I wanna restore one someday... They are gorgeous trucks...

  • hot damn than man can really shift!!

  • Super-Tuff old truck. Love the split shifts and jake music. Awesome, thanks for loading.

  • You just can't beat that awesome sound. Quite literally nothing sounds better than a screamin' detroit.

  • damm sweet truck

  • @MegaBesomeone

    Thank you!

  • The 318 hp Detroit , also known as the 8V-71, was a 9.3 liter engine, which figures out to 568 cubic inches.

  • My first truck was a '70 International cabover with a 318 Detroit and a 13 speed Roadranger. You had to drive those 318's (a V8 engine in case you kids didn't know that) "like you were mad at 'em." That was the old saying in those days. Not much sound insulation in the cabs back then. You had to yell to have a conversation.

  • @imjustpassinthru

You are so right, having a conversation was not in the manual when it comes to a screaming detroit, and driving it like you have slammed your hand in the door was another good 'ol expression

  • wow..that was power!!

  • @nazaiman94

    It was in it's day!

  • Do you have any other trucks with 318 Detroits in them?

  • I like the steering wheel cause it old fashion xD

  • @DragonGodOFAndy

    All 22 inches of it!

  • @CSXtrackworker no that was a kenworth w900a with a detriot in it!!

  • I can't get enough of listening the sound of your vid! Detroit Diesel is the best engine ever built!!!

  • @StrassenbahnBenny You're so right; unfortunately there are very few of them left where I live. If I want to hear the scream of the 2 stroke I usually have to go to Youtube and watch videos of trucks with them. I've bookmarked a bunch of them in my favorites

  • @StrassenbahnBenny

Thank you, and yes what an engine

  • can we get a look at the outside?

  • @sledhill At the beginning of the video there is a picture, that is all I have posted at this time.

  • awsome

  • god dam boy that is slippery shifting, sweetest shifting I seen in a while

  • @Mack10001988

I agree with you - my brother does have that gift!

  • Does that truck have an AC?

  • @rudge1982

It sure does, roof mount Kysor and it will freeze and drown you out...:-)

  • I want to drive that truck, i could listen to that jake all day (c:=

  • BEAUTIFUL TRUCK, LOVE THAT SOUND!!!!

  • @drissofish

    Thank you!

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor Why don't you ask your brother if he did any stunt driving in Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive would ya, cause he certainly looks like he knows what hes doing.

  • i cant get enought of the sound of an old detroit, specially with a jake brake!!!!

  • sounds like a low rpm racing motor :)

  • Comment removed

  • nice truck we had a 1971 white westeren star gravel truck with a 318

  • sounds like kenworth from maxium overdrive, luv that truck great video.

  • @The43501 actually that was an old western star in Maximum overdrive.

  • part 3 please!!!

  • what model kenworth is that

  • @FBIisurmama

    It is a W925

  • bob tailing, starting in 3rd often... still an awsome truck!!!

  • 318 good

  • Man what a great sounding rig no exhaust fluid required in this one.LOL

  • awesome truck, nice shifting

  • @busfanjim

Thank you, my brother does do a fine job shifting.

  • wow. i'm truly impressed. i'm in school for advanced truck driving. ur making the shifting seem so easy.

  • boy DD's werent much for power but they sure sounded good and if you kept em wound up you could go any where. This 318 sounds very well taken care of props to ya'll on a beautiful sounding power plant. i just rebuilt a 78 6V53T and she sounds really good just like yours

  • @MegaSk2009 they made up for the lack of power by the great sound

  • Awsome truck, sounds beautiful............

  • great wrist action . you should try driving a 67 atkinson borderer with a gardener engine for comparison , nightmare

  • a white motor,, does it leak oil,,,, yet??

  • @busfanjim

It leaks oil like it should, makes her mark at every stop. I use Simple Green to keep it cleaned off and looking nice.

  • Is that truck straight pipe? It howls out quite well. Any of the neighbors complain about the noise?

  • Awesome! Just wanna know why u changed the engine color from blue to white? And how did u paint the engine so well?

  • @sledheadchris Kenworth used to have all engines painted white regardless of manufacturer. Just like International used to have all engines painted red.

  • Just beautiful, love the oldtimers, they don't make em with passion anymore

  • What a very beautiful truck , keep up the videos my new friend ;-)

  • U THE MANN !!!!!!1

  • what about new detroits are they 2 or 4 strokes? I cant figure this out.

  • It sounds like the truck in Maximum Overdrive.

  • This is AWESOME...hell yeah! I'd love to get this kind of shifter for my car! I've always been partial to these. I've seen MANY in my day.....I'm a physicist now, but I use to work on these.

    This is tits!

    Awesome post!

  • i'm not a big fan of kenworths, but that's a nice truck.

  • Thats such a good sound

  • Great Video & memories...the only thing that would make it "sweeter" would be if

you had "sticks" in it.....especially a spicer 4616 compound box with that great

6% even split, all the way up through the gears. I owned 2 Extended hood "A" models, with the 12V71...and dbl over 6x4's behind them...sure wish now, that I had kept at least one of them...and I turned them "up", right from new...with 100mm injectors, higher blower dive ratio, and 2,850 rpms.

  • Music to my ears! Awesome vid! Awesome sound!

  • I dont know alot about rigs b/c I am not a truck driver. But is that an air shifter?

  • @markgloverville Yes, it is.....13spd Eaton / Fuller.

  • I LOVE the sound of a Detroit. I was going to put a 4-53 in my 1953 Dodge 1/2 ton. But ran out of money. I could either buy the Detroit & not fix up the truck or visa/versa. I sold the truck years ago. There was plenty of room under the hood of that 53 Dodge.

  • Thanks guys, first trailer I ever drove, 67 KW 318 w/10 spd. Sure didn't look that good OR sound that good ... especially after a 10 hour day ! Electronic motors, auto shift, cruise control, A/C, CD players ... and even air ride seats these kids today have no clue where we've been. LOL

  • @cdldrvr I'm a kid and have a '73 KW W900 with an 8V92 and a 15sp :D i know waht you guys went through and it was heaven it even has a 42inch flat top which i found out was the biggest sleeper you could get back than lol not to mention that i also have a 56 KW with a mechanical detroit and a 5-3 split :D

  • The best sounding 318 Detroit videos on You Tube. And beautiful truck too. Sounds like you have a hollowed-out muffler. Does the truck have one stack or two? And what diameter are the stacks?

  • Finally someone who can shift a Double D..Great looking beast and sounds perfect..

  • @canadiantimberwolf1

Thank you timberwolf - My brother can really make her sing a tune!

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor Man that truck is beautiful. Nothing like the sound of an angry detroit with someone who can shift gear's like a pro!

  • what does the lever on the steering wheel do i thought that was the jake brack

  • @bombardiersnowcat

Interesting you ask, - Why it is a jake brake, we old timers called that lever the "Company Jake Brake" - we would wear out the trailer brakes before the tractor brakes.

  • @bombardiersnowcat As DDD said it is the trailer brake, but you may see, on occasion, where there is another lever on the steering column which is for a retarder, which you may mistake for being a jake brake. Retarders put hydraulic pressure against the crank's rotation and are silent as compared to a compression (Jake) brake.

  • oops it looks alot like here in central pa, I could move there and feel right at home.

  • I know this probably sounds like a dumb question(sorry) i notice that you have two splitters the one on the side and the red one. How many gears do you have and when do you use the splitters? I thought each gear has a high and low range.I notice you use the low range at first then just keep in the high range, can you stay in the high range from gear to gear as you reach the higher gears? I love trucks but I find the shifting part confusing. thanx

  • @Dulein That's a 13spd Eaton / Fuller trans. The "plunger" type (up / down) button you see on the side, is

the High / low range control...when it's down, you would go through 5 shifts (if loaded) in a dbl H pattern,

then pull up on the range selector, and 6th gear would be where 1st was in low range, and start the

pattern over, except then you would use the red "splitter " button to give you another 1/2 gear for each

whole gear position in the high range side only, up & down shifting.

  • @TurbinePower69 Thank you : )

  • i like the vintage look of the truck! i wish i had it!

  • @vjshecko9 - Thank you!

  • sure dont make em like they used to! that thing looks fun as hell! sounds like you wind it up pretty good too dammit

  • @intelceleron44 - Thank you - no reving over 24K :-)

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor ...you mean 2.4K? Or 24x100? >.>

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor 24,000 RPM? That's higher than an F1 engine. ;)

  • i wish i could read those signs out the window but it looks like you filmed this somewhare near cresson or ebensburg, whare did you film this?

  • @Mr253raymond - 67 miles SW of St.Louis Missouri.

  • very nice truck :-) super interior and addictive noise!!!!!!!!

  • @bud296 - Thank you!

  • Does it have A/C and or heaters installed?

  • @chec2002 It has the roof mount Kyser AC unit, still blows cold air while it gives you a bath going around a curve, thanks for asking

  • @chec2002 - It has both. The heater control is on the dash and the a/c is roof mounted and both work great.

  • Still sound strong..

  • slick underhood area

  • nice!!!

  • that truck is awesome guy's

  • @hughface Thank you.

  • I got an instructor at school named terry boroff you and him would make a pair cuz he loves old detroits. hes got a 6v53 in a 55 chevy apache 4x4 conversion its a nasty puppy even tho its still in the rough.

  • Gorgeous dashboard/interior between the deep red, creamy white and chrome. Immaculate!

  • love that detroit

  • Nice

  • I've always wanted to drive a truck!!!!!!

  • man that is clean

  • nice truck

  • love it mate!!

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor hmm, alright then I have *no* idea how that pattern works, lol

  • @misqueeto it is a low 3rd gear start, my mistake been counting low gear as first gear to many years

  • I'm sure this truck has never seen a Chicago railyard.

  • @thissitesucks74

The truck hauled dynamite for Tri-State and made daily runs from Bartlesville, OK to Chicago for over 20 years.

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor These Chicago railyards can be truck killers. If you're gonna do that sort of work its better to drive someone elses truck.

  • Really nice truck, kept original. Makes a big difference when you don't hang all of that modern day crap on a classic. Especially like the old school aluminum wheels.

  • @nwow2866

I love them too, but hard to find good tires for them these day. Thank you for the nice comment.

  • >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SWEET <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

  • this is lik 7 minutes of heaven lol sounds awesome love those old detroits

  • awesome truck :D

  • Damn, your´e good!!

  • @1339LARS - I give all the credit to my brother, he's the gifted one driving!

  • @1339LARS - I give all the credit to my brother, he's the gifted one driving!

  • @1339LARS, well my brother has a gift that most "want-a-be drivers" would like to have, I'll be the first to say I don't drive quite like that either, but close.

  • @1339LARS

My brother knows how to make that DD hum a good tune doesn't he.

  • God Bless you Buddy. Your Dad is a great man & he taught you well. Detroit Power 4-Ever!!!!!!!!

  • @swt32567 Yes he was, thank you!

  • @swt32567, he was a great man and he made sure we treat our trucks with respect. Thank you for the nice comment.

  • So what speed is it is it 13,15,or 18

  • @undertuker13- it's an RTO913 transmission - original that came with the truck in 1967

  • @undertuker13

    It has a 13 speed RTO913

  • da gosto de ver muito bom

  • SWEEEET! and he sure knows how to treat her right...........;)

  • Thanks for not beatin' the livin' snot out of her, triple D! Seen the truck at Walcott before, what a beauty. Like the period correct stuff on it...looks real nice!!

  • @BCRification - you're welcome I love my truck!

  • @DetroitDieselDoctor

Next time you should do a drive by video.

  • reminds me of my 59 KW

  • Love the sound of that engine

  • mean trck sounds like a external wastegate

  • nice tractor! looks great!!!!!!

  • sausage fingers

  • 萌え☆

  • did you restore it yourself? and if so how long did it take?

  • Didnt have to restore, my dad did most of the work just cleaning and polishing. I replaced all the old chrome with stainless. All is original except for the paint stacks, and a few little things, did nothing to the interior it's all original. The man that owned it before me kept it in a barn every nite.

  • Nice Clean truck jakes sound good

  • thank you

  • do u ever pull a load with this kw? btw very very nice kw wish i had 1

  • Never have, only an empty SS 67 Fruehauf Volume Van 40 footer

  • i have finally found a truck I really want.

Thanks for this absolutely great video.. well the sound is all I wanted to hear and you got it in spades.

  • Nice early A model. Great work on the dash.

  • Mighty fine!!!

  • that's the sound that I miss theres nothing like a 318 with gutted mufflers especially under a load

  • You got that right - I punched out the mufflers :-) Thank you.
