  • Hi Living by example, thanks for sharing this window into your life.

  • Are your sheep corn fed?

  • ive never tried sheep cheese, but i'd love to as i'm a cheese fan :) i'm so happy to see that her sheep have their natural tails still in tact as well <3 thank you for sharing this video!

  • What is the brownish stuff you rub on the outside of the cheese?

  • I loved this video! I want to make cheese too, although I think I'm more interested in goat cheese. Lady, I really like your outlook. And I loved, "C'mon sheep, c'mon sheep!" at the beginning. Ha, they looked so happy when they were eating. I wonder if they would eat their own cheese?

  • Very nice. Looks Delicious.

  • The dairy needs an experienced Milker like me.

  • The best value for milk is to sell it as milk. Only if the milk can't be sold it should be used to produce other products.Besides there were too many women standing among the sheep. People should not be standing among the sheep. They should be free to walk in to the milking area at the milking time. After they have been milked the doors should be opened for them to move out. After a fresh batch has moved in the doors should be closed and the machines should be applied to the Teats.

  • Very lazy sheep owners. The sheep need to be sheered. That is they had a lot of wool on them. The wool would keep the sheep very hot and reduce their milk yield. The animals need to stay ccol to be able to produce milk. Besides the sheep will produce hair if they are covered with wool.

  • well , those sheep are bred exclusively for milk. Lamb and Wool are by product

  • Who is MingTheMerciful? Are you the girl who is milking the sheep? You are beautiful.

  • I have owned a sheep shearing business and sheared untold thousands. These sheep have been sheared, and if you didn't notice they have also been tagged. I don't think you know much about sheep.

  • Very good story.

  • Making your own food, weather it's cheese, beer, wine or growing veggies is such rewarding experience.

  • feta cheese is pretty simple to make. It's so good if you do it right.

  • At 2:31, what is that brown stuff that they put on?

also, a little bit later, what is that oily stuff they put on? great video.

  • Sheep bred for high milk yields can be milked even if you allow them to nurse their lambs.

Mine (Awassi) are 12 hours (day) with their lambs and 12 yours (late evening, night and morning) without them. We milk them, but I don't care about possible maximum yields (since I primariliy have them for wool and meat and only drink the milk because I like it and my familiy too).

  • What breed of sheep do you use?

  • They use East Friesian sheep. There is more info on their website: ancientheritagedairy [dot] com

  • great vide00

  • Well done. Jumping off a cliff is very scary. I keep dreaming about sheep, hence was drawn to your video.

  • yes, jumping can be scary, but many of us have faced those cliffs!! and because Kathy jumped, the rest of us can share in tasting some wonderful cheese.

  • im sry but i dont know what u mean by jumping a cliff maybe its a idiom or somethin but im not english so i dont get it :)

  • Jumping off a cliff, loriziell, generally means taking a risk. Some people consider taking risks a good challenge, others don't like to at all! And, of course, there are those in the middle too. Hope this helps you understand =)

  • ah k ty :D

  • @cookingupastory stupids ... is about seeps ... if one sheep jump ... all the sheep jump ... sheep like to jump of cliffs, sheep live dangerous :)

  • Yeah we milk our goats twice a day too. It's really remarlablle to produce your own food products at home. We depend on our girls as much as they depend on us.

  • can you clone the sheep to improve production? belive it or not I farrm land with tomatoes and I have land I can get cheese from

  • KOOL!!

  • I've been looking for sheep cheese, and it is not easy to find at your average grocery store. Farmers market here i come!

  • I thought it was sheep talking ...lol

  • At first, I thought it was supposed to be the sheep talking.. o.O

  • very nice , traditional, and natural, I raise my hat, loved ur video

  • If a sheep is a Ram and a mule is an ass, how come a ram in the ass is a goose?

Just kidding, nice video thanks for sharing.

  • when i saw your name, i thought, ok, here it comes!!

  • i dont get it :-(

  • 'mrfunnyman'...

  • LOL!

  • lol

  • did you cut the cheese

  • It would be cool to see a video on the actual process of making your cheese. I was thinking it was oil you were rubbing on the cheese but I don't know and it would be interesting to learn about.

  • Elle was adding cocoa and olive oil to the 'round', after it has aged a bit. The time I spent with them was not a day for making cheese. I did another story on goat's milk cheese where you can see more of the cheese making process, but it's not a 'how to'. Artisan Cheese on the Farm: youtube[dot]com/watch?v=8tClKqs4Mfg

  • Will you allow me to take milk off your mom?

  • yo.....yo.....yor sheep are uuugly ......lol jk

  • there was only like 1 shot of the cheese

  • This vid. made me feel peaceful. Ty.

  • I love how she feels that this is a creative outlet. I think it would be awesome if all children could experience a taste of farming.

    Nice post Rebecca

  • ANIMAL ABUSER!!

milk belongs to the children of the animals.. drink the milk of your own mum if you want to drink milk

  • My mom is 80 and won't let me near her titties.

  • wow....................

  • hahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • Agreed!

    Humans can be so perverted!

Not only exploiting non-humans, but exploiting motherhood, and stealing a mother's breastmilk? It's messed up!

  • :D LOL

so why do other animals adopt and adapt to new mothers milk which can provide any ANIMAL, including us, the supplements and requirements of nutrition we need? We were not able to man-make things as YOU might be used to- I assure you it's a million times more unlikely to gain any type of health benefit from not consuming milk in ones lifetime- and unless you suggest breastfeeding a child is perverted labor also in which case you're just contradicting AND harming yourself

  • Are you comparing an animal chosing to be a surrogate mother to humans enslaving animals, forcing them into pregnancy, taking away and killing their children, and stealing the breastmilk for themselves???

And how can you compare a mother feeding her child to someone forcing another into pregnancy & killing her baby in order to exploit her for her milk?

    I wasnt RAPED.

    I wasnt IMPRISONED.

I did not have my child RIPPED FROM ME so that someone else could STEAL the milk.

  • oh yeah because clearly this private farm is killing the babies and stealing the mothers. SURE.

you watch this to go 'oh OH thats so SICK'

don't comment because people are here to enjoy food and what GOD gave them :D\

plus animals dont get raped by each other

    are you mad?!

and believe me, what ever bad people do to animals it can and HAS happened to people. Try making a change for your own messed up kind before assuming what other kinds of animals WANT XD

  • Even if they don't kill the babies, they still exploit and enslave and steal from sentient beings. Non-humans are not made for humans anymore than blacks are made for whites or women are made for men. Sentient beings are NOT COMMODITIES. They are not property to use for your own personal benefit.

Don't tell me not to comment when you are defending the slavery and exploitation of innocent beings who I happen to care about.

Mothers are not milk machines for the pleasures of others!

  • "plus animals dont get raped by each other"

So when a human puts his arm up an animals vagina to place sperm in it (artificial insemination) the animals ask for it first??

So why does the dairy industry use restraining apparatus (the industry sometimes refers to them as "rape racks") to inseminate them?

  • Cow's do not CHOOSE to have a human ram his hand up her vagina and stuff bull sperm into it. Cow's do not CHOOSE to love and bond with their babies for 24 hours then have them ripped away so they can cry for weeks in the spot the child was last seen. Cow's do not CHOOSE for their babies to live in dark boxes than murdered for veal. Cow's do not CHOOSE to produce breastmilk for an adult of a different species to take it from them.

Please for their sake, wean yourself onto solid food.

  • Forgot this was a video about sheep, it's been awhile since I commented on here.

Anyways, sheep (or other mammals) don't want to be forced into the things I listed for cows either.

  • :) people do use each other to breastfeed their own children if they can't so how is it ANY different than people using animals who can supply us milk all of the time for the same important reason? People are the only animals which NEED calcium and all of the goodness from milk throughout life-- WOMEN more than men- and a deficiency of this can cause serious problems for development and aging. Early humans drank milk, its in human nature. Anyway...

    My sister was a vegan

    she died.

  • People rape and enslave eachother to sell off their kids in order to steal the milk? Seriously? Can you tell me where the heck something like this is allowed to happen?

Certainly not here in North America.

  • "People are the only animals which NEED calcium "

WHAT?? ALL animals need calcium! We all have bones!

Calcium is found in many foods: spring greens, kale, broccoli, parsley, soymilk, white flour products, tofu, oranges, tahini, figs, black molasses, collards, mustard greens, black beans, Swiss chard, and fortified juices.

Please do some research! You can get calcium in FOOD, not just breastmilk!

  • The best thing about plant-based calcium is it's easily absorbed. Animal products contain animal protein, which encourages calcium to be passed through the urine (look it up).

Animal milk is now considered one of the most ineffective ways of obtaining calcium.

Places that consume the most animal milk have the highest rates of osteoporosis (look it up).

  • My grandpa ate meat. He died.

My friend's dad drank water. He died.

My friend's aunt wore clothes. She died.

    SO WHAT?

  • Ok, yeah everyone dies.

I actually considered being vegan due to my love for animals WHILE my sister was

AND SHE got to the point where she avoided the doctors MOST OF THEM, because they said vegans aren't healthy. That went against her sudden morals. She got sick, she died. But vegans want to sacrifice, FINE.

enjoy being vegan while it lasts

    you cant do it forever

and people to drink milk and eat meat aren't crazy monsters who don't care. Ugh! Vegans!

no one likes to admit they are wrong.

  • I haven't found a single doctor who has disagreed with my diet. I have been FAR healthier than I was as an omni. If she got sick for nutritional reasons it was because of a deficiency, NOT because of veganism. You can easily get all essential nutrients from a vegan diet. If someone is vegan and gets a nutritional deficiency to the point of death, THEY did something wrong.

  • You could be a vegan and only eat carrots and crackers, and die from nutritional deficiency.

You could be an omnivore and only eat chicken wings and cheese and die from nutritional deficiency.

Check out the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada's position on vegan diets (available online)

Yes I CAN do it forever. Thousands of us do it. Donald Watson, who coined the term vegan, died at 95.

  • so you like eating mushroom?

  • No, I hate mushrooms. Why do you ask?

  • why u so extreme ?? chill out ,u will live longer, your comments are mean.and your not open minded

  • Non-violence is not "extreme". Exploiting and enslaving others is extreme.

If I live longer by not caring for others, then it would be a long but wasted life.

I am mean for caring for the victims of exploitation? I am mean for speaking out against abuse and slavery??

Obviously I am open-minded or else I would still be a speciesist omni hunter/fisher. I have made so much change because I have an open mind and am willing to think about what I do to others.

  • yeah ok,,your a fuckin wacko!!

  • I like the fact that she mentioned that people are sick of fast food ect. I entirely agree, and it must be at least if not more since I've had a Big Mac or anything like it or any other such fast food. Big Mac make me through up. I love the life style that you have.

  • wow holy tits i just randomly typed in cheese and i got this. 24 THOUSAND views??? holy tits man! its a frigen goat and cheese! wtf!?/1 still, i respect your ways of goat milkin

  • i can't wait to make cheese from my goats' milk this spring

  • that's great to hear, abluechipstock. have you been making cheese from goat's milk for awhile?

  • no this is a new venture for me, i love the cheese though

  • hey who knows the background music at 3:12? it stops at 3:26

  • Hi ibecoool, it's from garageband.

  • THAT IS REALLY GOOD

  • Awesome! I'd love to try some, the closest I've ever tried was goat cheese, but then again I don't think it was very good goat cheese.

  • I'm a big fan of goat cheese, cuz, I guess, had some really good goat cheese. It does exist =)

The sheep cheese had it's own flavor, very dense, and good too. It's just not as available, yet. As it catches on, I think more dairies will make it, if they can.

  • This is such a real story and not some packaged, edited story as we have on TV news channels. THANKS

  • I really believe in hearing the story straight from who it is about. Thanks for saying something!

  • Really nice video! Thank you for sharing.

  • Thanks, Summer! I understand sheep's cheese has been around for centuries, and is just starting to catch on here in the States. Have you seen much of it in your part of the world?

  • it is very widely used in the middle east especially during spring time when it is fresh from all the new milk of the sheep moms! the aged one is very strong in flavor and popular.

  • Mmmm, sounds yummy too. Maybe you'll have a recipe for sheep's cheese soon! Spring is just around the corner =)

  • :)

maybe i will have a recipe for that although i have never made cheese!! i have a recipe where you can use it in salads or some form of little baked pies...there is some kind of it that is boiled and preserved in salt for the whole year in containers and eaten in the summer time with watermelon and pita bread. it makes one of the best snacks or light dinners!

  • Wow! Actually, I was just thinking of ways to use it. Kathy, in the video, oftentimes just puts some over pasta and lets it melt. That sounded good too!

  • We actually milk out cats.

  • I don't know, Reliable. I think you'd get pretty scratched up if you tried that.

  • Ahhhhhh. I wish I could just crawl into that video and live on a sheep cheese farm forever...

Wonderful how you capture the experience for us.

  • Thanks, Ms Betty! Kathy's farm had a special quality to it, tucked into the foothills of the Cascade range. Y'know, I could arrange for a long visit...it's possible she wouldn't mind an extra pair of hands!!

  • Nice video. I agree, I think life is too fast sometimes too. Probably more people than you think that live such a fast paced life that dont know where milk or cheese even comes from or maybee dont even care. Keep up the good work.

  • Yes, not only am I learning so much, my kids are learning too.

  • is it crazy that I didn't know anyone milked sheep?

  • Ms. Famous, I was in the same boat as you. I found out when doing a story with some cheeseheads (the story: cheese by hand). It took me awhile, but I found Kathy and her family and went to visit. Great folks, and a great product!

  • It's sad that I can only give this vid 5 stars... I wish I could give it more.

    KEEP EM COMING!!!!!

  • I am! I am! and thank you, zm. =D

  • Peaceful farm-life...

  • Yes, it is that. It was hard to drive away from cuz a part of me wanted to stay.

  • Hey - a Catskill Mtn. tee shirt. Hey, y'all out there in Oregon from a slow food enthusiast and fellow farmer right here in the Catskills. I sent the link to this vid around to friends who will also enjoy it! Best of luck to your family, your sheep and your lovely dogs. :)

  • Hey back to you whiteTiger! I will pass your greetings on to Kathy and family (including Bonnie, the herding dog!). Glad to hear you like the slow way too.
