Hilarious! I sometimes use Peter's closing line on people, but they never get the reference. I haven't read about the making of the movie, but I've got to surmise that Peter ad libbed this whole thing. I haven't read the book, but I doubt that the scene happens in this comical fashion, if at all. It seems as if Kubrick let Peter do his thing in this scene, which is incongruous with the tone of the rest of the film.

@juslookin3 well... not really... there`s a very weird scene where Humbert tries to open a bed without waking up Lolita, and it`s just plain slapstick comedy. I think you could write three 500 pages volumes about what Kubrick and Nabokov together decided to do when they adapted such an amazing book into this unsettling -and also amazing- film...
