@kiamasters There was no cliffhanger in Reach- The game is the prequel, so you already are supposed to know what happens at the end. Here's the clarification; Noble 6 dies, but his efforts of delivering the Package (AI Cortana) to the Pillar of Autumn allows for the survival and success of Master Chief, and the human race. That's it- you die so everyone else can live. At the end of the credits, they show the ship returning to Reach, once again full of life.

According to Diablo's storyline, Diablo actually counted on that you would stab yourself in the head with the rock. So it's a "you lose even if you win" game, huh? It only adds to the stupidity your character portrays...I'm not being Captain Obvious, am I?
I will say that halo 2 did end with an epic build up, however i didn't get into halo till odst came out, so I didn't have to wait a year to "finish the fight". I was able to start the third one within the minute it took to switch games, so I didn't dodged the screw you that the end gave, but am hit with the screw you that makes us wait for halo 4. Also, an interesting link to diablo and skyrim. It possible the hero from oblivion is in it, if you played shivering isle. Theres subtle hints its "u"
The end of Light and Darkness looks like a foreshadowing event, 1000 years have passed since the end of the game... the guy (could even be one of the "evil spirits" from the last 1000 years) even says "beware the apocalypse"

I loathed the ending for Red Dead Redemption *SPOILER* All he wants is to settle down with his family, and just live a normal ranchers life.. and then John Marston gets shot with a 100 freakin' bullets for no reason! If that was the ending for a bad character, fine. But not a good guy.

It showed that the so called good guys were truly the bad, and the bad were actually the good. It showed unfair justice and corruption, which sucks but fits. It did feel bitter sweet though when Jack got to take him down. And if your quick enough John can even take the bad guy down.

@Ashinek Let's look at the warrior's options. He couldn't destroy Diablo's soulstone because the only way to destroy a soulstone was at hellforge (unknown at the time). He couldn't leave or hide the stone because it could manifest itself again as Diablo, so he thrust the stone into his head, imprisoning Diablo's soul with his own mind and willpower for as long as he could.
I think the ending's point was that evil cannot be killed. It can only be subdued. It's too bad the reviewer missed it.
@fireysoul25 Actually no, Diablo was still the villain in the second series. It wasn't the warrior that destroyed the tavern and freed Mephisto, it was Diablo. The warrior fought him for control all the way to the tomb. He gave up his life to subdue Diablo for as long as he could.

I don't get it, why is Halo 2's ending so bad? I mean, yes it was a huge cliff hanger, but what more were fans expecting to see at the end? It was inevitable that Halo 3 would be the big finish, so what exactly was expected from Halo 2's ending? I don't get it, it otherwise was an incredible game.
Maybe i'm wrong but I remember, that in Diablo, at the end the hero stabs his own head, because that rock containing diablo's soul or essence has an effect like Sauron's ring (u know, making u evil and some sort of mind control)
what you don't get about diablo is that the hero thought that he/she was strong enough to keep the demon inside the stone contained, and the only way to do that was to shove the SOULSTONE (not a rock) into his/her head. sadly, they weren't strong enough and the demon/ Diablo possessed them and transformed them into his body or whatever. they had no choice in the matter.

Diablo did not have a bad ending. The hero didn't intentionally jam the stone into him/her self. He/she had a reason. The hero thought it could hold back Diablo from harming others, but of course he/she failed, so then that leads to Diablo 2.

This isn't a list of "bad endings" this is a list of "I should have thought the story should have done something else". A bad ending is when the main character suddenly wakes up from a dream or realizes he's the killer, cliche or hackneyed equals a bad ending, not a storyline you happened to not like.

Diablo - It was pretty well implied he had no control over himself when the stone embedded itself in him.
XIII - I am forced to disagree. Downer =/ Bad ending. It was a great ending for the Comic Noir style, because that is exactly how books like that do.

if it weren't for the fact that it just came out, I'd add RAGE to this list, I beat within 3 days of renting it, played it for a total of maybe 5 hrs.... it's bs, I thought it was 20+ hr. game!

@Ashinek Let's look at the warrior's options. He couldn't destroy Diablo's soulstone because the only way to destroy a soulstone was at hellforge (unknown at the time). He couldn't leave or hide the stone because it could manifest itself again as Diablo, so he thrust the stone into his head, imprisoning Diablo's soul with his own mind and willpower for as long as he could.
I think the ending's point was that evil cannot be killed. It can only be subdued. It's too bad the reviewer missed it.

@fireysoul25 Actually no, Diablo was still the villain in the second series. It wasn't the warrior that destroyed the tavern and freed Mephisto, it was Diablo. The warrior fought him for control all the way to the tomb. He gave up his life to subdue Diablo for as long as he could.

@jvirgreen but in the end it diablo's evil was too strong to be subdue(seeing how it took him over.proving that evil can't be subdue at least not for very long) i didn't say he didn't try.i just say he failed at it and in the long run it was a poor decision to stab him in the head that rock.

@fireysoul25 Sure it's folly, but it's heroic folly and against an unbeatable foe, necessary. I mean, maybe he could have just kept the stone on him, but how long would it have been before the demon resurrected and either escaped or killed the warrior? No, actually I think I covered this in a prior post.
Any other ending would have spoiled the diabolic vibe of this game (no pun intended).

@TheThing88 I think the point of the list wasn't to say the games were necessarily bad, just the endings were a let down. I'm sure people would have had a 'wtf' look on their face if they played Halo 2 and got to a point, thinking they were going to go on with the game and the credits roll up.

I don't get it, why is Halo 2's ending so bad? I mean, yes it was a huge cliff hanger, but what more were fans expecting to see at the end? It was inevitable that Halo 3 would be the big finish, so what exactly was expected from Halo 2's ending? I don't get it, it otherwise was an incredible game.

Maybe i'm wrong but I remember, that in Diablo, at the end the hero stabs his own head, because that rock containing diablo's soul or essence has an effect like Sauron's ring (u know, making u evil and some sort of mind control)

what you don't get about diablo is that the hero thought that he/she was strong enough to keep the demon inside the stone contained, and the only way to do that was to shove the SOULSTONE (not a rock) into his/her head. sadly, they weren't strong enough and the demon/ Diablo possessed them and transformed them into his body or whatever. they had no choice in the matter.

Diablo did not have a bad ending. The hero didn't intentionally jam the stone into him/her self. He/she had a reason. The hero thought it could hold back Diablo from harming others, but of course he/she failed, so then that leads to Diablo 2.

This isn't a list of "bad endings" this is a list of "I should have thought the story should have done something else". A bad ending is when the main character suddenly wakes up from a dream or realizes he's the killer, cliche or hackneyed equals a bad ending, not a storyline you happened to not like.
Oh and criticizing a game for not ending a storyline (aka halo 2/ Diablo) is just stupid.

I hate how everyone bitchs about the Halo 2 ending with out knowing the reason to it ending in a cliff hanger. If anyone watchs Bungies newest ViDoc they said they had to cut a full quarter of the game off because of in company problems and times limits. Bungie fully planed a ending to Halo 2 but was forced to remove it and give it the cliff hanger you wont stop bitching about.
