omg I remember when I first wanted to do a roll and ignored the "advanced" part of this video but now it's been a few months, I got the roll down, so I think I can handle this ^o^
on the impact part, what is the difference between the second roll compared to the first one? the camera angle change so it kind of made it too hard to see the difference.
pls someone help i think got everything down to T besides for step 4 reverse blocking and recoil, by recoil do you push off the ground as soon as u make conyact or what and by blocking ???????????
Man, you make it look so easy... I tried my first parkour roll yesterday, running at full speed, and got the wind knocked out of me... This shit is so much harder than it looks!
I keep trying the roll, I always do it on carpet, and its fine most of the time, but I'm still a little too afraid of pain to try it on concrete. Idk what I need to do to fix it, but its not the smoothest, I use 3 different techniques, the triangle one, the curved arm, and the one he has in this video, but I still cant manage to get it right.
Levi!!!! does the roll hurt on concrete? cause im super skinny and my bones stick out so it hurts when i roll but is it suppose to hurt like do you just get used to the pain?
the best advice is: BE TENSE, if you tense your back your back muscels will cushion much, much more. try this out, and spread this tip, coz almost no one does.
Id say that after you watch the Roll Tutorial from urbancurrent, you should definitely watch this one! Such a GREAT TUTORIAL! Congratulations, its SOO well-made dude =]
Yeah guys, After watching the user "urbancurrent" normal roll tutorial, and then working out the flaws in your roll with their advanced roll tutorial, this video teaches you how to make it all useful.
Great job on the video.I just started in parkour/freerunning but I don't live in the city. Do you have any recommendations for practicing or finding people who do it too, because it gets boring when you do it by yourself.
I'm 13 and I'm just kinda getting into parkour so I decided to learn the roll 1st...I can do it ok now but sometimes I hit the top of my shoulder on the ground which has left a huge bruise...any tips to avoid this?
@Limabeast your landind on your shoulder bone you should land a lil bit more behind it. meaning go a bit more into the roll than landing on top of your shoulder bruising will be normal it just wont hurt. hope this helps.
Dear Levi, thanks for taking a structured and well founded approach to a more difficult part of parkour than most wuld give it credi for and crunching it into just five minutes of intense video. This really helps. Good job! Tom
No, the way to prevent this is to point your toes up rather than to just let your foot go limp. works for me and all my friends, hope that helps you to.
Sorry if this seems like kind of a dumb question, but even with these new techniques and everything rolling on really hard rough ground still hurts. is there a way to avoid this, or condition my back to make it hurt less? or is it something i just have to deal with like I've been doing?
Also, your rolls are incredible, it looks like you transfer so much of your downward momentum into forward that it throws you forward when you complete the roll!
This is the best tutorial I've seen yet. I've been able to dive roll for ages, but when I take drops people say it looks like I'm absorbing too much with my legs, most likely collapsing rather than springing. So it's time to work on the springing I think!
You've explained it more then anyone else. I just wish you could teach me personally. I a bit tall so it's hard. I have a long neck also so it's awkward
Dang thanks for this video. It really help show what i was doing wrong, and here i thought i had just cause i actually rolled. Im suddenly also craveing power thirst.
really nice tutorial levi! But do you know how you can learn this roll without making an ass out of yourself? I mean, I want to make really big roofjumps. And yes I know, you shouldn't start with such great height, but build It up. So now I can do the roll from really low on pavement. (after 1000 repeats a day O_O) but still I can't just start jumping of roofs ofcourse. So I have to increase the jumpheight a bit. But you look really stupid when you jump of a bench or something and roll!
@bboyfreefighter well from what I've done is either run with a group of people and train in one area, like an empty park, and that way you don't look like one lone nutball. Or go for a jog and if you see a good dive spot go for it... Always experiment, be safe.
damn i dident know that i was this good :D , everytime someone come up to me and ask me how to roll i allways say when u land from a drop bend slightly forward then almost "jump" into the roll , and now i see that i do it correct. That makes me happy :D well u can allways improve in whatever u do so thx Levi great TUT peace!.
excellent tute... people just need to be aware that with the first technique in the hand placement (where only one is placed on the ground and the other is tucked under) it is much easier to "flop" onto your back or into your shoulder which can cause serious damage if done under a large impact
Nice job Levi, really great in-depth look at the roll.
Also, I was wondering what camera you used to film this. I remember at PKNY last year yo had a camera with some great slow motion playback, is this the same one? I'm looking to get a high fps camera to shoot with and am just curious.
I only got to know your name when I was watching Sasuke (Nagano-san is my all time favourite), you were good, keep it up, I hope you make it to "GanZenSeiHan" in one day. ^___^
I didn't think this would help me at all seeing as how I have been doing parkour and free running for quite a while now, but it's a lot more useful than I thought it would be.

@1xXD4N13LXx1 No, this is in fact how you roll in Parkour.
Yes, people actually do Parkour.
Yes, he likely actually did this, on concrete, as he is confident he will not hurt himself too badly if he fails.
Unless you meant something ELSE was fake.
