  • 西武池袋線の富士見台駅付近にある「産直のお店 トキワ物産」という店、安納芋の焼き芋で、おいしいです。

  • yaki-imo season has come again,,,,(^^)

  • This is common in Mexico too, they also have a steam whistle sound as sometimes heard in Japan as well.

  • In My neighborhood short mexican ladies and their kids wander about pushing a stroller full of steamy corn screaming out

    ELOTEEEEEEES!

  • When you eat the Yaki Imo you sound kind of perverted O_O lol

  • I think the song is almost like some Adhan (the Islamic call to prayer) I have heard . Can't find any on Youtube that sound quite like it, but the sound reminds me of some of the prayer callers in Rabat, Morocco.

  • In hawaii we have the 'Manapua Man'. A vendor drives through neighborhoods and sells the manapua; a version of the Chinese pork bun. No haunting song. I love the yaki-imo song!

  • Thanks for the video and narrative!

  • We have the same thing in Mexico, but instead of announcing him/herself on a speaker, the mobile (barbecue) smoker releases a similar sound as a train whistle that alerts everyone in the block of his/her presence...if you are not quite familiarized with the whistle, it will scare the living crap out of you! Cheers from Richmond, Kentucky!

  • @Bigben2u They do the whistle thing in Japan too! It's very interesting.

  • In Jamaica they have trucks like that in the country. They would yell "GREEN BANANA!!! FISH FISH!!! FRESH FISH!!" Hahaha!

  • Cool vid! Great narration too! I don't speak Japanese so knowing the words to the music was great! Back in the '60's when I was just a boy there used to be a guy that drove around our streets in a small truck ringing a bell. (Like what you hear at a boxing match) He would sharpen anything you had- Sissors, knifes, lawnmower blades, you name it- for something like 25 cents each! (Back then that was a lot of money! My Dad had a good job and made around 75 cents an hour!)

  • お上手

  • 焼き芋の季節になりましたね~

    gakuranman イケメンですね~

  • Mh...I wish we had something like that, we don't as far as I know, seems handy =D

  • some times a korean man would come in the truck during rush hours here in ny near the NYU campus and he would sell kimchi once every while. the food is really delicious. just the aroma draws you in!lol but yea we have lots of people like that in Ny. its normal here..

  • Down in Los Angeles around the downtown area we have mini-markets of wheels. There is a truck that passes around the neighborhood selling things a food market would have.

  • That sounds cool. What sort of things are sold?

  • Things like onions, bananas, tomatoes, strawberrys, mostly all fruits and vegetables.

  • i have people like that all the time here in NY you have to catch them in a certain time to recieve something special or to see something special. anyone ever herd of the naked cowboy? lol well great video and ganbatte desu yo!

  • Hey I'm from NY!!

There aren't such ... vendations (lol) as loud as this.

  • Thanks for your comment! Never heard of the naked cowboy - what's that??

  • hes sum naked buff guy playes the song in his underwear on 42nd street on times square. he even got on judge milian on fox tv because his girlfriend is tired of his job. he goes out in winter spring summer and fall just playing the song "im the naked cowboy"lol

  • 熱っ~熱っ~♪

  • Oh, here in Brazil this is actually a pretty common way of selling stuff in small towns. I used to see it a lot when I was a child (never saw it again, though, so I guess it's becoming rarer and rarer).

Most common foods sold like that are "churros" and "pamonha" (a weird stuff, that I personally dislike, made out of corn). But mostly a lot of stuff can be sold like that, from bleach and detergent to sweets and salty foods. This is common in small, mostly rural, towns.

    No ice cream, though.

  • When I first came to Japan, I used to think that those yaki-imo guys were right wingers ;)

Nice vid - is your room vid shot with your new lens?

    Peace

  • Heya Hiko,

    Yes, the 20mm lens on my E-P1. Unfortunately I had it set to f/2.0 and no autofocus to avoid the horrible lens grinding noises, so everything is a bit blurry. And I was holding it with one hand while trying to pay and receive my potato! ^^;

  • Awesome!

  • Where are you man? Call me!

  • Will do! I'm near Nagoya now, so we should meet up :)

  • OMG that yaki imo song is so annoying XD

  • Of course we have the ice cream trucks and carts in the states, but over in the more Mexican populated city of Van Nuys, There were men with carts that sold corn with sour cream and cheese on it. It always smelled really bad...

  • Corn and sour cream!? Sounds positively delightful ^^;

  • It would be if it was refrigerated...
