i like the longer slide and mechanism. i have a weird thought where i prefer a gun that has an overall length that is at least 1.5 inches longer the length from the bottom of the grip to the top of the frame. i just think it looks proportionnally better.
I perceived no notable difference. Glocks have a slopply lock up and are not super-accurate to start with. Increased barrel length does very little to ensure that the bullet flies more accurately. The primary benefit of having a longer barrel/slide is the INCREASED SIGHT RADIUS. Longer sight radius makes it easier to aim. This is why the average user will be more accurate with an AR15 than an AK47 (regardless of inherent accuracy)- the sight radius is longer on the AR.
I suppose that is possible with very hot light grain 9mm ammo and being compared with a short barreled .357. If you compare similar grains and similar barrel lengths the .357 is always going to have a big advantage. Ammo capacity is a different matter.
You've mixed it up. 17L barrels will work in a 34 and 17. 34 barrels will work in a 17. 17, 24 and 17L barrels WILL NOT work in a 19 or 26. 19 barrels CAN work in a 26 but it has other issues. There is no point to using the longer barrels anyway. It gives you nothing.
@TheodoreBeza not true, you do get higher bullet velocity and tighter groupings. True you dont get the longer sight radius but i wouldnt say it gives you nothing.
@Gunlover82 nope on a handgun you get a longer sight radius and less FPS but there is a fine line for max FPS on A pistol very short low very long low has to be in the middle on a rifle you get more FPS because you have around 30 grains of power in a rifle cartridge compered to about 8 grains in a pistol much less gas to push the whole 6 inches depending on caliber and if it is +p or not can also affect the FPS
@Gunlover82 if i remember right the ballistics for a 9mm with a 4 1\4 inch barrel are (varies with different ammo) 1557FPS 268 foot pounds of force and with a 5 inch is 1496FPS 287 foot pounds of force
@masterofnotmuch good to know, i was under the impression it was universal. though i had read off of someones blog that they showed higher velocity from the longer barrel. i'll have to see if i can find it again and make sure i didn't misread. thanks.
@Gunlover82 no problem but like i said that is for factory ammo UMC if i remember right you can make and\or buy a hotter round and might get a higher fps
@juice9x030 some would avoid using the lighter 3.5 pound triggers in carry guns. In my opinion, they are all as safe as the user and regularly carry a Glock 34. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER!
Glock 17L is perfect for steel competition. add a threaded wolf barrel and a muzzle break and nothing beats it. Put s&j opt mount wth a c-more sight and you are cooking with gas...
The 17L and 34 are both great guns, even a poor shot can peg shit every time. I was just introduced to them about 3-weeks ago and already bought a 17L.
slide should still fit. however, the slide is not a firearm and shipping it to Glock USA or Glock Austria should not be that difficult on import/export requirements.Have you talked to them or a dealer of their's there in Ven? They are normally extremely helpful on warranty replacements. The new slide should fit, but call them and ask, they want to help you.
I have a first generation glock 17L but the slide has a crack on the side... Do you know if the new replacement slides work on that frame??? I´ve been researching but haven´t found any answers about it
they do. Just call Glock in georgia and they will almost certainly replace the slide, and maybe even the frame too. remember to ask for them to pay for your shipping to them, as it can get pricey.
i dont know if its all true but i heard they made this with the longer barrel because in australia they need to have at least a 6inch barrel for the gun laws and just released worldwide to reduce costs
Bodisculpt you are thinking of the glock "17a" in contrast to the "17". The 17a has a slide the same length but the barrel itself is slightly longer so it sticks out from the slide a little. My vid will explain. This was done by glock to meet australian minimum length laws.
some of the competitions require the gun to fit in a certain size box. others have size requirements to fit in different competition classes. in either case the 17L is impossible to use or puts the user at such as disadvantage as to not be worth using.

Very accurate at long distances, but I recommend using a higher powder load ammo... I have one and I love shooting it...

I love my Glock 17L
I have put a Dawson front fiber optic sight & a factory adjustable rear on the slide..
Also put an over travel set screw in the trigger housing..
All 17Ls come with the extended magazine release but not the extended slide stop lever, I also have put a factory extended slide stop lever in mine..
My 17L is a 1990 2nd generation Glock..
Enjoy!!
Thanks for having a video on the 17L..

Sure. Pretty much any Glock besides the Glock 36 is suitable for self defense.

Whats the advantage of the "L"? Higher bullet velocity than a G34?

@bballbill6
Primarily a longer sight radius.
TheodoreBeza 1 year ago
@TheodoreBeza I would say the "L" means large.

17L barrel in a 17 slide? YES.
34 barrel in a G19- NO.
TheodoreBeza 2 years ago
@762full
They still make it, or will make it soon. It is not an "in demand product" so they only produce them in runs every couple years.
TheodoreBeza 2 years ago
NO. The lugs are different. A 17L barrel can be used in a 17L, 34, or 17. NOT a 19.

I think they produced the G17L as a competition gun, to go along with the G34. I would love to get both the 34 and the 17L to add to my collection.
Woody61475 3 years ago
17L's length hurts it in many of the formal competitions.
TheodoreBeza 3 years ago
I see... Does the length make it harder to draw from a holster?? I am not a competition shooter, so I do not know. I just figured as such. :-)
