Just have to say this, but he was VERY lucky to have won the car with as much bouncing around that he did. He kept stalling and not paying too much attention to what was coming up.
Alex gave a longer description of the rules on this episode. I wonder if this episode is from the first weeks of the run (May 1987 or pre-June 5, 1987 something)? Because the Ford Festiva debuted in 1986 and Dodge Shadow (the car that was won in this clip) made its debut in 1987.
Notice the car symbols were off-kilter in this bonus round? I bet you it was chromakey work, with the panels flipping to reveal part of an art card with fifteen symbols on it, rather than having the car symbols computer-generated.
I hope he enjoyed sweating like a pig in that car since it didn't have A/C. I would've told 'em to give me half of it's value in cash and I'd be happy.
Good work for Jason to be able to accoplish the feat with seconds to spare. I love the bonus round, It's cerebral, it's exciting, anf it fits well with the rest of the game. Jason was probably to nervous when it came to beating the clock. Some of us may be smart thinkers but not fast thinkers.
That was used on numerous of NBC game shows from the late 1970s-1980s like "Stumpers", "Password Plus", "Chain Reaction", "Sale of the Century", "Hit Man", "Your Number's Up", and "Blockbusters '87", just to name a few.
This must be from around late November-early December 1987, b/c they're using the chyroned-in sports-jacket font for the timer, b/c they did the same thing in 1987 eps. of Super Password when they were flashing the score display on screen as well.

Cool game... but there's one thing I DON'T like. That is, one of the cars is impossible to win (since it doesn't match anything.)

That's what made it so fun.

"You can do it, Jason. Don't panic!" LOL!

haha, $7500 was the value of the car. You can't even get most motocycles for that low today!!!

I remember this show from when I was REALLY little. Too bad they don't show it on GSN.

I guess the usual Eggcrate timer wasn't working that episode. :-)
gshowguy 3 years ago
Indeed, why didn't they use it that time?
TonyDuMont 3 years ago
They must've had a difficulty with the timer, therefore using an alternate

The timer reminds me of "Alphabetics" on Password Plus.
