Swimming Mini Schnauzer

we are taking care of 2 mini schnauzers and when we had a pool, they would step in and drink some water, but they would never swim in the pool.

Most schnauzer's HATE water. I only met one who loved it. I'm getting a white mini from a breeder and he ahs 4 more. He was telling me how only his other whitey Sam loves water, but his wifes dog Coady HATES IT!

My dog Raven loves the ocean! I also have another mini schnauzer, Kylie, who absolutely loves going in the pool. It all depends on the early socialization by the breeder or in some cases personal preference of the schnauzer...

I'm glad to know my schnauzer isn't the only one that's scared of water. He'd never seen water before but he knew he hated it from the start.

My schnauzer used to play with a chocolate lab when she was 3 months old, and the lab was afraid of my pool so she used to run around the pool over an over getting closer and closer--until one time she ran right into the pool! Fortunately I was in the pool and grabbed her. From then on she got swimming lessons and I trained her where the steps were. She used to love laying on the raft after a little swim. You just have to make sure to dry the inside on their ears if they get water inside.

my schnauzer hates water if it pertains to a bath (sink, tub, pool, ect.) but he sure doesn't mind finding a mud puddle to roll in when we're not around:P

Schnauzers are generally not big on swimming. I've seen a handful swim, but most don't seem interested in being submerged in water.

Not mine, My schnauzer jumps into the water. He loves it!

None of my schnauzers have EVER liked the water. They detest the pool, and are terrified of the ocean.

@scruffylittledog my schnauzer, Mandy, loved getting in her kiddie pool before we moved. We haven't gotten her another one yet. After she would play in the water she'd go and get in the bed.

My Miniature Schanuzer was afraid of even taking a bath. Hated the rain. But I bet he would have been able to swim if he had to.

@sonicshaver I dunno about that, my Schnauzer never really could swim. She'd just sink to the bottom of the pool and run out.

@snowsyrosy Doubtful considering her 'summer cut' was pretty much just a straight-up shave. She 'encountered' the pool while her hair was shaved pretty short. We only let her fur get longer and fluffier during the winter months.

@SPSchnepp2 well i have a miniature schnauzer and it fell of the dock at my cottage and at the time i didnt know she could swim but in 3-4 feet of water the first time she had ever went swimming she she swam to shore really fast

I often wondered if my m/s can swim. He does not like water so I won't torment him into trying to see if he can swim!! His name is Bentley!

@Jettnround my aunts dog that well its more mine than her lol...hates water too..hates baths...but its because he gets cold very easily.....a month ago we took him to the beach and at first he got in the water b/c we did but ass soon as he saw the seagulls he started chasing them and getting into the the water after that day i noticed he was more comfortable taking a bath... but now he has started to dislike baths again..i think b/c weather changing
