  • A complete libertarian makes no sense in this day in age. Most libertarians are not actually libertarians either, they just think that it means being responsible for your self and yourself only, although your freedom today relies on other people's lives. So this little to no Govt. idea is kinda irresponsible in itself.

  • It is a TOME not a TOMB---lol

  • That's so true about the digressing!! God, 18th century writers digressed so much...

  • The whole problem with NCLB is not that it tests whether students make a certain level, it's that it punishes schools for not getting their students to the wrong kinds of skills.

If schools taught students to think, discern, communicate, read write and do arithmetic, that would be actually great. We waste so much time getting scientists to appreciate Shakespeare while some dumb-ass thug gets a bye even though he can't actually read.

  • The Bush doctrine said that the leaders of america see it as their responsibility to defend the world from evil and reserve the right to intervene with violence at any time, anywhere they want in the world.

That's far from traditional republican values.

  • George is the man. PJ is rad, but George is the best interviewer in a while.

  • I've seen two or three other interviews from The Hour and I must say the host conducts some of the most dynamic, thoughtful, unpretentious interviews I've seen. Wish we got the show down here.

  • HUNTER. RIP. WE MISS YOU.

  • @blackfrancis55 but who is Hunter?

  • He's not an insider he's a political cartoonish writer who ahs conservative leanings.

  • stop defending Bush man !!!

  • god, i love chicken.

  • Oh, BTW, one of the things he harps about is Dubya's 'No Child Left Behind' programme, which helped break the chokehold of Teachers' Unions on the school system in the U.S. Here in Alberta, Canada, we have a successfull charter school system. I thought 'conservatives' wanted more parental control over schooling? Vulgar Marxism really does explain everything: O'Rourke's employer, the Rolling Stone, is A Democratic Party rag. Guess who the teachers' unions funded in the last Federal election?

  • acsial is an just some idiot who schtick is to cuts&paste the same "Ah PJ O'Rourke..." on everyone of these videos - just ignore him

  • He's a Libertarian, man. Not a Republican.

  • You know, if you really feel that way about NCLB, why not write PJ a letter? He would listen.

  • Ah, P J O'Rourke...

He once wrote something to the effect that Wahhabis are really no different/worse than U.S. biblethumpers.

He's another one of those "overpopulation is hogwash!" types.

Like Pat Buchannan and Dick Cheney, he was another 'conservative' who weaselled his way out of the Viet-Nam war. He also thought that sanctions against Apartheit SAfrica were wrongheaded.

This guy is just a right-wing Noam Chomsky--hoping people will forget his past stupidity.

  • Actually he is quite open about his past stupidities. On numerous interviews I´ve heard

him admit to his past wrongs and numerous discretions. He is more libertarian than republican but unlike Noam Chomsky he is not an anti-American American.

  • PJ is an American with understanding. A rare creature.

  • lol. imagine this pissant trying to debate anything with PJ O'Rourke. Please, if you're so concerned about over-population, you could do us all a favour.

  • O'Rourke's population poo-pooing went to the effect that--with (then) current population levels (~5B) and a density of Manhattan--the world's people could live in the former Jugoslavija. Like all overpopulation naysayers, PJ never considered the collapsing fish stocks, nearly-depleted aquifers in India, and imminent dustbowl in the Prairies and other environmental things. He also thinks it's 'racist' to say that third world people have too damned many kids...which they do. Very 'liberal'...

  • I used to run with P.J. back in the day we both were banging the commie chicks with the ballet slippers in Baltimore when he wrote for "Harry"....would love to touch bases forty years later......

  • You're not "Uncle Mike" are you?

  • P.J. is the most brilliant satirist/humorist since Mark Twain, George is the wittiest and most intelligent talk show host on TV, (bar none) and could someone please tell them I said so.

  • George is awesome... come on!

  • "tomb" is to "tome" as "oot" is to "out".

  • P. J. was great - have read him since '89.

"Times they are changing" ~ B. Dylan

  • The interviewer probably has no idea about the historical references PJ makes. Funny to watch.

  • Good interview.

  • He and Bill Maher should do more shows together. Hilarious!

  • o'rourke is some sort of dave barry dipped further into politics.

  • Hahaha how the fuck could he pick Paul?

  • PJ deserves his own show.

    George doesn't.

  • My thoughts exactly..the george kid is not very bright...! I certainly would like to see PJ with his own show! I wounder if he has ever considered this or if he has ever been offered it?

  • "A 900-page tomb." I hope that's just his Canadian accent.

  • Oh thank God. I thought I was the only one thinking "you didn't".

  • no we pronounce it correctly up here..if we know what the word means :)

  • Jesus, even Canadian linguistic chauvinism is boring.

  • The interviewer needs to avoid booking people smarter than he is.

  • @HagbardCeline42 That would limit him severely. As well as most people with talk shows in general. But him especially.

  • @kjahner42 You have an excellent point.

  • @HagbardCeline42 He conducted a great interview. What the hell is your problem? Got something in your butt that you don't like?
