  • I grew up with a GBA and all the DK games for it. Sure, I wish it was all SNES. They make what they can. This port isin't as bad as everyone says it is. Some songs are better or worse. That's ok because it evens out somehow. I became obssesed with the series because I played the GBA, the only port that had DKC out at the time. I would have never discovered SNES if it wasn't for that. GBA got people of our generation into good games, saved some of us from 360 and PS3.Now some of us might playSNES

  • Nintendo, can we please have this in our Ambassador Program?

  • OMG, this sounds like a war x_X

  • I love the DKC seris oh man I would love them to be on the e shop if they did that I would be up all night im not joking man.

  • I really hated this level in Diddy's Dash.

  • The music is almost equal compared to the SNES one.

The differences are that all the piano notes are elevated one octave, and the background sounds are lowered one octave.

  • I'm sold, this has to be one of the coolest snes remakes I've ever seen. Gotta pick this game up for my GBA

  • U should have pressed pause the whole time

  • @gokuless

No, I did that on purpose because you can get to the bonus faster that way.

  • @Blaziken257 I just wrote this to make me LOL. :)

  • The barrel song is better in SNES version

  • @BilleDourado Actually, if you played the actual GBA version ON a GBA, you'll find that the music sounds just as good.

It only doesn't sound good here because it's recorded on a console, then transferred to a computer.

  • This level was always so freakin hard....I had it for gameboy pocket though

  • The press lied when they said the GBA was more powerfull than the SNES. It is obvious from these graphics that it's weaker.

  • @askjiir The GBA does have better graphics and is alot more powerful than the SNES.

You can't just judge it based on ONE game while you're not even looking at it through a GBA!

  • @uknownada

I have played it on the gba. Can you not CLEARLY see it is worse?? The same goes for tons of other Snes ports, so how the hell do you explain that. It's certainly not "a lot more powerfull" at all.

  • @askjiir Hmm...well, let's see:

In Yoshi's Island, it has better graphics without the FX chip, the GBA uses full-motion video, each remake of the games, including this one, have shown to have better memory in the cartridges, many games do have better graphics and sound, the game engines take less space...

Do you even know what "more powerful" means? Or are you just expecting the sounds and graphics to seem EXACTLY like they were in the original?

  • @uknownada

No. I expect the games to have BETTER graphics, not exactly the same, or worse.

  • @uknownada

Most of the time, visuals have in some way or another been toned down. That hardly speaks in GBA's favour.

  • @askjiir They make the tones darker or brighter for some people who just had the original GBA. The original GBA doesn't have a backlight, so making the game brighter helps.

And you can't really expect all of them to have better graphics because they are 16 BIT!!!

But sometimes the GBA can even do 32-bit. That's something the SNES could never do.

  • Fuck this. the gb one sounds better.

  • I had this game !!!

  • its sounds a litter higher in the gba version but lower in the snes version

  • I like the DKC2 barrels a lot more than in the first one. Because it was hard!

  • OMG the barrels are ruining the music!

  • @leatherchicky Not really, it helps support the whole bramble blast theme. There is another level in the next world with stickerbrush synphony

  • The song can't be worse than Brawl version

  • whats gba???

  • @rebsgrl

    Game Boy Advance

  • this was pretty fast but dont you think you should improve

  • nope sucks :$

  • snes is better music

  • The music is alright, and most of the graphics are fine. But the floor graphics suck, they look like someone tried to do them on the NES.

  • Honestly, I don't think this port is bad. All everybody does is expect a perfect port. Therefore, they bash all the music, new graphics, extra effects, some changes...good grief, how perfect did you want this? What's so wrong about the new map? What's so wrong with the changed noises? What's so wrong with an extra boss? WHAT'S WRONG WITH ALL OF THAT?

  • @legoking831

    It's bad.

  • @askjiir Thanks for clearly explaining why all of that is bad.

  • @legoking831

    Your welcome.

  • wow a barrel can take you to the bonus barrel

  • I actually don't mind the downgraded music that much (it still sounds pretty good), but holy washed out pallet Batman

  • was this ported to the gba after rare left nintendo?

  • the guy monkey was cool cuz he plays music =D

  • What a fuckin kool game!!....Fuuuuuck!!

  • Wow it looks like you know this level inside and out.

  • Shit, my ears are bleding now.

  • Wow so many people bitch about the gba version compared to the regular version it gets annoying after a while.

  • gba and snes are both good IMO

  • Wow what a horrible port of a great game. Mostly every thing I like about this game has be changed. Like the music, graphics, sound effects, Map screen, to much brightness, and having to pay banana coins to play the osses over agian.

  • @Theman789456123pgh like paying to fight bosses again, that's like on SNES and GBA for Super Mario Advance 2 Super Mario World. In the SNES version of that game, you can replay a castle level anytime by pressing L and R on the level at the map screen. But you can't do that in GBA. For GBA you have to beat the whole game first. Stupid...

  • this was the WORST remake ever.

Its not even a port. they simply forgot some secrets that were in the original game and changed a lotta things like the maps and some minigames...

  • i remember how bramble blast was sooo hard when i was little XD i kept shooting my self at the thorns XD

  • me too

  • @LegendOfLink5130 It's weird how if you jump up into the thorns, you take no damage.

  • I like the snes version more compared to gba. probably cuz of "leveled down" graphics. I wish they can release it on the DS which is proven to be more capable of handling the game.

plus they massacred the so melancholic and peaceful brumble music theme.

  • @Soylle Yeah, comparing GBA remakes to DS remakes, DS wins every time, like with Chrono Trigger's remake from SNES to DS, the game is still purr-fect, with many added cool stuff.

  • my rants about the GBA DKC2 1. bright screens 2. they screem like children instead of monkeys 3. EASYER!!! 4.added an acual battle on "strong hold show down" 5.MUSIC SUCKS! 6. has a LOT of stuff added to it making the game less enjoyable (hell, i'll even go with something with 1-bit graphics then play this!) 7. (see "()" on 6 8: people talk... witch sucks 9: sunset for rollorcosters? WTF!? (more to come)
  • 10: all enemy sounds were down graded

    11: same thing with buddys

12: the music for K.Roll seeps in your throat (i hate that feeling)

and i'll think of more soon.

  • ...you're seriously COMPLAINING that they added a boss battle to Stronghold Showdown? That was a great boss.

  • WOW! this was an OLD coment!

    btw i found more XP

  • Wow, the GBA ports of all games suck.

  • they made some good ports for the GBA....

  • lol at 3:21 O G and it's DIDDY

  • The SNES version is best in GBA they just fucked up the sound effects and changed the map, I hate it...

  • for an gba is this pretty good graphic

  • 1. SNES version

    2. GB version

    3. GBA version

  • well its normal that SNES version is better because GBA couldnt handle that, that was the case with super mario advance 3:yoshis island in the level touch fuzzy get dizzy they couldnt show the screen waving and all that other because the GBA couldn handle the Super FX Chip effects, but im sure the remake of DKC on Nintendo Ds would be good, because he could handle it and rare could make a use of the two screens but that time NDS wasnt out

  • oh RARE, where have you gone? this is just like nintendo's plummet into retarded cheesienes

  • rare made this, they still allowed to make things for nintendo handhelds.

  • Music on GBA version = bad.

Music on SNES version = superior.

And some people think the new gen is better than old gen. Old gen is better in ways, and this is one of them.

  • well yes, this was on GBA, it wasn't entirely up to the task. when you say new gen, the DS could do the SNES versions perfectly. in fact, I'm pretty sure you can run SNES emulators on the DS.

  • It runs a bit slow using flashcarts. Then again, it mosty depends on the Flashcart.

  • I'm wondering if I should buy the game, I loved it on SNES but I'm not sure about the gba version. ^^"

  • if u have a wii just download off of VC...i got the whole series...best 15$ ive ever spent

  • if i were you i would invest and buy a SNES off ebay for like 30 bucks and buy the games also. the originals are so much better and having an SNES is a nice novelty

  • yeah thx, I already have a snes and the original games but I'm not sure if I want to get them on gba.

Like Super Mario 64 on NDS (I liked the ds version)...

  • You know i wish donkey kong would go back to

    this.

Im tired of all the crap the apes been up to

he needs to go back and beat the hell out of the

    alligator dudes again.

    lol srry forgot there names.

  • @SilverFoxSlasher Kremlings

    Diddy: Jumps on a Kremling

Kremling: *HONK* that's always funny XD

  • I like the song alot better in SNES version. PLEASE DON'T GIVE THIS A THUMBS DOWN B4 YOU LOOK IT UP!!!

  • They both sound great.

  • yeah, they are! ^^

  • @Darksoulgurl101 yes for sure snes version is a lot better that this.

  • @Darksoulgurl101 i like em both but the gba's stuped sound fx ruin it

  • @Darksoulgurl101 I know the snes version of this song, and still... I prefer this version actually...

  • @Darksoulgurl101 Hell no, man! Not even Brawl's remix is good compared to the original SNES song!

  • The GBA one is a good game too. Some people are letting nostalgia get in the way. Both music and games are good.

  • a dream come true would be if they make a NDS version of DKC 2 with the same Snes graphics!

  • Yes! Yes! *hoping Nintendo will notice* A DS version with the same graphics as the SNES would rock sooo much! Except... What would be on the touch screen? ... Got it! It would be like New Super Mario Bros. It would Have a map of the level and would tell how much DK/ Kremling Koins you have. Nice Idea, huh?

  • @takanuva114 Same with Chrono Trigger for SNES. I have the DS version and the music is just about the same, sounds are slightly worse but acceptable, and the maps of the area are on the touch screen. Even the battle screens look exactly the same! Unless you change it to the DS battle settings, which are a little better for me...but yeah, Chrono Trigger is literally a PERFECT example of what you guys are talking about. I bet DS remakes are always better than GBA remakes of SNES games

  • or a game called Donkey Kong Country 4 for NDS

Donkey Kong 64 don't count just because they use the same villans, charters, and enimes!

  • @ShadowMew295

wel this level and music made me instant focus but on this song i cant seem to focus and yes i played both snes and gba

they shouldt had change the level apearance and the music

  • @ShadowMew295 Yes it is good, but i didn't like the way they changed the map and added that giant orange weird kremling. But it is nothing compared to the original SNES version.

  • Awesome run. I wished that the GBA version would've been better.

  • Gotta get this game to play on my DS. These are some of the best amazing graphics ever! :D Thanks for sharing this!

  • U are like over 10 years late with this comment -.-

  • LOL

  • it looks like they redid this level a bit cuz i have the second one on my wii and the begging doesn't look much like this (I think)

  • actually never mind it is the same i was thinkin of another level

  • you were probably thinking of bramble scramble

  • nthing like the original. i miss the orginal :(

  • you are a good player your are really i like you video and i rate 5 star

  • how come the GBA versions of the country games are brighter?

  • because the the original GBA had no backlight, so they made it brighter so people could see on the LCD screen

  • sidescrollers over the new shooter fad anyday

  • P.S. I don't remember if in this version they changed it, but the SNES version with riding on squawks, he doesn't get hurt if they ride on the brambles.

  • @TheSynGame Best parts for me are to see if the glitches on the snes version are still there on gba versions.

  • When I played this I was like wtf witht he sounds and songs. It looks pretty tho. You coulda did this faster.

  • I don't see the reasoning behind the statement that the song was completely butchered. I mean, it's still the same song at heart, and the quality isn't that much worse. Unless you're super picky about that kinda stuff...

  • I'm much more concerned about the cannon sounds. They're way different from that satisfying classic DK Country barrel blasting sounds. And Dixie sounds like a ditz in this version when she gets hit..but I'm just nitpicking there!

  • The main thing that sucks about the music in the level is that you can barely hear it with the unbelievably loud barrel blasts and bees. Yikes.

  • @jhman1 SNES bees: Hummm watch out or I sting...hummmm...

GBA bees: SUPER EXTREME CHAINSAW ATTACK CHOMPA CHOMPA BUZZ NOMA NOMA

  • Heehee. That was an AMAZING speedrun, for that one itty bitty banana at the end. Kinda made me giggle. X3 Nice job!

Now...I know everyone complains about this version, but I wouldn't if I were them. I mean, I think it's GREAT that we can get even just a replica of the original on a portable console. GBA did a FINE job considering that the graphics and sound quality on the SNES WERE supreme, and that this WAS a first attempt to compact a 16-bit catridge onto a handheld Nintendo system. :)

  • The music is NOT the only thing butchered but the background as well. It's too light compared to the SNES version.

  • i remember this game

  • the only thing that sounds better is the victory tunes their more clearer other than that nintendo completely fucked up!!!

  • @pleaseteacher71 Arright, let's see, Microsoft versus Rare. Hmm: Rare wins.

  • GBA version is good, but doesn't beat SNES version at all. NOTHING beats original SNES!

  • fuk yea snes for life haha.

  • HELL YEAH!! and if you don't trust me, check out mi SNES channel ; )

  • SNES version is better. Best Grafics and sounds. GBA grafics looks more a grafical reduces.

GBA hardware didnt support the most beauty snes grafics and sound.

  • What is with the barrel blast sounds. They hardly sound like a blast at all.

  • you said it. What were they thinking when they made donkey kong country 3 on GBA. The music just sucks. The graphics are bad comparing to the SNES.

  • Why's everybody hate this version? I like it, except for the drum track, which I admit's pretty weak.

  • The graphics suck on the GBA. Original is way better

  • wow , that game looks terrible on the gba. they totally messed it up. I prefer the SNES -version , its ways better

  • Sounds the same to me...

  • they burched this version the snes version is better

  • Those barrel cannons sound WAY too powerful.

  • Bramble Scramble and Bramble Blast should switch names. Bramble "Scramble" looks like it means scrambling your brain. Bramble Blast scrambles your brain because it's more of a puzzle level than a platformer. Bramble Scramble doesn't scramble your brain like it says. Anyone agree about the scrambling?

  • I agree too, I think.

  • I don't think it refers to your brain. They both refer to the movement. In Bramble Blast you're blasting around, and In Bramble Scramble you're scrambling to the finish. Wow...scramble is a weird-ass word.

  • omg, I never knew this game was so ugly on the GBA.

  • 1. The song sucks compared to original DKC 2 which had the best version of bramble blast song.

    2. The bright colors for the background take the feel of the song and the whole level away.

    3. Whenever its a remake of an old game its usually better but this? crap.

    4. The sounds are too high pitched/annoying to fit the level.

    5. The main theme of the level is supposed to be kind of mysterious and dark. Not bright and annoying.

Thats 5 reasons to agree with you man.

  • its a gba game for god's sake

  • Ill go with that theory instead.

  • yeah, you're totaly right. And all the awful added soundeffects and graphiceffects makes this port even worse.

  • I thought the music was pretty good and really liked the GBA game, possibly more then the SNES version (being able to save at any point may have been why). I don't know why everyone seems to hate it so much.

  • It suffers the same way most SNES-to-GBA games that Nintendo has ported have.

    - Worser graphics

    - Shittier sound

    - All of the qualities of the SNES versions have been downgraded

    - To make up for these shortcomings, new things are added. While that is normally good, in the case of all of the Nintendo ports, almost all of these additions feel universally out of place. Especially new sprites designed out of contrast to everything else in the game.

The only plus is the games are portable. Thats it

  • It lets you save at any point, which I think is a major plus. I thought the sound was just as good as the SNES game. On the other hand, the fact you have to pay to fight bosses again (even if you can get prizes for it) is annoying, and the new setup of Funky's Flights (the only place you can get the gryocopter ability from is the first world) is strange. Still, I did notice a small improvement in collision detection in the GBA game. Either way, though, both versions are great games.

  • I agree with you. The only thing i did not like of the GBA dkc2 was the diddy´s dash time attack mode. I prefered the DK attack, but this is a matter of tastes, because i am one of those "completophiles" who like to master and eprfect every level on every game, getting the highest grade. The DK attack mode reminded me of the Rank score system in the sonic games, that´s why i prefer it over Diddy´s dash.

  • @lseths whats collision detection?

  • The music has been butchered here

  • I hate this level! But the game is awsome.

  • @manvvv1234 Extremely hard levels always have beautiful music to invigorate you to beat em. I love that :)

  • I think I like this music more than the original, actually...

  • I agree.

  • Though, its a good port of the original, The new music score craps out, and the brighter enviorments chang the dark tone that I loved from the original. Still, preety good gameplay funtions, and the difficulty from the original is still there, 4/5

  • I think it's brighter mostly because of the old GBA itself. Circle of the Moon for example, was criticized because the game was too dark. About the sound... Well, it's the GBA. At least it's portable.

  • this came out for the GBA?

    since when?

  • Since 2004...

  • the sound effects drown out the music.

  • i hear no sound??

  • What is this? They butchered the beautiful music and graphics!

  • well the GBA isint quite as powerful as the SNES so they had to cut at someplace.

  • um what

No... the GBA is sufficiently powerful. Far more powerful than the SNES. I just took a look at the tech specs for both systems, actually, and... yeah. The SNES is weeeeak old technology (not dissing it! I love the SNES!) compared to the GBA. So there's absolutely no reason why the bonus level music's bass line sounds like someone was improvising the whole thing.

  • dude i mean side of graphic and sound arent as good as on the SNES but the memory and speed is higher.

  • Well let's just compare, shall we?

SNES Max colors at once: 256

GBA Max colors at once: 32,768

Huh. Sounds like the GBA wins in the graphics department.

I can't find any details on the GBA's sound capabilities, but I know that the SNES has an 8-bit sound chip. 8 channels. I know the GBA is capable of more than that.

So... no, I'd say the GBA is all-around more powerful than the SNES. So no reason for the graphics and sound botching.

  • well most snes game that were remade on the GBA had better graphic on the SNES so thats weird.

  • All SNES to gba ports have downgraded sound. Even a DS couldn't do this game perfectly because of the resolution difference. As for the crappy faded colors of the gba version compared to the deep, rich colors of the SNES version, I have no explanation.

  • The sound IS better! Anyway, this is one of the levels that the music HAS NOT changed. I agree with Warrior536.

  • You mean the sound is better on the SNES version, right?

  • best on the SSBB soundtrack

  • I am sorry.. but instruments an octave higher, a really cheap lazy cut-off filter simulation effect (like 4 samples as opposed to Dave Wise's original 10+) and wrong chords do not constitute as a non-change in music... not even sequence-wise.

  • the music is ok, but i prefer the snes version.

  • me too, the snes version is better, but don't think the GBA one was butchered. People are letting nostalgia get in the way to much.

  • everyone knows the golden feather does not turn you invincable! It is for expresso's racing. OBVIOUS!

    Dont take that badly.

  • I was kinda joking when I wrote that. It was a reference to Banjo-Kazooie (and Banjo-Tooie), where in those games Gold Feathers DO make you invincible.

  • when i was 4, i played banjo-tooie for the first time, i loved bottles and i cried when he died... lol i guess?

  • damn this game looks horrible, i prefer the snes version

  • Epic post.
