Well done Caroline, fabulous dish. I was going to treat mum to Penang curry tonight, but you have just sold this one.. After we spent 3years in KL i thought i would treat my mum to some flavour's that she may have forgot! Question: Do you know the traditional recipe / marinade for Satay beef and chicken. None of the commercial sold products here in UK that i have tried taste close to what we used to be served in Malaka and Port Dickson as a child? Regards Matt x
@MellorDrumatix thanks for your lovely comment, so glad you like Malaysian food, but obviously living in KL for 3 years would do that to you lol. I do indeed have a satay recipe up on Youtube and my blog which is in the description box :) It's my Grandmas recipe X
This is a great recipe, I've tried this and loved the ginger in it, mind you I love ginger full stop. To the moron who's posting nasties on here, if you don't like it f**k off and watch something else and leave the rest of us to enjoy this video!! Sorry for the language Caroline, but this asshole needs telling!
again , i enjoyed another of your video , nicely explain ! easy for anybody to follow ! Thank you . . . I am portuguese Eurasian Living in France , i know how to make this already but how you showed it was simply brilliant ! Keep the good work
after reading the comments, it's sad that there's some misunderstanding between you and some of our local friends... We're from a very minority group, most of the states didn't know that we exist in Malaysia, that is why they know nothing about our cuisine, so be proud that you had actually learnt something new which ppl still don't even know~
Although we don't usually use sugar for this dish (because most of us are diabetic), but still, you did a GREAT job~ =D thanks for promoting~ ^_^
@FlamedFireUnicorn Hiya, hanks so much for your comment, really appreciate it :) yes the original recipe was inspired from a "devil curry" like you said :) There are some many different types of curry all over Malaysia, and I am in London promoting Malaysian food to the western world, because it's so varied it's hard to pin point but people need to get a general idea, hence the titles. Thanks again :) X
Emmm..... Malaysian Curry Chicken and Eurasian Curry are totally different... I'm a Portuguese-Eurasian from Malacca Portuguese Settlement, Malaysia, and from the look of your dish and the ingredients you used, this looked like our traditional dish called Curry Dabel (Most Malaysian called in Curry Devil)...
Yummy! my mom's from malaysia and has a similar recipe but her curry is more savoury than sweet and sour. Though your's looks fabulous =) i bet it's great with roti! getting hungry haha.
caroline - ignore the haters. you did just fine. No actually more than fine. They are great clips. Very much better than than those complainers from malaysia who did nothing to promote malaysian culture.
@cemeteryde Aw, well this is a great curry to do if you like spice! at least if you make it for yourself it will remind you of home :) That's always good! enjoy x
leave the girl alone, her curries are superb and most of the people cooking them will not be Malaysian but will be European as we dont have a good knowledge of Malay cooking here ,for years its been mainly Cantonese, Hong Kong or Mandarin styles and thankfully for Immigration we now have a whole raft of styles to choose from, but Caroline is one of my personal favourites, cos she makes everything simple and easy to understand
@carolineartiss Anytime Caroline, i hate haters, what you are doing is really appreciated by people like me, i love cooking but cant cook unless i have easy to follow instruction as i have no cooking background whatsoever, now with your help my family think im a genius in the kitchen, i daren't tell them how...from now on just ignore those jealous negative comments and keep doing things YOUR way for US
@imaiqah Also, please tell your other hater blogger friends, that I will change the name to a Eurasian curry and that I can see how people not in the know might think this is a traditional curry, although I never said it was a traditional Malaysian curry it has upset some people. I will make my video's much clearer to help educate people in the future :) And actually, I'm glad you mentioned all this and I am more than happy to help teach people about all the different types of favorite cuisine
@imaiqah Also, dont think this is the only Malaysian curry I do?? I have just done a video for a traditional Nyonya curry which is going up soon? It's so sad that there are haters out there? I do not get paid to do these videos on here, I take my time and effort to do these.
@imaiqah look, I'm totally up for criticism dude, said in the right way is all good -but you were quite nasty about it? and I appreciate that I didn't make it clear that this is more a Eurasian curry than traditional Malaysian and I will change the title of this recipe as a consequence, that's totally fine. I think people should know about every type of curry out there and that is all I am trying to do.
@one6695 yes and I am Malaysian too and this is a Eurasian style of Malaysian curry?! Gosh why does everyone seem to think there is only one type of Malaysian curry from Malaysia???? So much education is needed!!!
hi...i'm from malaysia. curry is one of malaysian favourite dishes. the dish looks delicious. however, i don't think that is how we make curry in Malaysia. we normally use the curry powder, and we also put some star anise, dried coriander, curry leaves, and sometimes we also add some coconut milk. we also dont put any vinegar. and the methods are also slightly different too.
but your version of malaysian curry looks nice. maybe i should to try some time:)

@aidira84 Hello, Like I said in the video this is a slightly different more Eurasian style of Malaysian Curry. Really delicious and yes give it a go sometime! There are so many types of curry in Malaysia due to the fusion of so many cultures, I think more needs to be done to educate people about the diversity of wonderful Malaysian food.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT WHAT U CALLED MALAYSIAN CHICKEN CURRY, ASK ANY MALAYSIAN WHO DOES COOK, NO ONE WOULD SAY THIS IS HOW U MADE MALAYSIAN CHICKEN CURRY. THE NAME OF THE COOKING WITH THE WAY IT'S BEEN PREPARED JUST DONT DO ANY JUSTICE TO THE AUTHENTIC MALAYSIAN CHICKEN CURRY. SO PLEASE CHOOSE ANY OTHER NAME!!!!
@imaiqah no I will not call it any other name. Malaysian cuisine is made up from so many different influences and flavours - This is a Eurasian Malaysian curry wit influences from India and Malaysia - There isn't just one type of curry in Malaysia and coming from a Malaysian I'd of thought you'd of known that??
@carolineartiss i follow your recipes to the word ,but being a spoilt kid ive grown up into a spoilt adult (i have 6 older sisters, thats why), and i don't think i get it just quite right compared to my friends food, and i wont dare try and cook the Lakhsa
@leoisillon06 Hi there, thanks for the comment and yes you can use other meats with this and shrimps would be lovely, obviously reduce the cooking time if using any seafood or fish. Let me know what it's like when you try it x
