He was talking about Roosevelt's efforts to get the economy back on track by exhibiting strong leadership. Roosevelt did speak in front of cameras but just a few years later.

Televisions weren't commercially available until the late 1930s and even by 1942 there were only about 5000 total sets in operation.

The new deal was nothing more than higher excise taxes on the middle class and the poor, and anti-business socialist regulation. WWII did NOT end the depression. With the country at war, the socialist regulations were removed because they impeded war production. That's when we became the arsenal of democracy.

Actually, the true crash of the stock market was in 1932, not 29....look it up. The market was actually 5 times lower in 1932 than it was in 1929. So it is very possible that Biden was right....Roosevelt went on television in early 33, to discuss the stock market crash. Also, the great depression lasted for an entire decade, with the early to mid 30's being the worst period.
He wasn't talking about the Great Depression, he was talking about the market crashing, which occured in 1929. The economy worsened after Black Tuesday, due to several factors, including a lack of confidence by the public. FDR may have gone on the NEWS REELS in 1933, but the first time he appeared on television was 1939, which makes Biden's comment all the more hilarious.

Here's the difference between Palin & Biden: Sarah Palin was portrayed as the kooky Alaskan that John McCain had picked to be his running mate. So you more or less expected her to make the mistakes she made. On the other hand, Biden (& Obama for that matter) was presented to us as being a sophisticated, well-educated liberal who was going to save us all from ourselves. Actually, the true crash of the stock market was in 1932, not 29....look it up. The market was actually 5 times lower in 1932 than it was in 1929. So it is very possible that Biden was right....Roosevelt went on television in early 33, to discuss the stock market crash. Also, the great depression lasted for an entire decade, with the early to mid 30's being the worst period.

The economy worsened after Black Tuesday, due to several factors, including a lack of confidence by the public. FDR may have gone on the NEWS REELS in 1933, but the first time he appeared on television was 1939, which makes Biden's comment all the more hilarious.

The only mistake he really made was saying that FDR came on TV. The stock market crash didn't bottom out till 1932, and even if it had, the economy was still in a major depression all throughout the 1930s. So sure, he said that FDR appeared on TV but that was only a minor mistake; all politicians do that.
You should read up on the numerous mistakes Palin, McCain, and Bush have made that are actually legit and you'll see that the O'bama-Biden ticket is best.

There's no reason to believe he was actually trying to say that Roosevelt was president at the time. He easily could have been saying that Roosevelt was straightforward in talking about the stock market crash in retrospect.

The stock market crash began in '29, but didn't bottom out until July of '32, which would have been while FDR was a well-known candidate and front-runner for the Presidency. Biden does sometimes mispeak, and I'm sure saying that FDR was on TV at that point was just a mistake. But, this mistake doesn't match the non-knowledge about every major issue that Palin has shown. Biden will make her look like the fool she is in the debate.
