DVD suffers from compression this results in Arifacts these wreck the image on some films and tv programs Father ted & STNG is a great example it does not work well at all on a BD player. BD does not have this problem because it's encoded at 1080p in the first place. yes you can re-encode but it's not 100% perfect yet

A few years down the line from now, CD's will be the thing of the past, the format will be moving to more like crystals similar to Superman The Movie. The information will be electro-magentic placed in the crystals. One problem though, because of the money now being pumped into Blu-Ray the crystals will not be common place for a quite a while.
There is also a 400GB blu-ray disc and a 800GB blu-ray disc on the way, so that is 2K (the next format) wrapped up by blu-ray before it is out.
But replacing our collections is not that bad, we have had to do it since VHS which means business as usual... ok it is bad but short of not replacing our collections there is nothing we can do to stop capitalism lol...
BluRay actualy kicks DVD's ass! I watched miss march on bluray, At first I saw no diffrence cuz I was used to DVD. I watched a DVD verson on here and there was a diffrence, the quality is clearer and the sound is ALOT better on bluray. And bluray lasts longer too. When I watch DVD for the second or 3rd time. For those who say that downloads will take over they are dead wrong. They did a blind test. It was a 720p Itunes movie VS a Blu-Ray movie. Both TV's had the exact same brand. Blue ray uses i think its a gamma ray (hence the blue colour). The quality of a film is all down do the sampling rate. The higher the sampling rate the better the quality. Gamma rays have a higher frequency which means that they can sample the waves (sound and light waves) much more frequently. This improves the quality a hell of a lot. :) By the way, sampling is recording the wave status at various intervals.

If it does, then I will be surprised. It's not much of an upgrade besides the picture and sound. When we got dvd, it was a much bigger upgrad than vhs. dvd had much more features than the vhs. where as blu ray its only a few from dvd. Hardly anyone buys cds anymore because of downloads. I think downloading will be better for movies too.

Buy a Blue Ray if you like root kits in your computer and overly abusive DRM protection.,

Blue ray uses i think its a gamma ray (hence the blue colour). The quality of a film is all down do the sampling rate. The higher the sampling rate the better the quality. Gamma rays have a higher frequency which means that they can sample the waves (sound and light waves) much more frequently. This improves the quality a hell of a lot. :) By the way, sampling is recording the wave status at various intervals.
